Thanks Ida! Who knows what the weather will be like - there might even be snow in some of the mountainous areas! But as for No-S, it really shouldn't be that difficult... in fact I started No-S on a road trip on a Monday, all I have to do is resist buying snacks at gas stations. But I do think on th...

Navin's sort-of-daily check-in
I doubt I'll update this daily... especially the next couple weeks while I'm on a road-trip vacation and only have sporadic access (at best) to e-mail. I guess I've ben doing this for about X00 days, so I'll count this as Day X01. It was near flawless. I did have one chocolate covered macadamia nut....

Yes, having good infrastructure (bike lanes, wide streets, etc.) definitely helps make it easier to cycle. My city is slowly improving... even the "narrow" road I live on is wide enough so that cars can pass me safely when I'm biking on the side (cars yes, but not trucks and SUVs... :? ) As for the ...

Biking
Wow... 10 miles of cycling a day? I wish I could do that! (I do try to cycle to work when I can, but I live pretty close so it's a round trip of about 3-4 miles.) With that kind of exercise I think you'll get off to a good start...

Not to fear
I wouldn't worry about going overboard on S-days that much. Heck, I do all the time, and I'm sitll not doing that badly... (down 21 lbs since a year and a half ago. I've plateu-ed a little, but that's because they took away my fun Friday group cycling class at the gym... :x ) But seriously, think th...

Maple syrup
Go for the maple syrup... your breakfast already sounds much more reasonable than mine was... a strawberry smoothie, donut, and some chocolate-covered mints. I probably take S days to more of an extreme than anyone here, and I'm still doing pretty well with this whole thing. Granted, not as well as ...

Yeah, you guys are right about not being able to find undernourished people in the US. Heck, I volunteer at a food-bank-like thing where we hand out food to the underprivilaged, and even they seem to get nutrition. They may have other problems, but they aren't coming in with nutrition-related proble...

Beware the fructose
Definitely take a look at the label. Stuff that is 100% fruit juice is best... though even its calories can add up if you drink too much. And make sure it says "Juice". If it says "Drink", it's probably pretty much sugar water. Also, if you see "High Fructose Corn Syrup" as one of the ingredients, s...

Walkin'
I second (or third? Or fourth?) the vote to walk during lunch. I frequently walk to do errands - at my job there are several buildings, and if I need to go to another building I'll walk it. Also the bank is a few blocks away, I'll walk that, too. Those short (1 mile or less) walks are the easiest - ...

Hay fever, allergies, etc.
Hey - I tend to get allergies and weird sinus stuf happening to me from time to time. Not extremely frequently, but it happens. I tend to just tough it out without any medications unless I'm just completely debilitated. A seocnd (or third?) vote for more fluids, that helps. As for eating, I've found...

Why NOS is great
The maintenance takes care of itself. THe diet is the SAME for losing weight as it is for maintaining. That's why so many other diets fail... you can't bear to stay on them forever, and their maintenance plans, if they exist at all, ar pretty much an afterthought... or are not much less difficult to...

Some of that is good
... although I have to disagree with the one that says, put "Ask for photo ID" on the back of your credit cards. This will hardly ever work... 99 times out of 100, you either swipe the card yourself (and no cashier looks at it), or the cashier doesn't check the signature anyway. The places that *do*...

Money money money money...
Well, I don't have any comprehensive system, but I've at least made a dent in the problem of eating out too much. Learning to cook was the first big step... the red and white checkerd Better Homes and Gardens cookbook is great for that - even a dummy like me can make most of those recipes! And it's ...
