Shovelglove stirring

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

Shovelglove stirring

Post by snazzybabe » Mon Jun 27, 2005 10:08 am

I had an idea for another shovelglove move (unless its already one).
What if you do stirring movements. Hold the sledgehammer in front of you with two hands and pretend you a stirring something. Make big circles going right and then change and go left. Uses your biceps, triceps, shoulders, back, abs.

I think the "cauldron stirring" idea has been suggested before, but it's a great idea in any case! Though Jan and Snazzy's images would probably make me too hungry to keep working out

How about stirring laundry? You know, the way they did back in the 'bad old days'. That would curb my appetite!

Still haven't got my sledgehammer. My dad has a ten pounder I would like to borrow, but I have to get over there first! :)

10 pounder

A 10 pounder would be plenty heavy to start with. You might even want to do the first couple of days with a broom stick.

I've been told I can have the sledge after a couple of weeks 'warm up'.
I'm starting with a hammer. I'm going to do the 'lever' move and some hammering actions (as if I was hammering something vertical), and I'll probably grab the broom too and do the stirring/shovelling.
I will be working up slowly...if I ever get started.

Get started

If you keep pretending, you'll love it. Remember, shovelglove is play work. You're working "for the man", stoking the ovens, picking the ore, shoveling the coal.

I've been doing some "stirring" now and then as part of my freestyle. It's fun, historical, and gives you a great range of movement. At the moment, it sometimes seems like almost too much range, like I'm doing something slightly different every time, but that may just be the usual new movement startup wobbliness.

Here's the original "stir the cauldron" thread Ariel mentioned:

Ha! There is something so satisfying about stirring a pot of magical potion with that SG! Fantasy like this is fun... so much more inspiring than simply counting "reps"... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...........
