Beginner's routine...

Which movements do you do? How many reps? In what order? When? Do you mix in other non-shovelglove moves? Post here or browse to get ideas.

Beginner's routine...

So, I decided to plunge in, using an 8lb hammer (because we had it)...

Current routine:

Shovel 10/side
Churn butter 10/hand
Chop wood 10/side
Hoist sack 10/hand (but I do them two-handed, like churn butter)
Flip level 10/side

Repeat until 15 minute timer goes off. Right now, that's between 3-4 rounds.

Did it Sunday and Tuesday, with Pilates on Monday. For now, SG is an every-other-day activity for me.

That will work for a while, then I'll explore some of the other routines for variations.

Still doing SG, usually M-W-F.

Current routine:

Shovel 15/side (up from 10)
Churn butter 10/hand (with the "twist")
Chop wood 15/side (up from 10)
Hoist sack 10/hand (but I do them two-handed, like churn butter)
Flip lever 10/side

I usually get in 3 full rounds, with a little time left over that I use to play with other moves.

Haven't been doing SG for a while - had exercise classes, and that's my preferred exercise.

However, they're over. So it's time to get back into "15 minutes of something." (Maybe SG, maybe something else.)

Picking back up...

Good luck getting back into it! Seasonal shovelglove... that might be a useful concept.

As you've said so often, the HABIT is much more important than the actual activity. I rather wish you'd made SG a sub-category under something like "14 minutes of intense movement" or the like. (There's got to be a clever overall name.)

And yes, I do it "seasonally" - it's the exercise version of an "intelligent dietary default." I like classes, and they normally fit into my routine well... I just have to re-create a routine when they're not available.

But knowing that is good. :)
