I'm brand new (3 days now) to shovelgloving and so far I think it's going well (except my husband wants to know what I did to his sledgehammer, hee hee!); but this move is the one that I seem to be having some difficulty with. In order to keep the hammer from banging into me, I feel like I have to literally bend over backwards. Am I doing something wrong? I have watched the video trying to be sure I'm getting the right technique, and I seem to be doing it correctly, but it looks like I should not have to bend back like I do. Will it get better as I get stronger?

I am 52 and not in horrible shape, but definitely not as fit as I'd like to be. My shovelglove weighs 7 pounds - I think. (I'm staying off the scales until Sunday...)

Two tips:

1) do the move two-handed for a while until you feel more comfortable with it.

2) keep your upper arm as vertical as possible throughout the exercise so you don't have to mess up your posture.

Thanks for the tips, David! I've already done my routine today, but will pay closer attention to my upper arm position tomorrow. I thought about the two-handed thing, but, you know how it is with a perfectionist! Just didn't want to have to go that route... Already it seemed a little better today than last week though.
