Poem published in 1897 in the volume "More Beasts for Worse Children" by Hiaire Belloc
The vulture eats between his meals,
And that's the reason why
He very, very rarely feels
As well as you and I.
His eye is dull, his head is bald,
His neck is growing thinner.
Oh! what a lesson for us all
To only eat at dinner!
Other poems in the first volume include such classics as:
"Rebecca Who Slammed Doors For Fun And Perished Miserably"
The Vulture
Moderators: Soprano, automatedeating
This is a great one. Thank you, gionta!
I think someone posted it ages ago -- but it was due for a repost.
The only problem with the poem is snacks have a tendency to make our necks thicker rather than "thinner."
But I can't immediately think of an appropriate rhyme for that... any poets lurking?
Just dug up that old post (2, actually):

(and no, I still haven't gotten around to sticking it on the home page )
