Post by ~reneew » Mon Nov 30, 2009 7:53 pm

* * * I'm issuing a challenge for you to have a "perfect" December * * *

- your personal "perfect" is defined however you wish, but must be written at the beginning of the month.
- *Remember* to only post once on the first page so that we can all get in at the top. This makes it easier to keep tabs on eachother.
- Please re-read that last one, some people don't get it.
- edit your first post all month so we can all keep tabs on eachother.
- after December 3rd we will continue posting at the bottom for encouragement and fun.
- good luck and have fun with it!

Ho Ho Ho!

I'm in! I love red and green this time of year, but my goal is to have absolutely no reds!!! 3 dishes a day is a green.

I may try to "bank" a day for the end of the month when my kids at home. December is my toughest time of year and last year I started my gain of 20, so if I can get through December with no reds, I'll be a very very happy girl!!! I'm not going to count my heart and soul exercises here, but plan on doing them each a minimum of 5 times a week. (They are on my habitcal)

I am ready to go!!!

1 - yea It's going great! I have hope that I'll not gain for once in December!!! If I mention making carmels, remind me to give them away.
2 - yea
3 - yea looooong car ride. I did good!
4 - yea so far, and I'm trying to hold off more baking and making my carmels until the 10th. My kids won't die, right???
5 - S day uncontrolled
6 - S day I was going to bank today, then forgot. Not too bad though.
7 - yea each day in December that's a success is amazing! My sweetheart of a daughter made the cookies today, which saved me ingesting horendous amounts of dough!
8 -yea
9 - ugggghhhh!!! I failed with cookies which are a snack and a sweet... failed with seconds. Didn't exercise... I think I'll quick go to bed to end this day!
10- yea today. I want to continue on and maybe make up for that red by having an N day on Sunday. If I can.
11-yea I did it!
12- S day
13- S day
14- yea
15- yea
16- yea and I'm doing great! Ha! Then I had a binge... the first in a long time. I lost al control. Had the mindset that I blew it, so take advantage of it!   I guess I blew 2 Wednesdays... hard to make it through the week I guess.

There goes my perfect month. I'll try to maintain through the end of the month and I'll be recharged for the new year.

I'm in! My perfect December will look like this:
1: Monday, wednesday and Friday Urban range for minimum 20 minutes above and beyond ranging with my doggie Thor.
2: Tuesday and Thursday heavy duty housecleaning in increments of 20 minutes with a 15 minute break every hour.
3: 24 and 25 December are S days. 26 and 27 December are N days.
4: 31 December and 1 January are S days. 2 and 3 January are N days.

Dec. 1: Green day! Did a lot in the house-it's almost presentable!
Dec. 2: Green day! Urban ranged for 20 mins. Extra Urban ranged for 15 mins. after dinner with Thor. Thor loves No S!
Dec. 3: Green day!
Dec. 4: Green day!
Dec 5&6: S days (weekend) which I forgot all about, so I consider them green days!
Dec 7: Green all the way!
Dec 8: Started to feel really bad in the afternoon. I think I have a bug. Having trouble just keeping water down. A sick day. Will this ruin my perfect December? Don't feel too good today, so my urban ranging will be minimal.
Dec. 9: Slept all day. Got rid of my bug.
Dec 10: Felt so much better. Green all the way!
Dec. 11: Green!!! Am now a member of the 21 Club!!! feels goooooood!!!
Dec. 12&13: S days. Wasn't an idiot, so successes.
Dec. 14: Green!!! DH bought me some chocolate. I was tempted, but thought of ruining my perfect December and thought "nah-not worth it"
Dec. 15: Green!
Dec 16: Green!
Dec 17: Green!
Dec 18: Green!
Dec 19&20: Yellow
Dec 21: Green.
Dec 22: Green! I don't have time to post again before 26 Dec, so pray for me that I'll survive today. Merry Xmas all!!!
Dec 23: Green! very busy with last minute shopping and cleaning.
Dec 24: Xmas Eve at last! So tired from cooking and being a hostess that I wasn't hungry at all. Our fancy china has tiny dinner plates and I couldn't even eat one portion. Dessert-I couldn't even try a tiny bite. So, it was an N day!
Dec 25: Started in the kitchen at 0600. Had 12 guests for turkey dinner.
Was so tired that again I could hardly eat anything. A Green N day!
Dec 26: Thank Goodness I survived! I AM TAKING AN S DAY THIS EVENING AND TOMORROW AND BLAST THE CONSEQUENCES!!!
Dec 27: A tiny S day. Drank 4 beers. had a turkey sandwich for dinner.
A tiny bowl if icecream. It was pure pleasure, but a tiny bowl was enough. A yellow day.
Dec. 28: Green. Day 17 for 21 day club.
Dec 29: Green
Dec 30: Green
Dec 31: Yellow. I did it!!! Day 20. Hey- tomorrow I'm a repeater to the 21 day club!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! :D :D :D

Count me in! I found myself nibbling on some leftover turkey last night because I didn't have to account to anyone.

DECEMBER:
1-success
2-S-Day (annual cross-country banquet) Not too bad. More like an S-event.
3-success
4-success
5-S-Day
6-S-Day
7-success
8-success
9-success
10-success
11-success
12 S-Day Birthday party for granddaughter. Fulfilled all S's.
13-S-DayAll S's in full force
14-success
15-success Almost lost it. Should be against the law to have a Starbucks in a Target.
16-success
17-success
18-FAILURE More than one plate full at dinner. Altho' in the spirit of Christmas, there should be red along with green
19-S-Day
20-S-Day
21-success
22-success
23-success
24-S-Day Wish all my S days were like this one!
25-S-Day A blessed Christmas to all! Isa. 9:6
26-S-Day
27-S-Day
28-success
29-S-Day Almost forgot...a friends visits this time of year and brings her Christmas goodies.
30-success
31-S-Day

Seems like an awful lot of S-days. Don't want the pressure of doing away with any. I'll just have to be careful they aren't "wild."

Alright, I'm in.
Since I hit 40 this year, it seems that my stomach has gotten very picky when it comes to excess and I fear that a typical december excess would be catastrophic, plus, I gain weight every. single. december.
So:

I say no to all Christmas goodies until the week of Christmas, unless it is on the weekends (in moderation). Essentially, I'll treat most of the month of december as what it is, actually: just another month of the year.

It'll be tough, so much baking to enjoy and so many goodies all around us, but, how good I'll feel when Christmas comes and I'm not unconfortable in my pants and I don't have a "sugar tongue" (painful bumps from eating too much sugar) and I'm not dying of indigestion every day and I'm not feeling guilty from eating so much stuff!.

Dec 1 Green
Dec 2 Green
Dec 3 Green
Dec 4 Green
Dec 5 Red
Dec 6 Red
These two days, I mark them red, because I ate way too many Christmas cookies in a rebound of sorts, hmm.

Dec 7 Green
Dec 8 Green
Dec 9 Green
Dec 10 Green
Dec 11 Green
Dec 12 Green
Dec 13 Green

Dec 14 Green
Dec 15 S Day (my husband's birthday)
Dec 16 Green
Dec 17 Green
Dec 18 Green
Dec 19 Green
Dec 20 Green

Dec 21 and onwards I made it!.

I was a bit hesitant about joining this one, because the word "perfect" is an emotional trap for me. But I liked the idea of self-defining it, and identifying what my goals are. And as I thought about it, I realized I had a couple of places where I could have problems if I didn't decide in advance.

My goals for December thus far...all the places to worry about, where I'm not sure what I want to do.

1 - Success
2 - Success
3 - Success
4 - Holiday party here, for work. I decided to treat this (and the one on the 11th) as a "one S-event" occurance. Did it, and liked the approach.

5 S Day
6 S Day

7
8
9
10

11 - Another work party, larger group and probably more elaborate spread. Again, I need to decide how to handle this IN ADVANCE.
12 S Day
13 S Day
- TWO parties, but fortunately already an S-day. :)
14
15
16
17
18

19 S Day
20 S Day

21 First day at home, and a kid party at my house. But I think I can keep it green since I don't plan to feed them sugar all day.
22
23
24

25 S Day Merry Christmas!
26 S Day - Extended family Christmas (and already an S-day!)
27 S Day

28
29
30
31 New Year's Eve
We don't go out - we do a brunch on New Year's day. So... will keep it green, but have a little champagne.
Jan 1 New Year's Day

I really want to keep it to two NWS S-days. If I consider New Year's to fall in January, and have Christmas as one (which I will of course!), that leaves me one to play with. So, I get to pick either the 4th or the 11th. (Or see if I can manage the Friday evening - Sunday noon S-day variant... but that can be iffy for me, I've learned.)

Update:
Decided that I will split my S-day into two S-events on the 4th/11th. It worked well on the 4th.

Glad this thread made me MAKE A DECISION in advance.

In Germany, we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve, not Christmas Day.
So do we in Argentina and the rest of Latin America.

I'm still hanging in here, but it's getting difficult, it's cold (for California) and I miss how jolly my kitchen becomes with all the baking.
On the other hand; I'm feeling so virtuous!.

My mom was half-German, and we always did Christmas Eve growing up. I miss that sometimes. (It was really important to my hubby to do Christmas morning, so we do.) I have wonderful memories of opening gifts late Christmas Eve, though.

Edited my inital thread, to reflect my holiday choices. So "perfect for me" has now been defined. :)

Thanks, ~reneew, for this thread!

I did this for last month's but it didn't work out as I wasn't focused on no-s and another slew of excuses. I'm doing two meals a day, 1 plate. I don't have snacks, sweets, or seconds.

My goals are:
1.) To stick to my plan, which is two meals a day
2.) To get to bed around 12, and wake up around 10 (for now)
3.) To establish habit.

The only day I want to have a sweet on is the holiday (Christmas). Other than that, whatever happens, 1 plate in the morning, and one in the evening will do for me. I guess I will check in at the end of this month and tell how I did with this!

Hi. I hope it is not too late to join this challenge. I have missed the "no-brainer" structure of the No-S plan. I have fallen of the wagon and I will get back on tomorrow. I have great exercise habits that compensate for overeating, however, I have grown tired of eating without having the weekend to look forward to. So, I will join the challenge tomorrow.

Replying to Emily's question: Doing well! I was tempted this afternoon to snack, but overcame the urge by heating up a cup of Apple Cranberry fruit juice and just sipping it warm. Wonderful on a cold dreary Minnesota afternoon. :)

Yeah, I know... but there were apple cookies (many, many), orange chocolate and jelly beans...

As to the "sugar tongue", for some years now on this season only, I develop painful little bumps on my tongue, they hurt when I eat, they get worse if I continue eating sugary stuff, they go away if I eat less sugary stuff; clearly, the sharp increment of sweets in my diet throughout december is to blame.
My doctor told me that they were nothing but swollen, irritated papillary glands and that can happen for different reasons to different people, they are not dangerous, but they are painful and if anything, they ruin my enjoyement of the season.

renew, I forgot to take my S days because DH and I were so busy with pre Xmas planning, cleaning and just general horsing around. When the days were finally done I was just too tired to think about it!

All of us are doing GREAT!! Congrats to us!!!

Has anyone noticed that there just seems to be more time when we're not wasting it by stuffing our faces all the time? I'm amazed by how much I can get done in the evenings now.

Thanks Liz! After my trip-and-face-plant-rug-burn yesterday, I am now driven to give up Sunday as an S and use it as an N to make up for yesterday. I will then re-color my yesterday green. I'd ask permission from all of you, but I wanna anyway. I hope I'm able to do it. I really want to get rid of that red!!!!!
I guess this doesn't work unless you actually do it.
Please pray for me

Noni, thanks for the info. I was so nervous that those blasted sick days would wash me out of the Dec. Challenge.

Keep going you guys!!! I know that December is a tough time (for me anyway), but this is a true test to see if we can get through the season, we will be so much farther ahead for the start of the new year! Each day is a success and it strengthens our resistance! Be strong, tough, and resist. Build your resistence muscle!

Hope it's OK if I join, too. I know it's late, but I'm really new! I'm going to start this for the 10th because it too me a couple of tries to get situated. A perfect month for me will be mostly vanilla No S with small exceptions made for cookies that I baked myself that contain lots of butter and won't be good if I wait for an S day. I'm talking about tasting (<100 cal), though, not inhaling!

11 N Success, even though we ate out.
12 S
13 S ugh...baked and ate a lot of cookies and cookie dough

14 N SUCCESS (small taste of toffee, a forkful of lovely noodles)
15 N SUCCESS (another small taste of buttery baked goods)

16 N WORRIED! May do a church thing tonight and hope to avoid the sweets table. FAILURE But, I did OK at the church thing. I made cupcakes for the church thing and went a little crazy making sure the cupcakes and icing were good enough to share.

Wah!, I forgot to update for a few days, but the reason is that we have decided to take a low profile on the holidays, for the reasons that I lost a family member on october and I really don't feel like celebrating much and also because we always make december a month of celebration, which is nice, but was ultimately burning us off, leaving us wishing it will end soon and over-stuffed and indigested.
So, this one december, we have kept on going as if nothing really changed, only putting up the tree on the 15th and no more decorations, no daily cookie baking, no holiday breads, treats, drinks or snacks.
It sounds a bit sad and spartan, but, the truth is that we feel much more sane than we did on previous years and I don't feel as much cravings as I did before, where I urged myself to eat, eat, eat, "because it is the season".
I truly believe that we will enjoy our quiet Christmas much more than ever, even if there's a bit of sadness in it.
And keeping with the challenge was a breeze, so much, that I complied automatically and forgot to update.

Mavilu...I'm sorry to hear about your loss. It reminds me of the time I lost my father suddenly just before the holidays started. I used to make a table full of desserts for extended relatives, alot of them- desserts and relatives. (I had three small children then and nobody brought anything to help and I was young and embarrassed to ask for help). That Christmas was too painful, so I cancelled it... FOREVER! It was the one positive note that came from that sad time in my life many years ago.

Of course now I have alot of children and grandchildren, extended family members for Christmas dinner yearly. And I have the fever blisters from stress to show for it each year :?

I hope you find the peace that usually gets crowded out this time of year.

Thank you so much, Noni.

My Christmas as a married woman have been easy because my own family is in a separate country and my american family lives far away, so, there's only the two of us and we do whatever we feel like doing, we've had everything from delivery pizza to a five course home-made meal, but I do know that for each family reunion for the holidays, there's always a hostess that undeniably feels the pressure of being a hostess with all that it entails.
I wish it wouldn't have to be so, we should start a tradition where absolutely everyone goes out to eat during the holidays!.

Thank you again~

Wow! Some of you guys did great!!! Notice I said "you".
I've only recently not felt terrible when I "fail" on these challenges. I thought I'd look really stupid failing my own challenges, but then I realized that I'm normal. ha! Besides, if it helps to keep one of us on track, it's well worth my looking stupid.
