Breakfast: old-fashioned oatmeal with a handful of raisins; a banana sometimes, too. Lunch and dinner: a full plate with an animal protein, lots of veggies, some starchy thing, like potatoes, bread, noodles, etc. Between meals, I like a cup of de-caf coffee with a little milk in it. Cantab : could y...

Tuesday dinner: meatloaf (1 pound ground turkey, 1/2 cups dry bread crumbs, 1 egg, 1 Tbs. tomato paste or ketchup; mix and bake at 350 F. for about an hour), cauliflower; dinner rolls with real butter. I measured out the contents of a little can of tomato paste as tablespoon blobs. Put them on a coo...

Hi, and welcome to No-S! We're a nice bunch of folks here. Most of us have been through many different diets, lost weight, gained it back, etc. So you have found a good home with us. Hope to see you on the board often!

Saturday: Not too hungry when dinnertime rolled around. Husband was eating leftovers, trying to clear out the fridge before the beginning of a new week and I made myself a really nice grilled cheese sandwich: 12-grain bread spread with real butter, with sliced Colby-Jack cheese inside. Peas on the p...

It sounds like you're going through a typical phase. My two cents is that you should stick to vanilla No-S: let N days be N days and S days be S days. If you are not happy with the specific choices you make on your S days, then think about it and make some changes. Don't dwell on guilt; try to learn...

Today I did my weekly grocery shopping and I decided to incorporate as many of Michael Pollan's "Food Rules" as possible. Switched to real butter from margarine. Bought organic chicken broth instead of the Swanson stuff. The rest was fresh meat, frozen vegetables, real cheese, whole wheat pasta, and...

Kind of a plain dinner tonight: spaghetti mixed with olive oil, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning. Green peas on the side. I'd make garlic toast, but we're out of butter. Also out of bread. Guess that covers it.

Chicken & Noodles

Cook some noodles. Get some diced cooked chicken. Layer noodles and chicken in a sprayed casserole. Top each layer with some chicken gravy. Top the whole thing with buttered breadcrumbs. Bake uncovered at 350 F for 30 min. Add a veggie or two to the plate. Dinner!

I drink juice. Sometimes a cup of decaf coffee with cream helps, too. You could have a glass of milk.

Also, make sure you are eating a stick-to-your-ribs lunch. If it's too light, you won't make it until dinner.

Oh yes! Not your typical cinnamon roll-in-a-bowl. This was more like a bread custard, very subtle flavors, very rich and smooth, sweet enough to satisfy without excess. Perfect!

Minnesota weather has been about two days ahead of Michigan weather, so I know what you're talking about. But the days are getting longer now, hopefully the "arctic blast" is coming to an end, and the holidays are behind us, so it should be easier to get back on track. Don't dwell on past failures, ...

Cream of Something Soup shouldn't be too hard to make up -- just a medium white sauce with mushrooms/diced chicken/asparagus/whatever. A little garlic, a little onion. Maybe just saute in butter first, then add the thickened milk. I don't do a roux; just shake the milk and flour in a jar until all t...

Wosnes, I agree that there should be a 'rule' about not demonizing entire food groups, although he gets into that a little in the introduction, talking about traditional diets from other cultures. I am reading through the book over and over and trying to do what he says, because what he says is very...
