Am I A Failure If I Can Only Follow Two No S Diet Principles?

Post by Aprilsparrow » Wed Jun 05, 2019 10:16 pm

Hi,

I've been trying the No S Diet on and off for five years now. I can get behind and follow with success the no snacks and no sweets part. What I struggle with the most is no seconds. For whatever reason I try to follow the rule and I panic and end up binge eating like a crazy person then I feel like a failure and end up quitting the whole program. I feel like if I don't do it precisely right then I'm a complete failure at the whole thing.

Can I just follow the no sweets and no snacks and if I need a little extra at a meal have some and still be a successful No S champion?

I really want to be successful (in my own way) with the No S Diet. I've been trying for a very long time.

Yes!

If you end a meal and still feel unsatisfied then a bit extra won't hurt. Cut yourself some slack establish the other two habits see where you are as regards your goal then decide re seconds.

Obviously if you eat huge meals where you feel stuffed every meal you won't lose weight but you don't have to tackle everything all at once.

Good luck

I am also a "2 S-er" although I have not yet been a big success story yet and am fairly new, I am maintaining and not gaining. I've added my own 3rd "S" no suffering, which would qualify for your seconds when needed option. I have so far only lost a few, gained a 2 back as my meals have been overall MUCH to large lately. See my check in for more info but I only follow no snacks no seconds, but I don't always have one plate, depending on the type of meal either. I am weird about salad next to my baked potato and my baked potato next to my rare steak LOL...I have lots of dishes to wash

I also just posted about changing meal timing which is helping with overall quantity of food each day, putting meals off until I am truly hungry.

I am a true believer in making a plan that works for YOU, not everyone is Vanilla here although the original has worked for many.

Good Luck!

NoS is just a framework to begin with. There is no "wrong" or "right" way to find the eating pattern that works best for you long-term. I believe that we are all experimenters, moving along our own paths and supporting each other along the way. The more forgiving and "curious" we are about our developing patterns (rather than judgmental or anxious), then the more we can learn about ourselves. The more we learn about ourselves, the more nicely catered to our own strengths our eating pattern will be.

So. Work on your "2 S's". Enjoy them. Throw out the 3rd until you find your next epiphany. :-)

Thank you so much for your kind replies. I feel so much better and relived.

I'm going to put all my effort into the no snacks or sweets for the next six months and see how things go for me. I will post an update on December 13th sharing how it went following just these two rules while also exercising 3-5 times s week for 30-60 minutes.

Huge sigh of relief. :)

I am also relatively new, but I have already found that I can't make it 6 hours between meals without a planned, healthy snack. Beverages don't do it. If I don't have a snack, after about 4 hours I end up white-knuckling it until the next meal. So, I guess you could say that I am also following only 2 of the No S principles. I keep on reading here that each one of us has to find the plan that works for him or her to be successful. My N day looks like this:

6 - moderate breakfast
10 - healthy snack
12 - moderate lunch
3 - healthy snack
6 - moderate dinner
9 - 1/2 healthy snack, if needed.

I have no problem not having seconds or sweets on N days. My meals are pretty modest. My S days look almost like my N days, with the exception of sweets and seconds. I find that this works well. I feel a big sense of relief that the white-knuckle days are over. Comments?

Hi Gabby - Do what you can do. As I often tell people, the most important thing is to find your plan and stick to it. There's no "right or wrong" with a way of eating. It's about what works for us. Everything has trade-offs.

Definitely do what you can to develop good solid habits, if you are getting the results you want keep on doing it. If not review your habits and make changes you are comfortable with slowly one at a time. :)

Let me suggest that you adapt the "no seconds" rule as follows:

Wait 15 minutes before you have seconds.

I've found that pretty helpful. Generally, hunger passes. It sounds like what you are experiencing is anxiety about being hungry. If you can wait, the hunger will pass, but give yourself permission to have more if you want more.

If you are cutting out two of the principles you are probably still reducing your calorie intake.
