My goal is to read at least 1 hour to my kids on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
1: S Day
2: S Day
3: :)
4: S Day
5: :)
6: :) various picture books and a few chapters from The incorrigible children of Ashton place
7: S Day
8: S Day
9: S Day
10: :) read picture books, Incorrigible Children, and our history book
11: S Day
12: :) Yay! I am loving this challenge. It's so good for all my family.
13:  Utter fail. Took a "family night" movie that sounded like a good plan...an unusual treat for us. The movie ended up WAY too scary, then we stopped it early, the 8-yr old had a total meltdown and I ended up reading ZERO minutes to my kids today. Ah.... it hurts to fail that colossally.
14: S Day
15: S Day
16: S Day
17: Fail  only read 30 minutes, not the full hour
18: S Day
19: Yay!!! :) This success feels huge to me.
20: minor fail. read 50 of 60 goal minutes. Considering I was so tired that any reading felt like a challenge, I think of it as a pretty great result, actually!
21: S Day
22: S Day
23: S Day
24: :) YAY! Another success that feels huge.....when I succeed, I know that I am parenting how I want to be.
25: S Day
26: :) Success!
27: FAIL. It's become clear Thursday nights are my biggest challenge in the reading dept.
28: S Day

Finally back! I haven't been using a computer since I got laid off and it's a pain to do the check-ins on my iPad.

1 S - a piece of pie and 3 drinks (GC fail)
2 S - a piece of pie, a milkshake, and 2 drinks (GC fail)
3 N - success! ran through a gauntlet of treats at work though (no drinks)
4 N - fail! felled by spinach dip at Bachelor, dammit. Glass Ceiling success (1 glass wine)
5 N - success! my husband ate the last of the pie, thankfully! (no drinks)
6 N - fail! my snow day turned into an S day, apparently...snacks & sweets. Glass Ceiling fail
7 N - fail! my routine is ALL screwed up because we are snowed in. With homemade cookies. Which I ate. Two. Glass Ceiling success (1 glass wine)
8 S - cookies cookies, and a soda! GC success
9 S - cookie! GC success
10 N - success! Offloaded the last of the cookies onto my coworkers. (GC - no drinks)
11 N - success! I got 10,000 steps in yesterday. Much better than I've been doing lately. (GC success - 1 beer)
12 N - fail! dammit, I ate one piece of chocolate toffee after dinner. Not worth it because now I have to count the entire day as a fail. (GC - no drinks)
13 N - success - although I totally forgot to bring dinner to eat during the work event. I just suffered until I got home. Ended up eating just a huge hunk of challah bread and a glass of red wine. Whatever, it works. (GC- success - 1 glass wine)
14 N - fail due to V-Day (sweets). My husband made an amazing chocolate bread pudding. (GC fail - 3 glasses of Champagne)
15 S - chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate. Oops. GC fail - 3 glasses red wine (argh, that 3rd glass...it is so hard to not take!)
16 S - chocolate, but not as much! GC success - 1 glass white wine
17 N - fail! Two birthday cake Oreos. Dammit. They weren't worth it. (GC success - 1 glass wine)
18 N - fail! Two more Oreos. And GC fail - 2 glasses wine. In my defense, I got laid off today. So yeah. More info in my check-in thread. I think it will actually be a good thing.
19 N - success! Finally! (GC - no drinks)
20 N - ?
21 N - success, we went to Ruth's Chris for happy hour as dinner (GC success - 2 glasses wine)
22 S - went to Utah for vacation to visit an old friend (GC fail - 3 glasses wine)
23 S - Utah! (GC fail - 2 glasses wine)
24 S - Utah! (GC fail - 2 glasses wine...in my defense, their child is exhausting)
25 N - back home, bachelor night: fail (snacks), GC fail - 2 glasses wine (argh)
26 N - no food in house, husband still in Utah skiing, means chips & guacamole AND Oreos for breakfast (hah!) - fail (GC success - no wine)
27 N - SUCCESS! Husband back. GC success - 1 glass wine
28 N - SUCCESS! Avoided the snacks at a friend's house last night. (GC success - 2 glasses wine)

Hi Anna, you would use an S day for your extended weekend. Most people I have seen try to stick to 3 squares but might add something from the S category on vacation. Enjoy your meals and have fun!!

Hey eschano, good to see you too :-)
Re: daily check in. I've been lazy about checking in, so I let my thread drift. Then a few months later I got off track No-Sing (mostly around changing jobs, my sister's wedding, Christmas), so I figured I'd better get back to what worked before!

Hey Sweetness! Good to see you here too :-)

Sweetness: you select the dates with your mouse (hovering over the first date, hold down left mouse button) and drag down to how much you want to copy, highlighting it all. Let go of the left mouse button. position the mouse over the highlighted field, click the right mouse button and select copy.
Then click post reply and in the field right click and select paste.

I'm sure there is someone who can explain it much better :)

Ironchef: looking forward to reading your thread!!! :)

Totally agree, a little slip doesn't mean we are failures and continue on with eating...

I keep in mind that when those thoughts come, they are junk from a part of my brain that insists on the behavior (binge, eat more, oh tomorrow I'll start again), etc. but our higher self wants better for us...I know strange! Below is the link to a free e-book and the concepts I have been applying :)

Eschano, NoSnacker,

Thanks for the help! Saved me some typing. My Ipad wouldn't let me do it, but my laptop works.

I am starting small with renewed goals: Vanilla No S. Habit Cal tracking.

1-S
2-S
3-Red
4-Red
5-Green
6-Green
7-Red
Okay so week one was a blow out. It was the same reason each time; after dinner snacking, mainly sweets. At least I am tracking rather than just ignoring it.
8-S day
9-S day-(Very moderate S day). I did refill my soup bowl for dinner.
10-Over the top Red. :(
11-Green
12-Green
13-Green
14-Red
Week two was slightly better than week one, but still working on it. I am getting back to basics. I had gotten lazy with the rules. I have returned to strictness. Marking the reds makes me accountable.
15-S day
16-S day
17-Green day in spite of hosting a family birthday party. I skipped the birthday cookie and stayed at one large plate. I also joined a gym today. I am resigned to the fact that we may have many more weeks of this harsh winter that has been impeding outdoor exercise.

I got sick a couple days after I wrote this and spent the rest of the month fighting a nasty upper respiratory infection. I abandoned all tracking which was really not necessary. I was sick but not incapacitated after all! I am going to try tracking better in March (on my daily check in).

r.jean

I love using the habitcal. Actually when I came back this time after my first 2 attempts I went back to my habitcal from 2011 and 2012 and found after 2 months the reds slowly started there way back in and my weekends were so terrible...so now I'm aware that after a couple months my old habits might try to kick back in...

It is very encouraging for me to see that starting my 3rd month back in I have been green all the way, weekends are becoming somewhat tolerable, but I'm applying a new concept that I have shared on the discussion thread..based on fighting the urge..

Happy Friday everyone!

Thanks NoSnacker!!

I had a rough night last night and had to fight off the inner voice that kept saying "go eat something, one little snack won't hurt anything".

I felt bad not exercising, but feel good that I defeated the inner voice!

Nice work! I always like reading about these small wins. And the best news is that it will be a little bit easier next time you need to flex your determination muscle.

Something I thought I would share....I repeat this to myself often..actually how we build our habit of not eating/binging :)

"Given the repeated practice obeying my urges is how I created the problem, repeated practice ignoring my urges is how I will change it!"

My goal is Vanilla No S, and exercise at least every other day. If I finish out the month, that will be 23 days on habit. Great to see some old friends on this thread!!! Remember me???
6 N  A bit generous for dinner but OK, 3 miles jogging.
7 N  1/2 hour jogging

8 S  3.5 miles jogging
9 S  extra treats but not bad for a birthday!

10 N  good day, stopped myself from sampling my cooking before dinner, walked about 55minutes.
11 N  Success Good meals, jogging and walking.
12 N  Success, had a little struggle after supper because it was light and early, solved it by having some milk with vanilla and stevia, and then ignoring further urges! Jogged 3.5 miles.
13 S  out for date night/ valentines day Had an Icee and popcorn at the movie and half a sweet roll later.
14 N  good day

15 S  2 miles jogging 3 meals and some snacks & sweets
16 S  going well, really enjoyed my dark chocolate today... Will go for a jog in late afternoon/evening

17 N  FAIL; samples at Costco. Mark it, move on...
18 N  VERY stressful day, (see my daily check in) but 3 meals and jogging.
19 N  Jogged 3 miles or so
20 N  Walked about 2 miles to and from wallmart-lifted weights (carried bags) coming back.
21 N  went to the gym, 1 hour on treadmill

22 S  kind of over the top eating, miserable feeling
23 S  Better day, regular meals plus chocolate this morning.

24 N  Went to the gym with hubby. good workout
25 N  Stayed home except to go to Wallmart with DH Resisted samples!
26 N  Good workout at the gym!
27 N  I did do some virtual plating for dinner.
28 N  Fail, I decided to have seconds at the party last night because my friend's salad was so good. I also had more fruit and a peice of sweet bread. It was worth it. I had a great workout at the gym this morning, so I don't really feel bad about the month. Two fails, not bad.
Not sure what I did I now have two charts on here :? I'll stick with this one, and try to remove the original.

Catservant, I second NoSnacker! You're still out-greening the fails and sometimes we have months like that. Remember, it doesn't mean anything about you as a person, just mark and move on and succeed at the next plate!

I agree about the failures. Mark them and move on. We all go through times of noncompliance. I'm doing well this month, but have had months with far more red than green.

Remember, it does get easier with time. But even then we all mess up sometimes.

Also, please read the "reflecting on failures" thread that our very wise eschano just bumped up. There's a wealth of knowledge in that thread.

Averaging one small fail each week this month. I'd love to finish February off with at least one completely green week.

I know this is late, but I think I'll jump in. I'm trying to really tighten up on my No S habits. My goals are to stick to 3-4 planned meals a day (I have reflux, so I'm supposed to eat smaller, more frequent meals), and to have a sweet once a day with a meal (of course, I'll always have the option to not eat a sweet that day). My eventual goal is to do more Vanilla No S, with only eating sweets 1-2 times a week, but I think this will be a good start.

20. Fail my day was very busy, and I didn't eat the best. I didn't eat too excessively, though, so I would call it more of a minor fail.
21. Fail again, although once again, not huge (as in I'm no longer pigging out on junk food at nights), so it's still progress.
22. Success!
23. Fail, but minor. I ate a biscuit after my kids went to bed. It was stupid of me, because it gave me a mild stomach ache for the rest of the evening. :( Oh well. Other than that, my eating was good.

I'm delighted with the accountability these challenges provide, even if I find it at times discouraging to see some red on my bit but I then remember that ever next plate is a chance for a green plate!

Yes! Good goal. So far so good for me, I'm really happy with how habit has kicked in for me. Yesterday at Wallmart they had several samples. I was able to resist even though my husband was eating them.
