Why the sweater?

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

Why the sweater?

Post by jenji » Fri Oct 06, 2017 9:04 pm

Okay, I don't know why this is a sticking point for me, but why the sweater? Is the theory that 8 pounds swung at you would not hurt if covered with a sweater? What am I missing?

I now have a sledgehammer, so I might be starting this workout. Worst case, I am ready for future demolition/home repairs.

I'm pretty sure you're correct, the sweater won't prevent damage, but it at least won't be quite as bad as raw steel against soft services like walls, furniture or animals.
