Digestive issues

Post by Healthiermum » Tue May 07, 2013 11:31 am

I have been having digestive issues( heartburn, stomach cramping etc) which ended me up in hospital and they have suggested I eat smaller meals to aid in digestion and help prevent the heartburn. I was just wondering how I would do this with no s. Eating between meals seems like a snack to me so I don't know what to do. Should I eat say 5 times a day but on side plates? Any help would be appreciated.

The No S Diet has a little known loophole just for you. If you look closely at the site, you'll notice that nowhere does it specify the actual *number* of meals. Now most people will make a certain assumption, and most people had better stick with that assumption. But if you have a medical condition that requires you to eat more often, you can still do so and be a proud No S dieter. Just make sure to figure out what number of meals is right for you, stick with it (no changing the magic number every day), and invest in some really small plates. And talk to your doctor, of course. As for the rest of you, pretend you never read this. It's for people with doctor's notes only.
I think investing in smaller plates is optional -- just put less food on your plate or use the salad plates that came with your dishes.

I was thinking of using salad plates I'm just scared eating in between the 3 meals as I don't want to eat too much or start eating snacky foods. What if I put the food on a normal size plate to start with and then eat it over 2 meals. Does that sound ok

You can do whatever works for you. Trust yourself to do that.

Would 4 "meals" work? Maybe 3 salad plates and one "regular" plate for the meal during the day that would be the spotlight meal.

Not sure how many meals they want me to have they just want me to avoid eating larger meals and way smaller ones. I'm seeing the specialist today so ill ask him. Last night I just had a piece of salmon and some spinach and that gave me heartburn all last night and this morning. I'm also on meds for it

Hmm. You might lose some weight, but not the fun way.

I had a lot of trouble with heartburn for several years, probably from aging and grazing all day. It disappeared when I started No S. Vanilla No S. About 2 weeks in, no heartburn at all - even with wild weekends. Whenever I get discouraged about continuing on, I think about that wretched heartburn.

i had bad IBS which lasted for about a year... it was awful... i cured myself by eating cultured foods and introducing raw virgin coconut oil into my diet... i highly recommend going and buying some kefir... yogurt is ok, but kefir is much more effective at restoring the healthy balance of bacteria in the gut... when the bad bacteria and yeasts build up (could be due to illness, too much sugar and flour in your diet, caffeine etc) they can cause all those issues... the kefir works to restore the healthy bacteria, and the coconut oil rids your body of excess yeast and fungus... you don't need to have a lot to be effective... try 1/4 to 1/2 cup of kefir daily and a few tsps of raw coconut oil (you can eat it plain or cook with it... very mild and nice taste)
i know you're asking about NoS advice, but i felt i wanted to share this with you because when i was going thru this, it was absolute misery... i was in pain and nauseous and weak for months on end... i have no problems at all anymore...
good luck!

oh, and for heartburn, it's good to have about a liter of water a day with a few tsps of apple cider vinegar mixed in...

Slightly OT, but I developed chronic heartburn out of the blue. It was so bad I was throwing up after every meal. Went to docs, was tested, given meds, avoided the typical food culprits etc. Nothing helped. About one year later, it went away and I haven't had it for years. I looked at what was going on in my life during that time that could have caused it to go away. The only thing different was that a co-worker who caused me a lot of stress quit her job and she wasn't around me anymore. It's amazing the weird ways your body reacts to stress.

It's funny how our body reacts to things isn't it. Thanks everyone for your responses what I have been doing these last couple of days is just eating 3 meals from salad plates so my meals are not too large and then drinking a beverage in between if it need it. I'm surprised that I have not been hungry and its helping with the weight loss too as have lost 2.5 kilos this week. So I think I will just stick to this for now as its following nos rules and it will keep my doc happy and then if I feel later on that I need more food make adjustments then.
