Low carb under the following guises: Atkins; Protein Power; Blood Type Diet; and Paleo. They all worked beautifully in the diet phase but fell apart in maintenance (or maybe it was I that fell apart!) Eventually, after a few times through, they became slow to work in the diet phase, too. That effort...

Friday morning weigh-in: I have lost another 0.5, for a total of 8 lbs. in 28 days. I had some pretty sketchy meals this week (OMG, ramen!??) due to a crazy schedule. Interesting: at this time last week I knew exactly what treats I was going to have over the weekend. Today, I am not fussed about it....

I DON'T know when I am full, Annie -- you are not alone! an hour later, I know that I am overfull, but my shut-off mechanism is broken. Luckily, since starting No-S, I have only had that overfull feeling once -- there were potatoes involved. I think the one-plate limit is a kind of protection. Sorry...

Imogen, that's good advice for S days -- and if I am leaving room for dessert, it's an automatic limit on the main course, too! I am learning that if I eat correctly at mealtimes, the lack of snacks doesn't seem so important. Annie, isn't it amazing how successful low carb was? -- and how unforgivin...

Oh Christine -- so much wisdom on this thread! I hope you can make your stubbornness work for you! not with more discipline (that will only make you want to rebel eventually), but by cultivating a sense of fabulously stubborn entitlement -- You deserve to do what makes you happy. The world is full o...

Love that list, finallyfull! Last night I had to help host a reception with homemade cookies -- "sanctimoniously judging other snackers" came into play! These receptions occur several times a month, so I have to build up a list of strategies. BTW, I also told my young nephew, who was making heavy in...

I do get hungry between meals -- but it doesn't last. I just observe it, rather than feeling I need to do something about it. Coffee or tea help. So does distracting myself with a non-food interest. I also try to taper off from S-days -- Saturdays, I just have what I want, but Sunday evening is pret...

Here's the plan I have been following: Breakfast: 2 eggs and either mushrooms, veg omelet, or slice of bacon Lunch: lots of braised or raw seasonal veg, mushrooms, onion, with 3-4 oz either skinless chicken breast, tuna, tilapia, etc., occasional wholegrain roll, fruit in season. Dinner: lots of sea...

Your meals really do sound lovely, Annie! I can only dream of some of those items here in rural PA. Don't fall into the frustration trap -- you are so close to your goal in terms of weight, and also in terms of sane, healthy eating. I am still going out looking for the cake, I am afraid! I am new to this, so I am sure more experienced no-S-ers will provide some wisdom -- but one thing came to mind while I was reading: You can up calories in a lot of delicious, non-dessert ways if you don't want to lose more weight: cheese gratin, extra bread, heavy cream to finish your soup, I could...

sentbox vs outbox?
I am trying to reply to a private message: I wrote my reply and it is sitting in my outbox. How do I send it? Will it appear in my sentbox when it is read? Or do I have to do something?
Sorry if this is obvious! I am new to message boards . . .

good rule of thumb, wosnes! I do cook almost everything from scratch -- have even been known to do chocolate bark from cocoa powder rather than keep candy in the house -- but if I am going for portion control, even a half recipe of most baked desserts is too much right now. Not to mention heating up...

This was my first S-weekend, too -- I had two little pieces of pie and a pint of Ben & Jerry's, spread out over the two days and only after healthy meals. Kind of a splurge -- but it wasn't half a gallon or half a pie . . . I feel completely rewarded and content! Next week I might leave out the pie ...

yes, oolala -- I was only mildly overweight when I started, did low carb a total of three times, lost a lot of weight (anywhere from 30 - 60 lbs) and each time gained back more the minute I started eating carbs. It's a trap because it seems like it is effective -- until it isn't! I am looking for a ...

Evening Snacker
I was fine all week, even though I had my worst snacking times in the evening but last night I had bought two little single-serving pieces of pie for S days -- and they preyed on my mind, even after I got into bed.
