Can't Fail on an S-Day Weekend

Post by NoelFigart » Sun Dec 20, 2015 11:15 pm

This is not one of my more moderate S-days. I posted about a weekend I really liked a few weeks ago. I want to post about one that is leaving me dissatisfied.

There was this tin of cookies my husband and I bought. You know, the Danish Butter cookies? I'd seen this meme going around the Internet. Were there cookies in that tin or sewing supplies. It was so funny because that was totally a part of my childhood. I'd joked with my husband if we saw a tin of them, I was going to get them.

We went to a lot of stores shopping for other things (weekend before Christmas and all) and we did run across them. I bought the small tin, which is still a lot of cookies.

Between my husband and I, we've polished that tin off, as well as some candy he brought home.

No, I feel neither guilty nor freaked out. It was a weekend, so I can't fail. I didn't eat enough to feel physically ill, so that's okay, too..

But it's not what I like best on an S-Day.

Why is this not the S-days I like best?

1. I didn't eat three proper meals a day.

I do best when I stick to that. What with one thing and another, I didn't. I grazed a lot, which really meant grabbing a cookie or two every few hours.

2. I didn't make a specific plan for S treats

I mean, fair enough, I'd been talking about the cookies we had for a week or two. And that's okay. But I didn't plan for it and make it special and serve it on a nice plate after a meal or something.

Am I upset with myself? No. I know I do best when I have a plan. I didn't. It's an S-day and I can't fail.

But I think I am going to make a reminder to myself to plan better. I like planning a treat and looking forward to it better.

I love how the ads at the bottom of the page are all for Danish cookies!

I find I feel better on S days if I eat 3 meals and don't over-indulge too. Cookies are a definite weakness for me, and I'll have them in the house soon. I hadn't thought about serving them on a nice plate or having a plan.

There are people (I am one, and Our Founder is another) who do think that if you're going to have a treat, make it a good one. Reinhard talks about going out to have a gourmet cone or something when you're going to have a treat to make it truly special. He's quite right.

Serve the ice cream in a pretty cut glass bowl if you have one, put the cookies on a nice plate and have a cup or coffee or tea with the good china while you're at it.

Obviously, I don't always do it, but honestly, I oughta. My S-days are much nicer when I plan for the gourmet cupcakes and such.

Just commiserating because I had a not-so-great S day today. I was doing pretty well over Christmas, but ate way too much junk today.

My favorite S days are ones where I still have regular meals, maybe a snack, and a cup or two of cappuccino or a specialty coffee.

Today was not constant permasnacking, but closer to it than I've been since starting NoS so far! I'm looking forward to N days this week...

It happens, Merry! Just get back in the swing of things, and don't be fooled by any urges to deviate, if they crop up.

I saw that meme ! Those Danish cookies are a wonderful childhood memory. Ah, the ads. I used to get mad at the my fitness pal website because for a long time there was an ad for dairy queen that showed a double cheeseburger , fries, glass of coke, and a hot fudge sundae. I was like, really!? Staring at that while logging my salad and how many almonds I ate that day just made me hangry.

Yeah, it's a concept that's pushed by Snickers, for what it's worth...

I mean, sure, our mood is often driven by our physical state, and few people can be really chill and zen when we're really hungry. But there is this idea that if we're feeling the least bit of hunger, we're like OUTTA CONTROL.

Maybe if we're three..

This is not to say that the added annoyance of trying to diet in the face of food ads will do a darned thing for our mood, especially at that micro-level of tracking.

Actually hangry has been around for over nine years . Snickers just brought it to the media. But it reinforces the idea that it can't be managed without eating. And to think using such an item to calm a body down!

This is a bit related. I see now that people watching hour upon hour of TV is called bingeing. Seems appropriate.

There's a browser extension called Intently that replaces ads with inspirational pictures. It seems to work best in Chrome.

They let you create your own "vision boards" so I spent a bit of time removing Intently's images from my "vision board" and adding in my own photos. And now I see my own photos where before I used to see ads.

Anyway, if you use Chrome and sign up for Intently, you won't see ads for a double cheeseburger and fries.[/img]
