Military Body Weight Index

Post by Over43 » Mon Aug 18, 2014 10:16 pm

This was posted on the Dave Draper website earlier today. Much more reasonable, I believe than the insurance indexes/bmi.

Interesting! Going by this, I only need to lose 13 more pounds to get to the top of the acceptable range. :D

The military here makes no special conditions until your BMI hits 30, rather than 25. Up to BMI 33 they only require a check of body fat percentage. However, they do require candidates achieve minimum fitness test results (beep test levels, push ups, sit ups, etc).

I should have called it the "normal" range. There's plenty of conflicting evidence about whether or not being overweight is a health risk or not. Last night's episode of 60 minutes had a doctor who has been studying longevity. Data so far shows that the elderly who gain a little weight live longer, though the study participants (90 or older) were not obese.
