July challenge...anyone up for it?

Post by MoTappin » Tue Jul 01, 2008 12:40 am

Starting Tuesday, July 1st, I'm going to buckle down (after those silly false start things) and go for NO RED DAYS in JULY. I figure it's a pretty good month to try it, since I've got Independence Day, my birthday, and my son's birthday as non-weekend S days to let me cut loose a little.

I figured if I posted it here, it would make me accountable. Anybody up for doing this with me? I really need to focus on habit forming here.

Free of unconctrolled snacking, I mean (don't want to blow my good record on NoS because I start tweaking). I just don't want to emotionally overeat again on an S day - or to eat way too much just because I can...

Also, I'd like to record 5 days a week of exercise in July. I have my 3-4 days walking down pat, but I'd like to add some shovelglove in on the down days...

Yes, my July goal is to get S-days under control. No red days for S-days, no red days for N-days.

Cool! Always helps to have others along for the ride. How is everyone doing today? So far so good here. It's easier to be strict with this thing than to allow (or make up--LOL) any of those pesky gray areas.

I'm up for the challenge Mo! :D My No Red goal will be for all 3 of my Habitcals...No S, No Scale and MwP (exercise that I call Movement with Purpose). My MwP goal is at least 20 min. of 'other' exercise Monday to Friday...anything extra is great and is tracked on my Habitcal too.
Creating and sustaining the No S habits are the only thing that will take me in the direction I want to go!

Okay, I'm in!.
I've been flirting with those food that are tough to decide and are your call, and I'm getting sneaky about it, heh.
So, the challenge will be plain, obvious green day food and desserts on green days only, see if I can stick to it all month long.

This is such a great idea!

I haven't signed on, only b/c I have a vacation coming up, and haven't decided how to negotiate it yet.

But I'll definitely sign on until I leave (all green/yellow until then), and I'll root for everyone else!

This is just day 1 for me as I didn't see the challenge until last night. Feeling great to be back here.

Going to do a clean July eating wise and exercise at least 4 days a week for an hour. :)

With the "4th" Over

Post by Over43 » Mon Jul 07, 2008 9:59 pm

The 4th of July is a hard weekend for me, so now that it is the 7th I'm "on board". Started this morning. Cooked crack wheat and tomatoe juice (not mixed) for breakfast, and a "fake" brautwurst (my daughter is a vegan, it's what was laying around the house...yuk) and a dish of frozen peaches for lunch.

Hopefully dinner will be a little tastier than lunch.

Well, this week was tough, don't know why, I just hope it's not my own pressure to keep the challenge.
As a result, yesterday was a "whoah, Nellie!" S day; three glazed donuts and two frozen bananas and belly ache by the end of the day.
We'll see how I do this week, if the anxiety of my challenge gets to me by the weekend, I might have to get off the challenge.

Hi all,

I'm still here! I actually had a red day on Thursday (got into "holiday weekend" mode too early). :? But, I'm doing SOOOO much better than I was before July started, that I can't complain much. Since then I"ve been green all the way.

I think I learned a lesson from it too: that when you start eating sweets for no GOOD reason (like it's an S day and you've earned it), you get zero satisfaction from it. Before you eat it you think it'll give you pleasure, but any pleasure you do derive from stuffing it into your mouth disappears the moment you swallow ("oh WHY did I do that?"). And then, since you didn't get from it what you expected, you repeat the behavior and try again (DUH!). It often takes several times of doing this for your brain to get it: there's nothing TREAT about that kind of sweet.

The next time you think about popping something into your mouth on an N day that belongs on an S day, think about what you'll truly get out of it. Nothing. Nothing but regret, that is.

Last night I was at a baby shower. After the games and gifts, there was a BUTT LOAD of treats. Ice cream in waffle bowls, 7 different kinds of baked goods, etc. The kind of stuff I normally go crazy for. And if it had been an S day, I would have had some and not felt bad about it. But because of my learning experience last week, I refrained. I knew I'd get very little pleasure out of it and only end up regretting it. No, I'd rather save the treats so I can SAVOR them on Saturday.

So, S stands for sweets, seconds, and snacks. But it also stands for STUPID (S's on N days) and SAVOR (S's on S days!). I'll take savor over stupid any day!

Newbie here second week of s-diet

Post by Annie4637 » Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:07 am

Hello everyone! :D

I just started the s diet last week after being so frustrated for so long on other ways of eating. After only being on the plan for five days I lost one pound. I'm going to weigh myself every week and I'm hoping the next time I weigh in reflects my progress! I didn't do too well yesterday. I had to go to a meeting in the middle of the morning for work. I had already had breakfast. Everyone else was eating at the meeting so I gave in and ordered a muffin. Other than that I've been doing pretty well. I'm reading the book now and I'm hoping to see results! :o

Have a good day everyone!

aaagh, ghastly S days - both evenings (it's Sun night here now)...totally out of control - nibble nibble nibble; eat eat eat. A bit of a stressful family weekend - visiting rellies, rowing siblings, the whole catastrophe ... hmmmm....Oh well, just keep on trucking and plan for better S days next weekend. On the upside, I snuck out and got in a 1.5 hr walk yesterday - all the way around the golf course and down to the beach and back. Did my soul good. :-)

late to the party

Post by storm fox » Mon Jul 28, 2008 4:16 am

Well, I guess I'm late getting back to the party, but I really have to say that I like this challenge. To clarify, I like the metric of this challenge. It's not, "who can lose the most by starvation and diuretics," or "who can add X pounds to press/pull/squat by the end of the month," it uses habit. Ahh, fantastic. Too late for me to start, but I'd be happy to try a challenge from here through August.
