Any of you guys heard of the Eowyn Challenge?

Urban ranger is an inspirational metaphor to get you walking. Warning: there is poetry involved. Discuss it here.

So, this site is pretty epic. Essentially, it was started by a bunch of people who wanted to walk "to Rivendell" and beyond. You log your mileage and it has detailed charts of where your mileage takes you along the path from Bag End to Rivendell and from Rivendell to Lothlorien, etc. It is pretty darn awesome. I though it would fit well within our Urban Rangering thread. :-)

Happy Walking. :-) :D

I hadn't -- love it. Thanks for the link. May be a little while before I can motivate to do something this ambitious!

Once I start working from home (in just 30 days!!) I'll probably start it for reals. I have a hard time remembering to keep my pedometer on right now. It looks like super nerd-fun!

Oh wow! I so have to do this. I am training for a marathon, so this should fit in well!

Thanks for this link - that site is super awesome, especially for a giant Tolkien nerd like me (I named my dog after the Luthien and Beren's dog in the Silmarillion).

I've just started this week. I've been getting up early before my son and husband and taking my dog out walking. It's really nice to imagine I'm walking through the Shire with Frodo, Sam and Pippin :)

Well, I've been walking every single morning for a week and it is awesome. I get up an extra 20 minutes before normal, so I can do a mile with my dog before my son wakes up.

I've only done 11 miles (so only just made it to "frugal supper" on the first night!) but I am loving it. Imagining I'm walking through an autumn Shire with Frodo, Sam and Pippin is an excellent, gentle motivation.

I don't count my miles for cycling to work, as hobbits didn't have bicycles. When I get to the parts where they are on pony or horseback, I will consider adding in my cycling miles :)

That is great, keep it up! This sounds fun, but I get bored tracking my miles - I'll forget to start my iPhone, or I'll get one of those exercise bands and wear it for a week...

I walk to work every day, so I get about 2 miles of walking in.

That is crazy that you only made it to the first dinner :D You'll get there soon enough!
