RIP Zippy, Cat who inspired shovelglove

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

RIP Zippy, Cat who inspired shovelglove

Post by reinhard » Mon Aug 22, 2011 3:03 pm

Zippy, one of the two brother cats pictured on the home page (the gray and white one) who inspired "cat proof" shovelglove, had to be euthanized this morning. He had a stroke over the weekend and couldn't walk or see anymore. We're all pretty sad at the Engels house, but it's some consolation to think that Zippy will continue to inspire shuggers in jpeg format even after his passing.

I'm not sure about the metaphysics of cat mortality, but I think of a passage in "Little House on the Praerie" I recently read to my girls and am hopeful:
"Oh, Ma," Laura begged, "Jack has gone to heaven, hasn't he? He was such a good dog. Can't he go to heaven?"

Ma did not know what to answer, but Pa said, "Yes, Laura, he can. God that doesn't forget the sparrows won't leave a good dog like Jack out in the cold."

Poor little buddy! But I'm glad to hear it wasn't the shovelglove that did him in.

I am positive Zippy is up in heaven right now! Hugs for everyone in your household. Zippy has not only inspired shovelglove but has kept my cat safe in the process. Thank you Zippy.

:( Belated condolences. I firmly believe pets go to heaven. They don't have souls in the technical sense since they don't have the ability to make moral choices but they do have personalities.

Zippy looks like he had a lot of personality.

Thanks, all!

We appreciate your kind wishes.

Zippy's brother Gingi is still alive and well and actively engaged in his role of shovelglove mascot.
