Question for Oolala

Post by noni » Thu Jan 31, 2013 2:18 pm

I noticed that your weight stayed the same from March of last year until at least Sept. (I know you don't weigh yourself often). But your current weight shows a few dropped pounds (congratulations, by the way!). Did you tighten up your no s days or tamed down your weekends? I ask because I'm close to your age with 5-10 lbs to lose yet and I know how hard they are to come by.

Maybe it'd be better if you sent her a private message?

Anoulie, you are probably right, altho' not sure how to do that. Perhaps others could benefit from her answer.

She also has a daily check in thread you can ask there. I find she is pretty open about her habits and journey.

Hi, y'all!

All the time I've been doing No S, I've had a general sense in my mind that what I'm really trying to figure out is how much dense food I really need at my meals to feel content after eating them and hungry an hour or two before them. I have no plans to change the amount of non-dense foods such as fruits and veggies I eat, since at most I have three pieces of fruit a day, and I don't think I can overdo non-starchy veggies.

So, in the fall, I had to admit that even though my meals are already pretty moderate, I wasn't getting hungry for them consistently. So I started having slightly smaller portions of protein/starch/ fat at SOME meals. This also coincided with being more content to eat even less often on weekends, since I'm often hungry for only two meals on those days. Even then, there were still plenty of times I felt I ate more than I needed.

I don't know if you'd call that tightening up or not.

BTW, officially, I weigh for one week just before the change of each season, and average the daily weights to record it.

I've been sick (MUCH better now- appetite returned) and had pretty much lost my appetite for more than a week, having mostly broth and vegetables with a few extras. I know I've lost since then because I had several pairs of pants that are literally too loose now. However, since weight loss is not my main goal, and since I assume my weight will fluctuate as I adjust to a more normal appetite again, I will wait until Mar. 20 for the next installment. And I'll keep refining how I respond to my appetite.

And hope springs eternal that I will get regular about exercise.

So, oolala, No magic...just mindfulness. Thank you for your answer.

Actually, given how much I strained against being mindful and actually accepting lack of hunger in previous years (I was first introduced to the concept of IE in late 1979) , there is a little bit of magic. The magic of surrender.

Oh, and if you look at the bottom left corner of anyone's posts, you'll see an icon called "pm." That allows you to send a private message to the poster.

Oolala, what do you mean by the "magic of surrender"? Did you surrender to mindful eating?

I surrendered to realizing that I had to hold out against the urges to eat when they came outside of meal time, that random eating was terribly unsatisfying; I wasn't able to manage it and it was only getting worse. I didn't believe anymore that any diet was going to save me. I had to find a permanent way to eat reasonably.
