Keep us posted on the job possibility. A tough call if you like your current job, but it's nice to be wanted & in a position of strength.

Had a moment of feeling angry with my beloved and wonderful family yesterday. Before the movie we stopped to visit my 85 year old MIL, two French boys in tow. Then we went to the new Luc Besson movie. And even though I had just served lunch, my husband gave my kids money for popcorn which his mom ha...

I'm so sorry you're feeling so awful. It sounds like there are a lot of sad family revelations going on. And you sound frustrated about your weight. But you probably know your worth is not your weight, right? Hope you are able to get through this valley quickly and just drive on.

So, checking in-- * We've had a French exchange student for the last couple of weeks. Interesting and a little dismaying to watch his physique and food habits compared to the American kids. I want a do-over with my kids. (Kidding! I think!) The French kids are mostly slim-- not "average", but rather...

I think this may be more about where you were at the moment than what they were saying--? Does that sound right? In other words, your sister said, "you're beautiful, you look fine," and another suggested a method to lose weight since you were feeling unhappy about your chin. People respond to stimul...

What message should we offer the next generation?

So-- I'm a mom. A 25 year old son and two daughters, 21 and 15. I was commenting on some health aspect of some lunch item and I caught my daughters rolling their eyes at each other. I'm guessing it was because mom was gassing on about the nutritive/weight control properties of food, and they were fi...

Seconding Oolala here. There is some emerging research that fewer meals may be better for diabetes/blood sugar control. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/05/140515184424.htm It has to work "in vivo," so you are the best judge of your own physiology, but I wouldn't be scared off by fewer mea...

Goodness, a month. I was in England/Scotland for two weeks (awesome), followed by stomach flu (not awesome), and now I am deep in summer activities, which include a lot more moving around in various ways so that's all good. I lost 5 pounds thanks to hiking/stomach flu, to BMI 30.6. So now I need to ...

I get really hungry sometimes, although (interestingly) it will go away some times, so you could argue it's not "real," to which I would argue back: sure feels real. I drink coffee with creamers in it. I've done fruit juice and seltzer.

I lost about 20-25 lb in my early forties and I didn't have any issues. But I lost it slowly and did quite a bit of weight training. I think Whosonfirst is right that age is a factor-- isn't it always? I remind myself it is a privilege to grow older that not everyone gets to share.

Lilybug, I think those urges to eat have a lot to do with insulin release. Your body is expecting food and reacts accordingly, and that leaves you with that miserable I'm munchy-but-not-hungry feeling. The regular meals do seem to help with that.

Oolala, it is kinda unhappy making if you let it be. I was able to lose 20 lbs about 7 years ago eating "clean" six days a week and working out pretty faithfully, calories probably similar to what I'm doing now (1700-1800 ish). I'm not really interested in eating less than that. I'd rather be fat. I...
