Granted I have a lot of weight to lose. And weight loss is always faster at the beginning when you have a lot to lose. As you get closer to goal weight it slows to a snails pace. But it is better than gaining 12 pounds! I have been walking 3 to 6 miles everyday.

That's fantastic!! I have a lot to lose too. I'm a newbie and just learning the ropes. How long does your daily walk last? I don't have more than about 30 minutes a day to devote to exercise.
Keep up the good work!!

Congratulations! That's great!
I have been walking 3 to 6 miles everyday.
I use a pedometer and have a goal of a
minimum of 10,000 steps daily. Now, this isn't only the steps taken during a "walk". This is all steps taken daily. When I was working, this wasn't a problem; I routinely got 12,000-15,000 steps daily (if I got more than 15,000, I knew I'd really been busy at work!). Now it requires more effort to get those steps in. But, it really makes a difference. I just have to make life a lot less convenient to get those steps in.
If you walk 6 miles daily, you're probably exceeding 10,000 steps. If you walk 3 miles, you're probably at 6,000-7,500 steps. And unless you're very active, getting that last 2,500-4,000 is much more difficult than you'd think! You can also go for a weekly average of 70,000 steps instead of 10,000 daily.

Incredible accomplishment! What a way to start the new year. You don't need a new year's resolution. You are already living the dream. Congratulations.
And, just Annie, anything exercise wise you do is better than doing nothing. Reinhard recommends an unusual 14 minutes a day.

It takes me an hour to walk three miles. On weekends I walk 3 miles in the morning (1 hour) and 3 miles in the evening (1 hour) for a total of two hours. I don't mind walking. I hate getting on a machine at the gym and doing exercise. With walking it feels normal, like you have a destination. Now I wish I could get the eating under control some more.

Congratulations! That's fantastic. And it's doubly fantastic because you've attained it though moderate, sustainable means.
