Reaping The Wheat with VIDEO

Here you'll find a discussion thread for each of the canonical and major non-canonical shovelglove moves. If you have questions or comments about any of these moves, just update the existing discussion for it. If you have a new move, add a new discussion (preferably with the name of your new move in the title). Ideally there will be just one discussion thread per move that everyone adds to, but it's no tragedy if a little bit of redundancy creeps in.

Reaping The Wheat with VIDEO

Post by phayze » Sat May 17, 2008 11:09 pm

EDIT: I changed the name as suggested by some Youtube commenters. I like to be accurate, even if the new name is less aesthetically pleasing.

I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner!

Imagine that your SG is a scythe and do like these fine Ukranian Gents!

It's similar in practical terms to "sweep the floor", but I think the grip and range of motion is a bit more natural.

Ganbate!

I love the idea of this move (big Tolstoy fan), but I haven't been satisfied with the mechanics in previous attempts. I think the sledge just isn't long enough for the necessary verisimilitude. Have you been doing it regularly? Maybe I'll give it another go... Thanks for the clip! That'll be helpful.

About as regularly as I use any move, I guess, but it gets its share of attention. I agree that a longer handle would be better (maybe a macebell), but I think it's effective enough for high-rep schemes with a normal hammer. It seems to help with the ROM to use the arms as well, and not just use the core for the twisting motion. It's hard describe, but it seems from the threshing vids that it's really a whole-body sort of move.

Now with Video!!

Enjoy!

PS: Sorry it took so long to get this up. I've had it recorded for a while now, and even had a lovely edit with amusing subtitled commentary, but iMovie decided that it didn't want to play nice anymore and ate it. Now I'm using an older version, which isn't as kind to me. :(

Please -- don't apologize. I think you've posted more videos than I have now. Certainly more in terms of total length.

Thank you!

Just added a link to this from the main movements page.

Bah! If it weren't for your vids, then mine wouldn't even exist so all the credit goes to you.
