Trick to help with snacking?

Post by gk » Tue Jan 10, 2012 11:53 pm

Read an article in "Shape Magazine" that I thought was interesting......

"In a study at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, participants were given popcorn to nibble on as they watched a movie and were told which hand to eat with. Those who used their non-dominant hand ate 30 percent less than those who didn't. "Switching sides disrupts that unconscious hand-to-mouth pattern", says lead researcher David Neal, Ph.D. "You slow down and realize the food is bad for you."

That might be a trick to try on S Days when we're trying to keep our snacking in check. However, it could also just be a way to become ambidextrous.
SW (as of 3/25/13): 172 lbs.
CW: 171 lbs.

Yeah, someone once said to use chopsticks so that you would eat less. You should see how good I am with chopsticks.

The problem (for me) is that it seems like it doesn't stop snacking so much as make you eat less when you snack. No good when I'm trying not to snack at all! Thank you for the tip though. It might be handy on S days, to avoid overindulging.

The best thing to do with your hands between meals is to keep them away from food. It's still possible to get the food in your mouth, but a lot more obvious how desperate you are.

absolutely hillarious! Almost as bad as taping my mouth shut. I may try this one!

I most certainly WILL try my left hand though! I'm gonna, I'm gonna! Especially with popcorn. Thanks for the suggestion!

Oh! And maybe I'll try eating left-handed with chopsticks! That aught to really slow it down. 8)
I guess this doesn't work unless you actually do it.
Please pray for me

I hope you understood that I can shovel in the food with chopsticks pretty fast, much like Asians can, though they don't overeat doing it. I've had a lot of practice.

The best way to avoid snacking for me is to decide firmly that it isn't an option, then clean out the house of all snacky stuff. If you can't find it, you can't eat it!
