Please "like" the No S Diet facebook page?

Post by reinhard » Mon Feb 27, 2012 2:34 pm

Hi guys,

I hate to ask this, but apparently one can't do anything today without resorting to social networking, if only for the sake of appearances. I'm about to hit up a publisher with another book proposal, and so appearances are kind of important at the moment!

Would you mind "liking" my no s diet facebook fan page when you get chance?

http://www.facebook.com/pages/No-S-Diet/248558174243

If I can get a critical mass of "likers" there I promise I'll even start paying attention to it.

Thanks in advance!

Reinhard

P.S. if you have any suggestions on how to make the facebook page actually useful, please let me know and/or post them here.

Thanks all who "liked" so far -- I'm going to try to post there more or less every N-day. And as I figure out the bells and whistles I'll gradually add them.

But don't worry, I won't neglect my loyal bulletin boarders here for facebook. In fact, one of the main things I'll use it for is to draw attention to especially interesting stuff here.

Hope you don't mind me asking Reinhard, but are you able to tell us what the new book is about? Is it a new version of the No S Plan?? Just very curious and interested!! :D

Not at all -- it's a more general book about habit building. It's basically a re-spin of a proposal a couple of years ago emphasizing moderation (working title was "Systematic Moderation") but alas, moderation is insufficiently sexy it seems. Habit builiding on the other hand, is getting sexier. And since habits are as much a part of everyday systems as moderation, I figured I might as well re-pitch it with a slightly different emphasis.

Working title:

"HabitThink: accomplish your goals by ditching them -- and thinking in terms of habit instead"

No breakthrough yet... but I'll keep you all posted.

Huh. Maybe you have to log in first? I'm working on it, but facebook is still a mystery wrapped inside an enigma to me.

Speaking of new books, Reinhard, have you ever thought of pitching one on the lifestyle of No S, 14 minutes, and Urban Ranger? You know, if you weren't so dang happy leading an emotionally stable, normal life, you could have a lifestyle empire, and you'd be doing more of a service than WW and exercise infomercials. But I guess getting the country to return to eating and exercise sanity is not as sexy as aligning yourself with the pursuits family life, smart friends and association with the Ivory Tower... It's okay, you have a subjective temperament, I understand. Piaget, one of the most astute observers of children, apparently didn't sit around playing with them. And I'm pretty sure Marx never tried to organize any factory workers, even if he ended with, "Workers of the world, unite!" He should have added, "And I'll be at the library!"

And may I suggest some self-styled youtube videos ala podcasts?

good luck reinhard :)
if you don't mind me saying.. i really think you should use the same avatar for the facebook page as your own here.. the one on facebook doesn't have that nice bold red circle with the cross through it, and even though i know you may want to have the three "s's" around the emblem, it just isn't as striking.. and i think it should be consistent with this site too.

I certainly have! Unfortunately I haven't been able to persuade my publisher to go for it yet... Thanks for the vote of confidence, though. There are so many other alternatives to traditional publishing these days...

Regarding the avatar, I am torn, Deb and Over43. I agree that the image I use here on the BB is goofy looking (low-res like something out of atari 2600 times), but also more recognizably in keeping with images I've used elsewhare vs. what's currently on facebook. What I may do is just go with a higher res red slashed circle S. Or perhaps with this:

Think I'm going to make this "sticky" so the FB information is easier to find. Thanks all who have "liked" so far and been paying attention. I think I'm slowly getting the hang of it.
