* * * October challenge * * *

Post by ~reneew » Thu Sep 29, 2011 4:56 pm

"I met my goal!" challenge

I challenge you to set a goal to meet by the end of the month and if you meet your goal, you get to declare your success to the world! (O.K. at least everyone who reads this thread.)

This is for anybody who needs encouragement and daily accountability. We will all keep tabs on each other. Think of this as your own little cheering section.
- Write down what your goal is at the top of your post and then update us as to how you're doing. It's O.K. to not post daily, but try to keep us updated. Accountability helps!
- *Remember* to only post once at the top and edit that first post all month. It's easier to skim-read and find each other.
- Please re-read that last one, some people don't get it.
- Monday we will continue posting at the bottom for encouragement and fun.
- This challenge is meant for all of us to give support, so let's try hard to do that.
- anyone can start whenever through out the month. The more ~ the merrier!
- good luck and have fun with it!

I'm in! :D My goal is vanilla No S and exercise Monday through Friday.

10/1 - S Day
10/2 - S Day
10/3 - :D (Resisted "nervous munching" & made time for exercise in a too-busy day. Yay!)
10/4 - :) (barely - UGH)
10/5 - :) ...limping by here....
10/6 - :) ...will the weekend ever get here?
10/7 - Finally caved....mark it & move on...
10/8 - S Day
10/9 - S Day
10/10 - no willpower today

I've decided to step back from No S for a while and try a new approach (basically just using common sense without the pressure of sticking to "rules"......hoping to decrease my obsessive nature with food). We'll see how it goes. Best of luck to everyone! Take care! :)

Newbie here (again)

Post by laketrash » Fri Sep 30, 2011 7:12 pm

I've lurked, I've read the book, I've "tried" No-S, and now (drumroll please), I'm doing it! I have been vanilla No-Sing since 9/19. I'm still struggling from time to time, so I want to join the Challenge. I will win my Challenge if I go through a green October (I don't know how many red days might be acceptable so I will plan on none and see where it goes.) Here we go... Edited to add that I have decided I cannot miss more than one day of exercise in a row (every other day is OK, just can't have two days in a row with no exercise). Here it is October 5, and so far so good!

10/1 S day
10/2 S day
10/3 S day Today is my 19th wedding anniversary and I am holding out for a very special treat!
10/4 No-S
10/5 No-S Wednesday was really tough - all the way around! Wanted to SNACK on a COOKIE I saw at work -- but didn't! Yeah, me!
10/6 No-S
10/7 OOPS-day Gave in to those homemade brownies at work - yummmmmmmy - and on my last day of three weeks of all green days.
10/8 S day
10/9 S day
10/10 OOPS-day
10/11 OOPS-day
10/12 No-S
10/13 No-S
10/14 OOPS-day - I'm pretty sure that 3 red days in a week is NOT a good thing! I may make Sunday a No-S day and if so, make today an S day, technically. We'll see.
10/15 S day
10/16 S day
10/17 OOPS-day Had a strange thing happen...about 4:00 my hands started shaking, I felt flushed, a little dizzy, very light headed. I did the only thing I could think of - went to eat a cookie. After about 10-15 minutes, I felt ok again. Any ideas on what was happening?
10/18 No-S
10/19No-S
10/20No-S
10/21No-S
10/22 S day
10/23S day
10/24 No-S
10/25 No-S
10/26 OOPS-day Broke down and ate the 2 cookies that came with my plated lunch. Excuses, excuses, I know.
10/27 OOPS-day Mid afternoon stomach started hurting, so had some "wild caught" tuna. Not a BAD failure, but No S is No S, right?
10/28 No-S
10/29 S day
10/30 S day
10/31 S day I don't know if Halloween is really an S day, but with all the stuff that flows through this office on that day, I'm not gonna worry about it.

Didn't do very well with this challenge. Out of 21 non S days on the calendar, I had two S days, and had 7 red days. Ouch - that's 1/3 of the days in October, I failed No S.

Vanilla No S for the month - my S days are already marked in my Habitcal, so I will have no confusion.

1 - S
2 - S

3 - N
4 - N
5 - N
6 - N
My biggest challenge was a meeting in the afternoon - they plunked down a handful of miniature candy bars in front of me. I shoved them over to my neighbor's side of the desk, announced that I had stopped snacking, and then had to stick to it so I wouldn't look like a loser!
7 - N My husband had to work late. Instead of snacking while waiting I went for a 1 hour walk. Yay me!
8 - S
9 - S

10-N
11-N

12-N
13-N
14-S
15-S
16-S

17-N
18-N
19-N
20-N
21-N
22-S
23-S

24-N
25-S (husband's birthday)
26-N
27-N
28-N
29-S
30-S
31-S (Halloween for a teacher is absolutely an S day!)

I met my goal! And I lost 1.3 pounds this month without calorie counting or dieting!

100 miles of walking or jogging in October
I ended up with 90.9 miles, but I feel successful. I was sidelined twice; once with a sports injury and once with bronchitis.

I'm in too! A full month of vanilla No S and Shovelglove!

I will NOT feel bad if I fail on either one once a week. For one, I have to be careful about my shoulder (it gives me trouble sometimes) and for another...well, I'm just being realistic about No S and my soda habit.

Halloween will be an S day for me. OF COURSE. But I won't GORGE myself on Halloween candy, either.

Here's my calendar, which I will update at the end of the day:

1: S-Day!
2: S-Day!
3: Success!
4: Success!
5: Success! And it's lucky I don't have any flour, because I have a craving for cookies and I would so make them in the middle of the night if it was convenient.
6: Success!
7: :( Failure. But only shovelglove-wise. I just didn't do it this morning, and it's too late to do it tonight. ALAS.
8: S-Day!
9: S-Day!
10: Succes! One thing I really like about this is that I don't feel guilty about going to McDonald's tonight!
11: Shovelglove failure. No S was no problem, but my back feels delicate today, so I'm taking it easy. I may take it easy for the rest of the week. I have to treat my back nicely.
12: Success! Although the dog ate my lunch and I reconsidered for a while.
13: Success!
14: Failure. Failure all around. Sigh. But I don't feel too bad about it. I have been doing really well. So. And the snacking was kept to a minimum.
15: S-Day
16: S-Day
17: Success!
18: I just don't
19: even want
20: to talk about
21: this week.
22: S-Day
23: S-Day
24: SUCCESS! Redemption!
25: Success!
26: Failure. But I don't feel too bad about it. I just absentmindedly ate a tiny cookie.
27:
28:
29: S-Day
30: S-Day
31: S-Day Halloween!

I want to accept the challenge for October and to lose 4 kilograms. I am starting at 63.5 and wanting to reach 59.5 by the end of the month. :!: By the way, can someone explain to me what a Vanilla day is? Thanks...

Following vanilla No S means just following the basic rules of the diet plan with no modifications. A lot of people use "mods" to alter the plan to suit their lifestyle. I am a Vanilla No S person myself. No mods here.

Thanks for the reply about Vanilla days. I might want to modify the program. Where can I go to see what modifications people are making. LaVonne

click No S general discussion and then No s mods. It's a sticky at the top. I've noticed that many mods are changed and modified. I've gone on to modify my mod several times myself. Ha! Now I just don't even go there because I've done that too much. I seem to end up back with plain ol' vanilla (no modifications) and that always ends up working the best. In my case anyway, mods are simply my way of getting around a rule that would have helped me to follow.
I guess this doesn't work unless you actually do it.

Did fine during the day but messed up after supper -- it didn't get out of control though (I had a small piece of chocolate and it ended there), so I guess that's not too bad.

Horrible day! Don't even want to think about how many calories I had today. :( Looking back at my week, it's not very green.

So sorry to post a copy of what I put on my daily check in but having a second green day in a row surely was a hard win.

After dinner I was okay for a little bit then the snacks I bought for the weekend started to call my name...and to top it off we had company last night so after they left the calling started again.

What I said to myself to get past it
  • You don't need to eat that now, you can have it on the weekend.

You can't even make it for another green day, there ya go again.

You'll have to report a red to your friends.

Remember how good it feels to wake up feeling empty.

Remember how good you'll feel emotionally.
There was another part of me that said "It will never happen for you, so why bother, you are too old to lose weight." which I had to counter with "maybe I'll never be skinny but at least I'll feel good". I also told myself that I only have 20lbs to lose and even if I only lose 1lb a month, it is certainly better than gaining 20lbs.

I'm sure there were plenty more, I just don't recall. I was paying attention last night a bit more to my pep talk to fight it off and how that one negative thought ALWAYS causes me to fall.

I hope tonight is not such a battle..but I'll surely be ready, not just give.

A friend shared: James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Well done nosnacker - hard won indeed, but you did win which was brilliant when it was so tough. Im trying to think like that too, If I lose only one or two pounds a month it will still make such a difference say by christmas next year, and the alternative is gaining Im pretty sure.

No, I did not win the chips and salsa battle, but I did at least I hold off for several hours (until 4:00) and ate a plate's worth. I'm calling it my supper if I don't eat anything else tonight. And I'm sticking to it! 8)

Wow, I was struggling with having chips and salsa and came on here for strength and came directly here and read this. What a help!!! Thanks! Very timely.
You helped me, too. As you know, I've been STRUGGLING, and I hopped on here to get some inspiration. Reading your post put me back on track. Thanks!!!! :)

Oct 1: S day
Oct 2: S day
Oct 3: SUCCESS
Oct 4: SUCCESS
Oct 5: FAILURE

A few sun chips and a small handful of cereal were the culprits once I got home from dinner and drinks with friends. I did resist any form of bingeing though so it some ways it was a small success for me.

[quote="NoSnacker which I had to counter with "maybe I'll never be skinny but at least I'll feel good".

Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.[/quote]

Hey and you know, those 20 months are gonna pass irreguardless of if we do NO S or not, so we may as well and if we lose a pound a month, we'll be 20 lbs lighter in 20 months!!!! Right

I'm late, but I'm in. My goal for this month is to work on the No Sweets (the thing I'm worst at), and the no snacking. I have the no seconds down just fine.

10 Failure on both counts. :(
11 No sweets: Failure (but I almost made it). No snacking: Failure (but I almost made it. Didn't eat anything extra until after 11 PM).

That is quite true......1 lb a month should be nothing to achieve!! A few less out of control days and anything is possible!

Thanksssss..

I see a bunch of "failed" Fridays. Aren't they tough?!? And why is that? It's like I can't quite make it to the weekend. Maybe if I told myself that the S day wasn't until Sunday... I also always plan pizza on Fridays and that is the toughest challenge for me.

I REALLY want to have a green Friday this week. Anyone else?

Maybe you could move your pizza day to Saturday so you could have seconds? We often go out to Mexican food and I had to move that to Saturdays rather than Fridays, because I like to have chips and salsa and sometimes a soda with it.

KathleenY,

My mac still lets me make colors. When you post reply, do you see the drop down box above the text box for "Font Colour:"?

Ya know, I have read that some people make Friday and Sunday their S days...and that seems to work for them. It depends on one's lifestyle. I know we are all different with all different needs. We are following what were Reinhard's needs, so maybe a mod is in order for you..than you won't feel like a failure.

Okay, hope I don't get shot for that one..

You guys are awesome!!

I've tried the Friday S day thing and I basically turn it into a FRI-Sat-Sunday S days extravaganza. Then after 3 days I can't get back on track. The thing is... I've ALWAYS had pizza on Fridays. if I wait until Saturday, I might have to miss it and pizza is my weekly need. Hmm.. Maybe I could try it on Saturday again. I'll think about it.

I was more successful than I expected to be. But I sure didn't have a perfect month.

Still, it was fun!

Me too! My goal was to have less than 9 failures (which I had in september).
I only had 3 and I'm very happy about it! :D
