Only if you're Irish (or *very* catholic!)
Otherwise, there are a lot of saints, and a lot of countries (not all this wonderful, granted, but still). You'll be celebrating 365 days a year. And you can probably find some way of showing fellow feeling to your Irish friends and neighbors short of stuffing yourself.

Yeah, there's lots of saints and lots of feast days, but St. Pat's is different. In the past, when all Catholics abstained from meat every Friday, if St. Patrick's Day fell on a Friday, the abstinance was lifted for the occasion. This was never done for any other saint.
I say, go for it, but if you have fun tonight, then your S-Days need to end tomorrow night, and not extend over to Sunday.
Your very Irish and very Catholic friend,

In fact, the Bishops on this side of the country did just this on Saint Patrick's Day this year. That is, for those that were observing the tradition, they released them for the day.
I would have just gone with scallops for the day. :0)
Formerly Catholic, now Episcopal, and as Irish as the name Thomas Kevin (confirmed Michael) suggests. :0)

Great as is the authority of a part time amateur diet guru on ecclesiastical matters, I think I'll defer to the bishops on this one, then.
