variable schedule/ short and long days

Hello everyone,

I've recently started the no S diet and so far I feel i'm doing pretty well. Although I do have a question.

I work the graveyard shift and my wife works the morning shift, so on my days off I switch to her shift.

This creates a very long day on Saturday for myself as I wake up early with my wife and then go to work and stay up all night. This can make a 20-22 hour day.

Luckily this is an S day, so if I sneak in an extra meal it won't weigh on me too heavily.

My question is what would you guys do if this was a non S day?

Would you try to stretch out the 3 meals or have a 4th meal?

On my long work days, I pick an item from one meal and have it for a snack, then make sure I "deduct" that item from the meal. But my long days aren't nearly as long as yours. Since it's an S-Day anyway, I would probably go ahead and have another meal, at least a light one.

Hi erniep33,

There are three ways to approach this, all with pros and cons

1. tough it out and stick with three meals. Pro: clearly "right" Con: may not be possible.

2. do some virtual plating as described by Jan. Pro: more humane Con: virtual plating can degenerate if you're not careful.

3. just give yourself an approved 4th meal. Pro: even more humane Con: that extra input opportunity is probably going to translate into more calories. That may be an acceptable trade off.

Unless you are the saintly/super heroic type, 2 or 3 are probably what you want to consider. There is no ideal solution here because it's not an ideal situation, but I think it is navigable.
