* * * * May challenge * * * *

Post by ~reneew » Fri May 06, 2011 6:16 pm

This month is a bit late in starting as I've fallen off the wagon, but due to several people begging me  to post a challenge... I will. I need it too!

I challenge you to set a goal to meet by the end of the month!
This is for anybody who needs encouragement and daily accountability. We will all keep tabs on each other. Think of this as your own little cheering section.

- Write down what your goal is at the top of your post and then update us as to how you're doing. It's O.K. to not post daily, but try to keep us updated. Accountability helps!
- *Remember* to only post once at the top and edit that first post all month. It's easier to skim-read and find each other.
- Please re-read that last one, some people don't get it.
- after May 7th we will continue posting at the bottom for encouragement and fun.
- This challenge is meant for all of us to give support, so let's try hard to do that.
- anyone can start whenever through out the month. The more ~ the merrier!
- good luck and have fun with it!
I guess this doesn't work unless you actually do it.
Please pray for me

My my I've been binging... thanks for the boost guys!

I've changed my plan to waiting for my tum to grumble and having 1 dish. I call it grumble = dish. I usually only have 2 dishes of food. Listening to my body has lead me to not think about food so much. It has also allowed me to STICK TO IT and I'm seeing results. I'm shooting for the 21 day club this month.

May
07 and day 1
08 and day 2
09 and day 3
10 and day 4 woohoo!
11 and day 5
12 and day 6
13 and day 7
14 and day 8
15 and day 9
16 and day 10
17 and day 11
18 and day 12
19 and day 13 I'm on a roll!
20 and day 14
21 and day 14 daughter's highschool graduation party. Tons of food and tears. Good thing it's an S day!
22 and day 15 company still here and so are way too many leftovers!
23 and failure!!!! UG! there went the 21 days. Stand up brush off the crumbs and go on...

I'm glad this is starting a week late, because last week was failure city!

My May goal is to re-join the 21 Day Club (May 7-27). And while I'm at it, I'd like the rest of the month (May 28-31) to be green & yellow too! :) I am doing vanilla No S except for the mod that I take my Saturday S-Day on Friday.

Edit - Since I have the 5/10 failure, my new goal is 21 Day Club (May 11-31). How convenient! Just need to not fail again in May. What could be simpler? 8)

7 - Success
8 - S-Day
9 - Success
10 - Failure
11 - Success :D Day One, again.
12 - Success
13 - S-Day

27 - S-Day
28 - Success
29 - S-Day
30 - S-Day (Memorial Day)
31 - Success And I am back in the 21 Day Club! :D

Woo hoo! I lost 3 lbs. this month, but I think most of that was from irregular eating during the last week (having much less for dinner than usual). I did learn from the experience that I can probably cut down on how much I eat for dinner. I really don't get hungry in the couple of hours between dinner and bedtime. What I need to do is find a way to eat more for breakfast.

I'm all dressed up - hat, gloves, the works - to join the party. I've been pretty lax about exercise recently, so my goal is walking 30 mins M-F.

Yay! I'm in!

I have been struggling with full vanilla No S for a while, so I have decided to restart and implement the No S rules at a slower pace. So my goals for the rest of May are to follow the rules of No Seconds and No Snacks and to exercise at least 15 minutes every weekday.

May 10: Restarted with No S(-1) and 15 Minutes of Exercise
May 11: Success :D
May 12: Success :D
May 13: Success :D
May 14: S Day :D
May 15: S Day :D
May 16: Success :D
May 17: Success :D
May 18: Success :D
May 19: Success :D
May 20: Success :D
May 21: S Day :D
May 22: S Day :D
May 23: Success :D
May 24: Success :D I had a very bad day emotionally, but I stuck to my plan! I have finally realized that food isn't going to solve my problems. 8)
May 25: Success :D
May 26: Success :D
May 27: Success :D
May 28: S Day :D
May 29: S Day :D
May 30: Planned NWS Day :D
May 31: Success :D Even after three S Days which were a little on the wild side, I stuck to my plan with hardly any problems! 8)

Good luck everyone!

I am trying to climb on the wagon again too! I am going to begin on Monday as I am just finishing up a "21" and like to evaluate what I've done and where I've gone wrong and what I've done right! Unless I see something I'm missing, I too am aiming for "vanilla" with the modification of taking my S days any day of the week. I do see something I am missing: I need to add "small plate" on nights that I need to take meds that require I have food with them. I won't be having that extra plate unless I need the meds. Since we are retired, we tend to go out for meals and meet friends during the week and stay home on weekends. I would like to enjoy a shared dessert an a restaurant on a Wednesday from time to time...or have a dessert and coffee with a group of friends during the week. I'll see how that works for me! (*=means I didn't need meds so no need for that evening plate..yea!!)

Another week down..won't say there weren't some rough spots but Woo-hoo and way to go!!

   failure days this month
Important lesson learned: If you would have asked me before I charted this month, I would have said I needed that "small plate for meds" more often than not! How NOT true!

May Challenge

Post by r.jean » Fri May 06, 2011 10:19 pm

The April Challenge pushed me to exercise harder so that was good, but daily posting became a chore. This month, I am making the posting easier on myself. I have the habit cal calendar that tells me if I meet my overall exercise goals so I do not need daily posts here. My May challenge to myself is to get moving faster. By the end of May, I want to average 12 minute miles or less on my walk/jogs. That means I only have to record the days that I time myself which is 3-4 times a week.

May 1: 3 miles 37:26
May 2: 2 miles 24:54
May 3: 2 miles 24:09
****************

May 8: 5K event: 38:34 (12:26 per mile pace)
May 9: 2 miles: 25:00
May 11: 2 miles: 24:01
****************

May 15: 2 miles: 23:43
May 16: 2 miles: 23:59
May 18: 2.5 miles: 29:54
May 19: 2.5 miles: 29:20
**************************

May 22: 2 miles: 25:09 (This may look like I am regressing, but this day represents a huge success. I do not feel good. It is in the 80's, and the only time I had available to exercise was in the middle of the hot afternoon. I just got done, and I feel......triumphant?!)
May 24: 2 miles: 23:42 (I managed to get back down below 12 minute miles but had to really push myself. I am still feeling a little funky. I exercised in the cool morning which helped.)
May 28: 5K event: 36:54 (11:54 per mile pace) This was a hilly course so I feel really good about this time.
***************************

May 31: 2 miles: 23:30

May was a success. These monthly challenges are helping me with my exercise goals. I am now averaging 12 minute miles (or sometimes a little less) on my walk/jogs which was my goal. I will not be able to do the June challenge due to an extended vacation coming up.

I'm brand new to this, on my third day but have had 2 good days already.
My goal is to post in my check-in on here every single day.
I know it will help me stay on track if I can make it a habit.

I think I'm going to challenge myself to exercise at least 14 minutes a day, 5x a week for the rest of May - I started shugging but slacked off this week (not helped by an unrelated pulled muscle in my neck), but there is no excuse for not doing SOMETHING most days.

Green will be days when I make an exerted effort to exercise, Orange will be days when I do mild exercise incidentally (e.g. wandering into town to pick up my lunch) and red will be days when I do none.

7th May - :D - 60 mins walking
8th May - :D - shovelglove
9th May - - 20 mins incidental walking at lunchtime
10th May - - :D - 30 mins brisk walking
11th May - 20 mins incidental walking at lunchtime

19th May - :D - 40 mins walking
20th May - :D 40 mins walking

22nd May - :D shovelglove

Funny stuff I had coffee in an ice cream parlour and they served a tiny scoop of ice cream with it. I used it as "milk" for the coffee.. Didn't call it a failure though. I felt I had drawn enough attention already by not eating a big serving of ice cream, as all my friends did. Especially since I was the skinniest person of the four of us.

Here is what I find amazing: I am a relatively intelligent, free thinking woman... why does posting a little N mean so much to me? I stay on track so much better when I join this challenge? (maybe I am not the intelligent, free thinking woman I think I am!)

I've been off the wagon so much it's not even funny but I always keep coming back. It's like No S is the baseline I measure my (bad) behavior against. I eat mostly from-scratch healthy foods, but I just eat too darn much of it. I'm lucky, I guess, that while I haven't lost any weight, I haven't gained either. This might be due to joining a new gym which is providing an improved workout several days a week, plus I continue walking just about everywhere, even through our Minnesota winters.

I will join you beginning tomorrow and continue to the end of May. Vanilla No-S.

I could have written this down to the place of walking everywhere.. even in the winter. I have let a few raindrops (well..more than a few) put a "damper" on my walking anywhere! I bought a "walking" DVD" last week and it is still encased in plastic setting on the coffee table.. so I see it everyday..I just walk past it. ( sadly, my only walking) Today will change that all! I am going to get that tape out and do at least one mile and I am going to park a few blocks away from the dentist's office and take a stroll through town while I am out and about. This rain is really getting to me and I need to take charge! Thanks for the post! I am encouraged!! :D
