Before You Tweak

Post by NoelFigart » Mon Apr 21, 2008 4:10 pm

I find it interesting that there's a lot of desire to look for more rules.

I really think before any tweaking is done, you oughta rack up a strict month on habit just following the basic rules of "No Sweets, No Snacks and No Seconds, except (sometimes) on days beginning with S".

I'm aiming this a lot more at myself than anyone else. You see, I caught myself trying to go for more rules in how and what I eat, then took one look at my HabitCal and said, "Basics, grasshopper. Master the basics first. Until you've got at least 21 days of green or yellow under your belt, leave the other stuff alone!"

Boy, wished I would have read this last week. See "spin, crash and burn" post below. And it was all due to two things - First viewing the weekend as a foodfest and two, trying to make up for it by tweaking and making meals smaller and "diet" instead of wholesome and enjoyable.

Thanks for the great advice!

My only addition would be that for me, Reinhard's "rules" are simply enough and with that nature takes its intuitive organic course. I am a big make my own rules person.

For some reason I decided not to with this. It has worked well for me,

Very good advice, and a good plan.
My problem with this is that I am quite small,
and have a very low calorie budget.
In a month's time I can easily gain over 10 lbs.
I've worked too hard to get into maintenance,
and to stay in maintenance to risk that.

So, I have to keep counting calories in order to make certain
I'm not just using this diet as just one more way to overeat without taking responsibility for it.

Noel
I agree whole heartedly with you.

My first 3 months or so on No S in 2005 were 100% successful and they were vanilla No S.

I then started tweaking and it has taken me 2 years to get back to vanilla No S - and guess what????

It works. The more I tweak the less it works.

The beauty of No S is it does not need further refinement and 'help' from us, and the freedom that you get by not constantly having to second guess yourself and make a million decisions per day.

Try Vanilla No S for at least 3 months before starting to make your own changes.

Wise words ObiWan. Seriously, thank you for sharing that. It means a lot to get all this input.

MerryKat, that is actually really good news if you think about it ... and thank you for sharing your wisdom with us. Forewarned is definitely forearmed.

BTW, do you remember why you started tweaking?
