Hello, my name is Jessica. I've been putting this first post off for a few days so it's time to buckle down and ask some questions. First of all, thank you Reinhard for creating this crafty, catchy system. Today is my third day on the Nosdiet and I already feel better and am lighter. I stand about 5'5.5" at 142 lbs with an athletic build. I joined the diet while browsing for articles and discussion boards of people who gave up sweets.

Your plan is working for me well, as i'm usually eat litearlly all day (I can't possibly be always hungry!?!) I had a problem on the first two days with hunger, though. I am very active, exercising almost every day or more. I also love fruits and vegetables so I tended to fill up a large part of my plate with these low cal foods. This simply did not sustain me. I felt starved on the first day, and at 10:30 PM on the second day, I decided to throw in a fourth meal.

I would like to condone the use of a fourth or fifth meal for all those who are like me: young, active, and healthy eaters. I thought you should know that 3 meals is not enough for people like me. I also read part of the post in which a girl was complaining about the diet's tendency to sound like an eating disorder, and I started to agree with her when I felt so hungry. However, I totally understand your point of view in this plan, and I do believe that 3 meals is a better foundation for most people. It's better mentally and it should work physically, too. I just recommend some sort of more detailed note about the number of meals so that people like me aren't left in the dust. The side joke about having a doctor's note wasn't enough to convince me that I should have 4 meals. (I'm smart enough to do it anyway.) But...it's your plan. This is just a suggestion.

Soory that was so long. i'll keep my next point short and simple. Is it okay to chew sugarless gum in between and after meals, or is that considered a sweet?

If i don't start logging, i'll never do it. I decided that sugar free chewing gum is NOT a good idea, and i'm not going to chew it on N-days. I feel like it makes me crave S foods. So, I answered my own question about that.

today i screwed up.

Two days good, one day bad. i'll be back on the ball tomorrow. I have a book recommendation, but I'll post that in another topic.[/quote]

It takes a lot of tries till it becomes more habitualised.
keep at it and just forgive your little mistakes here and there.
They are part of the process..
No problem about the fourth meal btw.. It's fine. Better than snacking mindlessly..
Eventually you might just end up phasing it out with no problem, just naturally..

Day 4...Which is sort of a day one, since day 3 was a failure. No gum today...I want to shake it out of my system. It's one thing to go without sweets, snacks, or seconds. It's quite another to go without the s's or gum to distract me. Mentally, it's much better for me to start the diet this way. No gum till the S days....maybe i'll use it to pop in my mouth at parties on s days when I really don't particularly feel like eating any more sweets :-)

Schedule (if possible w/ family)
Breakfast 9:00
Lunch Uno 12:15
WORKOUT
Go to work 2:00-6:45
Lunch Dos 3:45
Dinner 7:30

Hello Hungry College Kid.

I think it sounds like you have a good schedule. If you read the "manifesto" on the home page you will see that Reinhard never actually says how many meals you should have. Three seems to be the obvious choice for most of us here. But, as long as you can stick with your schedule of four you will do fine. The main thing is to make this a habit.

Welcome, Jessica!

You can no-s with 4 meals. There is a downside which is that it might take longer to see results, and 3 meals no-s can be slow to begin with. But if it's working for you, great, you can hold your head up high as a proud orthodox no-esser.

As for sugar-free gum, it's not technically forbidden. It might be a help in if it satisfies your snacking/sweets urge non-calorically, but it might also be a hindrance by continuing to stoke these urges when otherwise they might just go away. I personally don't do it on a regular basis. Not out of principle but just because I never found it that appealing.
