Still waiting for a "normal" time without unusual, special things going on. Latest: I've got a medical procedure Monday, one that means no solid food tomorrow (Sunday) in preparation. In addition to getting cheated out of one of my two S days this weekend, I'm somewhat freaking out about the whole t...

Another thought about the scale, as I resist the temptation to just pop on and look right before I have a late breakfast: Seeking the reward of losing weight while eating properly becomes a problem for me when trying to maintain. Because the excitement of watching the number go down is over. Yes, ma...

Hi Jen! I've been lurking on your thread ever since I saw this I used to tell people that I was researching to write a how-to guide, "How to stay slightly fat despite exercise". and wanted to say hi :) I could write a companion book "How to not lose an ounce despite daily exercise". I did two "60-da...

Exactly, ladybird! There was nothing "unhealthy" about what I ate - the chicken salad mayo was canola-based. And my body felt good after eating, which it doesn't when I'm putting crap into it. Yet somehow I've been previously brainwashed that if I'm eating anything besides a salad with lean protein ...

Fat and fiber seemed to help. Had a chicken salad sandwich on whole wheat baguette. Felt very strange to have that much bread and mayo while trying to lose weight. Actually, at all. Formerly "bad" foods. Or at least not "good" foods. But I wasn't hungry this afternoon for a change. I'm finishing up ...

Hunger

Really hungry again today between meals. Not sure what’s up with that. I’m going to try to add more fiber and fats to my lunch to see if that helps. It was very difficult not to step on the scale today. I wanted validation that what I’m doing is “working.†That’s exactly what I shouldn’...

Yes, oolala53, it definitely is!!

And I just love the idea of eating for pleasure instead of following a whole bunch of punitive rules. I have to admit that not snacking does make me appreciate meals more. And eating sweets as an occasional treat makes me appreciate them more, too.

Lunch in Paris (but no snacks) by Elizabeth Bard

I vaguely remembered Elizabeth Bard writing about the French way of eating in "Lunch in Paris: A Love Story, With Recipes", a story about her marriage to a French man and adjusting to life in France. So I went to look it up, and there's a lot like No S in there! Here, she is observing her trim, eleg...

Back on N days

Saturday - S day. Sunday - S day. Monday - S day Memorial Day and my birthday Tuesday - ended up an S Day for my birthday because I had leftover cake for dessert. Two pieces. Fortunately, I put the rest of the cake in the freezer, if I want it on some other S day. I feel a lot better when I'm eating...

4 days: travel, a wedding, my birthday, a holiday. Eek.

It was a tough few days, healthy eating wise. We went away to travel to a family wedding. Did some sightseeing. Ate out every meal. Then a rehearsal dinner. Then a wedding with an amazing amount of food. Then Memorial Day and my birthday (a big one, year ending in zero.) Eek. I tried not to “be an...

Things I've Learned So Far in Week One

I can really pile food onto a plate! Reinhard is correct: There is such a thing as good shame, and it works. This morning, I was packing cereal to the top of my bowl when I looked at it and thought, "This is ridiculous." And I took several handfuls back out. Except when I was weighing and tracking a...

Sorry you are having a bad time with this. If you think this is emotional eating, you might want to look at Reinhard's advice in the book: "Your most important countermeasure is to recognize the self-destructive element of emotional eating. This is bad stuff. Take it seriously. . . . You're not bein...

Tuesday: SUCCESS . No snacks, no sweets, no seconds. I did pile a lot of food on my plate at dinner time :) but to be fair, most of the piling was of salad and grapes for dessert. Disappointment

I know I'm not supposed to be obsessing about the scale, weighing daily, or expecting immediate rapid results. Exercise!

One vote for exercise :) I am a very enthusiastic fan of exercise. I agree that it's not a big reason you lose weight, but it's so important for overall good health. And isn't that a major reason why we don't want to be overweight? I also find that when I'm exercising regularly, I'm less likely to w...

Starting today: Question about tea

Hi all. My doctor recommended I check out No S, and as I was reading last night, I realized HOLY COW I DO A LOT OF SNACKING.
