A ridiculous weight-loss strategy

Post by marygrace » Fri Mar 11, 2011 4:38 pm

From this article .

For $1,000/month some women are purchasing hGC, a pregnancy hormone derived from the urine of pregnant women, and injecting themselves with it daily. In addition to the hormone injections, these women are limiting their caloric intake to 500 calories per day in order to shed pounds. But some doctors say the weight-loss method is ineffective and even dangerous.

Probably one of the most absurd things I've ever heard. It boggles my mind that people would go to such huge, insane lengths to lose weight when all they have to do is eat a little less and exercise. WOW.

A lady I'm friendly with is on this diet. She says she's lost like 35 pounds already and she's three weeks in and she's sure this has changed her life and how she views her body forever. I have some major doubts about maintaining weight lost on this plan because it's so extreme but I guess that's something she'll have to determine for herself. It's very expensive too so I have no idea how it could work for her in the long term.

For the love of Anoia and all her ladles, of COURSE you'll lose weight quite quickly if you limit your food to 500 calories a day. The hormone has bugger-all to do with it!

Exactly. If someone is actually eating only 500 calories a day, they won't be able to maintain the weight loss for very long without becoming seriously ill and possibly starving to death.

Have you seen the comments on the end? Tapeworms! Tapeworms are nothing new, I remember people joking about this in the 80's and there is usually some truth in any joke or it's just not funny. Rediculous weight loss strategies have been around a long long time. This one is unjustifiably stupid, but then weren't they all?

Sometimes I go to a fancy spa in Utah. They offer the HGC program for $1000 as an add on to the 7 day stay. The 7 day stay is about $2000.00

That's some pricey urine!

My mother in law has done HgC. She's lost a bit of weight. But it would still take her a bit of time to starve to death on 500 kc a day.

I have heard people claim to have lost 25 pounds after a weekend at colonic camp.

I work with a girl who spent $2200.00 for a two month supply of a whole bunch of pills she got from a "nutritionist" at the mall kiosk to help her lose weight.

She is higher than a kite

Just think of all the healthy food she could buy with that much money.

I've been on HgC (not for weight loss). Made me feel awful, bloated and achy. I can't imagine doing it unless absolutely necessary.

I think it's plain dumb- my humble opinion.

What's gonna happen when they start eating more than 500 calories again?

I'm trying to imagine what would make me think it was worth it to eat only 500 calories a day and then how I would do it! If someone else kept me very busy and also kept me away from the food...oh, being in prison, that would do it!

I know of a woman on another site who did lose weight using the plan. She's convinced it was the hormone that did it. She didn't get all the way down and is fretting over it. Oh, well, neither did I, so who's to say? but it's nice to feel you can be social while you follow a plan.
