Everyone has a vice

My husband and his family have never been tempted with snacks and desserts (as I mentioned on my previous post today). I've always envied how they can look at a table full of sweets and say "no thanks, I'm fine" and actually mean it. They even "forget to eat" during the day. (OK, that's just weird.)
That being said, he has never understood what the big deal is with dieting. "If you need to lose weight, just don't eat as much and cut out all the crap." (He actually is very supportive with this....he just doesn't understand why it's such a struggle.)
I finally got the point across to him
. True, they did have nothing but healthy food around the house growing up, and that played a major role in his habits. But, he also absorbed another habit. As an adult he is patterning after his parents with other things as well....my parents used food----his parents used alcohol. Relaxing after work? Have a drink. Celebrating? Have a drink. Feeling bummed? Have a drink. Stressed? Have a drink.
After pointing that out, he had no comeback (for once) and realized how it would be kind of a bummer to not have his "vice" to reach for whenever he felt like it. (Thankfully, his isn't outta hand, unlike his dad; MAN, I hope he doesn't go there.)
So, whenever I'm feeling low because I am having problems yet again sticking to something healthy, I remember that everyone has a vice. This just happens to be mine.
