I think that this is just because I am beginning and have so much to loose. I certainly don't think I will keep that up nor would I want to. But it is a great start!
I had listened to some of Michael Pollan's stuff and few ideas resonated with me. The "experts and diet gurus" don't always have the answer and Americans are obessed with food and dieting but struggle with weight more than any other culture. Why is that?
If I try to go low fat I am miserable and there is no joy in eating. If I go too low carb and try to stick to just protein and fat with a few measly salads, I start heading for the brownies.
So this week I followed the S plan. I chose real food for all 3 meals. By real food I mean no processed where there are 10-20 ingredients listed on the side of the box. I made my own salad dressings with olive oil and regular full fat sour cream. I ate fruit a couple times a day with the meals along with vegetables that I could sautee in a pan with a little olive oil or boiling until tender but no over cooking them. I worked from a regular cookbook that I got that serves two, plated the food and put the rest in a container for a frozen dinner at some later point. The favorite recipe was for home made fries which (get this) called for ONE potato. I had one piece of chocolate cake that was a birthday surprise. That was an S day.
I know it is the first week and easy when you start off. Ask me in a couple week how I am doing. I gotta get goin' and download habitcal. I listened to Reinhard's download yesterday and if I have only have a checkmark that's easy to do. I will say that I have not felt hungry or irritable and am actually rather enjoying it. I walked 3 times - just 2 miles to start out with.
Cooking is time consuming but there is also a joy in it. I can give an up episode of Family Guy to make a meal which is probably a better use of my time. The challenge will be what to eat when I cannot cook or I find myself out. I think I would focus on the company and just stick to eating a small plate of what appealed to me - no fretting about it. And also I don't want to be the person that worries about what other people are eating or temptations, etc. Let it be.
What I love about the S plan is that other food preparation I don't think about what I am going to eat, when and what amounts like I used to whenever I attempted to diet. I am thinking more along the lines of enjoying the meals and not stuffing myself.

Well, I think it's because little by little over the last century we've started paying more attention to the "experts" (the food industry, scientists, media and others) instead of going by tradition and culture. We need to go back to what worked -- and No-S is a first step.
