Potential purchase: Air Fyrer - Worth it?

Post by YeagerMeister » Wed Jul 20, 2016 2:05 pm

My neighbor just bought one of these and they love it. They love to cook unhealthy things in it, but I will use it for low carb creations, like chicken wings minus the skin, for example. I think they look convenient, and I kind of like gadgets, and budget is not a huge concern.

I found this in a google search: https://airfryguy.com/ and it looks like they're kind of close to functionality in a convection oven.

Any other no-s'ers have one? Would I be better off with a convection oven?

I have a convection oven and I use it all the time. It was money well spent.

I have never tried an airfryer. I don't have the bench top space for gadgets.

Thanks! I'm thinking that the convection oven will be more versatile and I'll start looking for one of those. Have any recommended brands?

I have an air fryer and we use it everyday. I put chips and French fries in there out of the packet for my daughter and they cook with nothing added, any fat drops off and no fat is added, neither are they sitting in their own fat. Same with DD's chicken nuggets, fish fingers, etc etc. I dry roast potatoes for Sunday lunch - the list is endless. Totally worth it!

What's the difference between the air fryer and a convection oven? Can they both generate high heat?

I have a conventional oven with a convectional option which I use sometimes. It doesn't seem the same as this air fryer, though. It circulates the air in the oven for even heating, and drops the temperature you chose automatically 25 degrees. It may cook a chicken a little faster, but I never noticed it draining fat from cookies when I bake them on convection sometimes. If I knew it drained the fat from my food, I'd never use it!

I would love one of these! I really enjoy fried foods but rarely make them due to the mess.
