What's up with these Ads?

What's up with these Ads?

Post by reinhard » Thu Apr 21, 2005 5:25 pm

I know, they're a little strange... they're tailored to the information content of each page. As meaningful messages get posted, hopefully they'll get more relevant.

And don't worry, I'm not getting rich off them. My dream is to have them cover expenses. I'm going to experiment with positioning, size, etc. over the next few weeks. Let me know (here, preferably) if you find they're getting too obnoxious, or if you have other ideas on how I can generate ad revenue without frightening you all off.

Actually, these are really on the periphery, and I think most people will just tune them out (to the chagrin of the makers of "Airsoft Guns" and "Cork/Vinyl Bulletin Boards"! LOL...) So far, they're actually amusing!
They really aren't as in your face or obnoxious as those nasty South Beach and Atkins profiles on Yahoo...
As for generating more income.. You need to sell posters of you doing Shovelglove, in a Herb Ritts style black and white photo... Some grungy oily garage setting! Hee hee...
Sorry! LOL.. Couldn't resist.
Wink!
Don't worry about scaring anybody off Reinhard!
I think everyone involved here wants you to have success!
You deserve it!
See you later :)

Thanks, Deb. I'm sure as the posts get more on topic, we'll see atkins et al show up here too (but not taking over the whole page).

HI Deb, I think I fixed the overlap problem on the home pages. Take a look and let me know? Thanks for bringing this to my attention! Might have taken a while otherwise.

Ads

Reinhard, the ads don't bother me a bit. Covering expenses is very important and your time is money too.

I am still getting used to the new format and I am gettingthe hang of it.

Welcome, Marsha! Glad to hear they don't bug you. I've toned down the ads so that they only appear on pages where actual discussions are taking place, so there is some subject matter to which they could conceivably relate.

hey Airsoft guns can make great training tools, for the law enforcement officers among us!

So did I just create some new ad material by mentioning airsoft and law enforcement??

The airsoft guns were there from the beginning (though now I'm sure they'll stay on this topic page forever!). It reminds me of the time when I did a web search for an obscure Russian literary critic and one of the top hits turned out to be a porn site, jam packed with meta tag keywords referencing everything under the sun, including my literary critic. The pornographer's rationale must have been "whatever you think you're looking for, you're really looking for porn." I guess it's the same way with firearms?

Obscure Russian "Literature"....

Post by gratefuldeb67 » Sun May 01, 2005 9:08 pm

Were you looking for works by "Ivana Humpalot, or Catherina Cuminsky"
They are very obscure... You can only find them in stores with painted out storefronts, and windows....
