O43 Check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

I did not know they had those either. The hydrocodone worked its way through my system pretty quick. Surgery at my age is not an option. I am supposed to go until my legs do not work anymore, then surgery. (2-3 rods? I forget how many.)

Aside form that, this week has been a bit lackluster-ish. Snacking a lot, and drinking soda again. That black berry Canada Dry. Darned Canada Dry! Well, we'll see how Monday goes. Super Bowl weekend is never a day to try to just three plate it.

Feel good since Wednesday's Super Slow workout. I went at it. I thought I would be hating life, but I am alright. My wife says my mid-section is tightening up. It must be the planks?

Well, everyone have a good weekend!

The last few days have been highlighted by a lack of paying attention to what I have been stuffing in my pie hole. As my mother would say to me: Shame on you.

I plan on my Super Slow workout this afternoon. Oh, I forgot. I spent an hour this morning digging my Mini Cooper out of the snow. That should count as some kind of physical effort. This year the Teton/Yellowstone/Upper Snake River Valley region has turned into Buffalo, New York.

Here in Pa, I've always counted a reasonably heavy snow removal as my daily exercise and generally avoid any added activities. It can be the most "real" work I've done in months.

Yesterday, after lunch, was great.

Today, an Ore-Ida egg bowl w/ 3 eggs (instead of one.)

I went to the Super Walmart and picked up enough food, for work, that includes today and tomorrow.

I am going to start exercising again next week.

It is time for my bi-annual check in...I typed that with sarcasm.

Yesterday, Sunday, I ate everything (sarcasm) in the house. I am actually heavier than I have ever been. I have had reflux nightly, even the otc reflux medicine gets worked over. Three weeks ago while giving a lecture on Stalin I slumped in my chair. My students thought I died. There was no tunnel with a light at the end.

So, today, without even realizing it at first, I ended up with just three meals. Not the healthiest, but three plates. I did not drink sugary soda and have had some indigestion, but not bad.

I have been trying to strength train regularly. Two weeks ago I strength trained three days that week and was so beat it took two weeks to get back on the Soloflex. So tonight after watching three episodes of St. Elsewhere I drug my duff off the couch and did a SuperSlow workout. My logic is, if three days a week poops me out for two weeks, then one hard workout a week should be just right.

Tomorrow is tomorrow, we will see how it goes.

OMG!!!! Actually, I am intrigued (not about you nearly dying in front of your students but instead by) your knowledge of Stalin! I have been reading about him recently. Fascinating murderer! I've been reading lots of dystopian stuff lately - 1984, Brave New World, Gulag Archipelago, Man's Search for Meaning (well that one is more cheery). I've ordered "Ordinary Men" for myself for Christmas. It's all enough to make me slump over in my chair. Was the slumping because of horrible reflux or just pure despair?

And how come you get to teach students? FTF education here is outlawed and has been for 9 months. I won't get to see a real student for at least another 10 months, making a total of 19 months of students losing ground. Sigh.

I don't really like weight-lifting but I sure do enjoy walks. It is never too hard or something I dread, the way I feel about other types of exercise.

Thanks for checking in. So sorry about the reflux, the generalized darkness, the despair of it all. Here's to some sort of dim light at the end of the tunnel.

12.09.20

Tuesday was excellent. Three meals and a glass of milk in the afternoon. Breakfast was a Sausage Egg Mcmuffin and a mocha. Lunch was Taco Bell, my students bought it for me, dinner was three eggs and four Kodiak pancakes. I will come clean, there was a bit of syrup. But hey three meals, no snacks or sugary sodas, no seconds is a win.

Today a bowl of oatmeal with two tsp of sugar. Lunch was a staff lunch at a Mexican restaurant in town. I had a pita taco w/ imitation crab, guacamole, and lettuce. I had about 10 chips w/salsa and about 1/4 of the rice.

Dinner, will be about 6:00. I am going to split a rib eye with my wife, split the rice from lunch, dice up a pear and wash it down w/Fresca.

It has been 48 hours since my Soloflex SuperSlow workout. I feel good.

No in this case the lights went out. They said I was out for 20-30 seconds. I saw my doc the next day. I told him for a couple of days I had been forgetting words, not finishing sentences, forgetting names, confusion, I had a headache. He looked at me funny. Since it happened, it took a few days but I am back to normal.

Living in Idaho comes with the understanding that though we are dumb, we make up with it with that high desert gutsyness. If the mountains, desert and winters do not kill us some GD virus will not either. Actually we might be just dumb. So I have been in class since late August. I am OK with it. I wear my Led Zepplin face mask and drink hand sanitizer. I have been sick, I fortunately I made it.

In regards to Stalin, about three years ago I started reading nothing but WWII. Then I realized I was very familiar with Adolf, but really knew nothing about the Red Czar. After five or six different biographies I have concluded he was a bigger dick than Hitler and that is saying something. I am a bit worn on WWII. Maybe the next two or three years will be the Middle Ages.

Anyway, walking is good, but of all things it causes back pain. Even taking pain pills does not corral it. I take 30 mg of slow release morphine. The pain management specialist told me if I had break through pain to call and he would get me Vicodin. I refuse to go that route.

01.04.2021

That was a fast holiday. School has started again today. There is a winter storm warning out for tonight and tomorrow. Who knows, tomorrow might be another off day. (Like I should be complaining, I did not have students in desks for 3 months last year.)

I did not No S over the whole two week holiday, but my pants are fitting better, so I must have consumed less than I thought. I still am sleeping more since my collision with the My Corona virus, so while I am sleeping, I am not eating? I hope.

My wife sent me a message this Christmas. Due to arthritis and spinal stenosys I have been having a more difficult time using my Soloflex. Even reconfiguring it has been difficult because the weight of some of the parts have been uncomfortable. Squats are becoming an adventure, and leg press as well. So, Christmas morning I walked out, and almost tripped over, a new Total Gym XLS. She got it for 60% off at Amazon. I have used it regularly since the day after Christmas, and have a session scheduled for this evening. Even though I have been a Sololfex guy for 30+ years, I have to say, I like the Total Gym. I am not sure one is "better" than the other, just different approaches. The Total Gym does make it so there is not spinal compression like some of the Soloflex exercises have. Which is good. I must say, I am at the stage where I cannot do a proper pull up, but I can slant the Total Gym glide board so I can do a Total Gym pull up.

Well, that is my welcome to 2021 update. I hope you all are well.

Jon

The Total Gym sounds nice! Good for you for working out with it and for sticking to 3 plates of food, especially the first week back after vacation! I know its always hard for me to get back into the taking care of myself swing after a long break.

Thank you pink hippie! Although my eating ended the week up and down, I did get three workouts in. Plus my trousers are fitting better. Also I am noticing my shirts do not look so stuffed. I seem to have the exercise vigorously habit back, now time to get consistent with eating.

Halfway through January, my least favorite month. I received the Covid vaccine on Friday, poke number one. They said there would be side-effects, heck yes there were! Plenty of them. I slept Saturday and Sunday on and off, and ached. The aching settled in my right hip and back. I even got the chills. Usually I do not. So, I went through Covid part Deaux, or it felt that way.

Still using the Total Gym, I kind of dig it. I missed a workout on Friday/Saturday due to the above mentioned inoculation. Hopefuly this does not repeat itself in four weeks after poke two.

So, a new week, a new chance to get back to 3 meals a day, no snacks, sweets or seconds. I am drinking more water. (Yuck)

On another note, I mentioned No S to a militant Keto-ite. Although I have always lost weight when I stick with No S, this person was unrelentless in his/her dogma that I could not lose on such a carb loaded diet. (I eat spaghatti, raviolis, mashed potatoes, drink diet soda...) So, I excused myself and wandered on. No sense wasting my time. I think dieting can become a pathology for some. Good luck to them though.

Well, I am backlogged on correcting, so, see you later!

Glad you came out of your side effects ok! Sounds like you felt pretty sick. Thanks for letting us know what it was like for you.

I agree! I can't do the militant food group cutting that some of these fierce advocates of diet dogma recommend. Just another reason I am so grateful for No S!

The green days are on and off.

I do have a very good habit of exercise however. As mentioned above my wife bought me a Total Gym for Christmas. I have been on that 2-3 days a week since. No weight loss, but I am getting more fit. Tuesday (yesterday) I did a session at 4:00 AM. I set the stop watch for ten minutes and did deep knee bends until the alarm went off. I do more of the "traditional" exercises (dips, pull ups, shoulder presses) because now, being able to angle the glide board and modify my weight, I can do those exercises again. I am warming up to the cable exercises. Sunday afternoon I did six sets of 15 reps (each) supersetting dips with pull ups. I have not done that type of exercise routine in decades.

I am starting to see some tonus in my shoulders and arms. However, my dodgeball like mid-section does not enhance the look.

Everyone take care!

It is actually. I was so skeptical at first. When I strated to really get the hip and back pain I should have dropped the skepticism and bought one ten years ago.

Yesterday was a multi-food pile-up. I ate, and ate , and ate some more. If I had not fallen asleep after dinner (one plate), I might have eaten more.

I woke at 3:45 this morning and used the TG for about a half an hour. My was tired and physically a bit tired from my Tuesday workout where I probably did 500 deep knee bends. (It was timed) I am still in my experimental phase. I might be in that phase for sometime.

So yesterday was Red.

This weekend will be shot to poop. I am visiting my daughter in Logan and she likes to cook. (She is a grad student at Utah State Russian Folk Lore.) We might try to make a Beef Wellington.

Good Morning,

On days and off days. My weak spot is I do not eat a proper breakfast. I believe that makes me hungrier later on in the day. Since 2010 when I joined I have always noticed that issue. I have lost 25 pounds previously and I have done two 21 Day challenges. During the 21 days challenges, I lost 10 pounds each time. I need to get the breakfast habit. I have tried just a Slimfast shake at 8 AM, but that "Four Hour Hunger Control"? not so much.

That is where I am at now. I know it works, I need to put all the pieces together to hit another home run. Or I need something to motivate me. The 25 lbs. loss was a pre-Caribbean vacation.

Last weekend I road the bus to Logan and stayed with my daughter for 4 days. I ate quite a bit then. But it was good. My daughter and her husband cook well.

I have put more oatmeal in my pie hole since Christmas (did I already write this?) than I have the previous 56 years out together. And all I have to say is, yuck. I do not want to eat the flavored packs, because they are quite sweet to my palate, and I really like the maple and brown sugar. Anyway, yuck!

Exercise is not a problem. In fact exercise is a win! I have an excellent habit there, three days a week from 40-45 minutes. This morning I did 12 minutes of deep knee bends on the Total Gym. (I get tired of counting reps.) The I did 5 supersets of dips and pull ups, three sets of curls, pull overs (three sets) and hands facing in pull downs, using super sets of 10 reps. I am going to lower the glide board on pull overs and increase reps on the pull overs and pull downs. Regardless of the equipment I use, I can bulk up rather quickly with strength training. I do not mean I look like Farnk Zane (Mr. Olympia 77, 78, 79.). I look like a bulk.

so, that is what is up today. See everyone soon.

I weighed myself this morning. First time in a bit. I went back on Lyrica (which I might have written recently...) and gained the Lyrica 10 pounds back. I had been at 205 lbs. After two weeks I returned to a not so slim 215 lbs. This morning I was 212 lbs. I think I have hit that holding pattern weight that plagues me.

A few days ago I scored the high score on a Galaga game that the high school I teach at has. A student took a photo of me with the high score. To say the least, I was quite embarrassed.

Yesterday was a Success. I guess you can say I cheated, my second Corona vaccine left me without much appetite. But, I did get a workout in before the side affects actually kicked in. Since, as most of you know, a Total Gym is generally bodyweight resistance, I had done 400-500 deep knee bends yesterday morning, so my legs were in a state of ache last evening. I woke this morning and felt much better.

Breakfast has been oatmeal (yuck!) and a Diet Mt. Dew. Lunch is still a mystery. My twins' birthday is this evening, I think I am going with the riblets.

Have a Great Day!

Sounds like you don't like oatmeal! I am assuming you have tried every variation you can think of? I love oatmeal but I make many different kinds. My favorite is peanut butter and raisins.

Congratulations on your success day! I hope the side effects from your second shot are not too bad.

Haha I was JUST going to mention that Pinkie uses peanut butter to improve hers! :-) She beat me to it!

I didn't know you had twins! :-) Tell me more - how old are they? Boys? Girls? One of each? :-)

The reaction to the vaccine, especially dose #2, sound like a doozy for some people!

I have actually thought of putting bacon in my oatmeal. However that would be a crime against humanity, and bacon. Our twins are both young ladies. Yesterday they turned 22. They are our youngest. And truthfully have been quite a pleasure. As have our other three.

Yesterday was a Success. Three plates of food.

No exercise yesterday, it was an off day for that. But later today is when I plan to use my over sized midsection as the weight on the Total Gym.

Good Day!

Hi Over 43 - glad you have made a full recovery from your funny episode. Out of curiosity, did your doctor mention TIA to you?

cheers, Ladybird

5 children!? I feel like I should have learned all this stuff about you ages ago! Like that you're a teacher, and you have raised a mighty family that you love!

I'm glad that your "over-sized midsection" as you put it can be useful during your workout.

LOL Auto! I have to spread the peanut butter oatmeal gospel where ever I go. :D

I know I have seen savory oatmeal recipes online... not sure if they have involved bacon though. You never know!

Congrats on your green days!

Thank you both for the continued support.

Monday was a Success.

I wish I could remember what I ate yesterday. Breakfast was not big that I recall. I was a bit nauseated so I gave my bisquits and gravy that I bought at a truck stop to a student. Then for lunch I have a spicy chicken sandwich, stewed tomatoes, and a pint of milk. In the after lunch hours I was hungry again so I drank two cups of milk over about 3 hours. Dinner was late due to a nap and I had a Japanese rice omelet, 2 thinly sliced peices of Spam, and an apple, with another cup of milk. Bed was about 10:00 PM. I passed a stone about 1:35 and went back to sleep. More water, maybe less milk. Or certainly less soda, diet or not.

Tuesday (Today) breakfast: One Mickee Dee's sausage egg McMuffin, more milk

That is it so far. Have a good day.

Well Tuesday became a Failure in the early afternoon. Bummer. And I stayed up until 12:30 AM to watch an awful three star movie on Amazon. I know better than to not let the stars guide me. I could not get up early enough to exercise, so after school this afternoon. So much for discipline. I need to watch how much milk I drink. Taht is a lot of calories. Although I certainly do not think milk is as destructive as soda.

I hope everyone's Tuesday went a bit better than mine.

Wednesday is ancient Latin for Failure. I ate, and ate....

But I did slow down at about 2:00 PM. I had a dental cleaning at 4:00 PM so I did not want my teeth to be disgusting. Of course I flossed, mouthwashed, and chewed eight pieces of gum on my way. The dental assistant was not the most gentle of assistants. No cavities though. It has been 35 years? since I have had a cavity.

When I arrived home I skipped nap time and put on my exersice clothes and put in about 45 minutes on the Total Gym. I have entered a new level for my legs, about a 22 degree angle. I did 100 deep knee bends and 3x20 for jump squats. Those are something I have not attempted before. Then I did at least 1x20, 5x15, super-sets of dips and pull ups. Then 4x10 for pull overs and about 5x10 curls. I was rather toast by the end. But, that is OK, and being able to work that hard during a workout is good for me, and a much improved me. I was fading fast physically last Fall.

So, can I exercise myself out of a poor diet? no, but I can try.

Everyone have a good day.

Hi automated, I think there are people who can, but not me. I have my own "theory" about exercise, the way the body responds, and weight loss even. There is a theory called gene regulation. Certain exercises, or lack of, turns genes on and off. There was another name for it, but it eludes the cells in my brain that have turned off. I thought of this before I read some articles on it, the theory was out there. I should not call it mine. But, I could not explain it at the time very well and people would look at me like I was not very bright. That could be true.

I think when people start exercising regularly, depending on their DNA make-up, genes are activated to facilitate the new challenge. Runners start to look like runners, burgermeisters start to slim down a bit and look like European weightlifters, swimmers, etc. I think the calorie/calories burned theory is fine, but when the body adapts it starts to shape itself to get the job done. When I swam a lot, my legs thinned (which is startling because they are already very thin.), and my neck and shoulders grew. I could not button up my dress shirts in the neck area. When I jogged a lot about 15 years ago I did not lose a lot of weight, but people would ask me if I "ran". No, I jogged. Lifting shapes me differently. I have an "odd" shape, I have a cross country runner's legs, and the upper body of a Bulgarian weightlifter. We all have the same baseline shape, exercise begins to define it.

I guess the key, if possible is to match a person with his or her DNA make-up. On the two Total Gym Facebook pages I joined, I presume a lot of the members (particularly women, and that is not a slur, it is just an observation I made) complete a wide range of exercises during a workout. Some use the TG for 4o minutes (let's say), then use a rebounder or treadmill for who knows how long, and follow that up with a a thigh workout. Obsessive I think, and they attribute their new shape to diet and exercise, correct, but not gene expression.

We have all seen people jogging who look like they are in incredible pain, they probably are. But we also see people who run with ease. They are runners. Some runners have no idea until they are startled by the mirror, start jogging, and after a time run with ease.

That was a long theory. Sorry.

As far as No S goes, the past is not bright. I am eating more than ever. But today is a new day. So is tomorrow. I did workout this morning though.

Not a bad weekend actually. Yesterday I created a huge lunch, Ramen, a sour cream dip I made with garlic and black pepper and would set some spam on a cracker, and then a dolop of the dip. I should have my own Youtube show. The whole lunch concoction was huge. And I ate maybe half of it. Possibly on a 3rd of the Ramen. For dinner I made a grilled spam and cheese sandwich with oion. I know, but I am cooking again, and experimenting. I broiled the Spam, toasted the bread with the cheese and onion on it. It was good, it did need mustard. I forgot that, or maybe a garlic aioli. Or for guys like me, a garlic mayonnaise. Aioli, really? We cannot just say mayo anymore?

I am also starting to make recipres from Sam the Cooking Guy'd recipe book. (The first one I think.) Good stuff. Regular ingredients, usually. Plus he has recipres for the left overs. You can't beat that. Cooking is saving a bit (and I mean a bit) of money, Door Dash gets really, really expensive. And, now at 57, I am not enjoying restaurant food like I did when I was young. Part of that might be that Eastern Idaho does not have the culinary options that you find in San Francisco, Seattle, or even Sacramento. Or even Elko for that matter. Saturday evening I made a beef stroganoff with left over steak that I watched him cook on Youtube. Not bad, in fact I was going to bring it for lunch and forgot. Shoot!

Next, I want to master the the chopped cheese sandwich. I watch Sam's video of that and I fall in love.

As far as exercise goes, Saturday was a very good workout. A winner.

Food is a disaster. Failure I am wondering of the Lyrica (water weight, appetite turbo) plus the exercising (the most effort since I was swimming two years ago) are putting a jump in my brain, telling me to eat more. If only I could get that scientifically proven by science, then I would have an excuse. Lyrica is supposed to cause a 10% weight gain. I have shot up 30 pounds for the last few years. When I go off, and experince the Lyrica withdrawl, I lose weight pretty quick, but I think it is the water weight. I make a lot of water when I quit taking them. Then the neuropathy starts. So my diet stinks, but at least my fitness level is getting fitter.

Yesterday, I went at the total Gym.

March 9, 2021

I got a late start yesterday on my workout. I wanted a 5:00 AM session, it turned into 5:00 PM.

1x100 Deep Knee Bends, 1x130 Deep Knee Bends, Level 5. I thought about a third set, but kept it at two for now. Next week.

4x15 Shoulder Press Level four. That is the next highest level. I had been doing these at Level 3 since Dec 25. The fourth set was a "get kicked out of Planet Fitness" set due to the grunting I was doing.

So then I thought, "Let us just do a shoulder day!"

Humbling. I started the cable overhead press at Level 2. I did 8, and then realized I needed to drop to Level 1. I did 4x8.

Lateral Raises 4x8 Level 1. Those have never been an impressive move on my part.

UP Right Row 3x10 Level 3.

My realization on these was, I spent to much time doing bench and curls in the 80s. Time to make up for that.

Then I laid upside down on the glide board Level 4 and did 4x10 curls. I got a call from Planet Fitness way down at Idaho Falls, they told me to quit grunting on the last set. Well, they would have anyway had I been in their shop. But, I would have earned pizza I have heard?

Lastly, Level 5, I did Body Curls using my head with gravity to help. I did 1x30 to failure. When I reach 50 I will lower to level 4 and get rid of some of the gravity. Cheating I suppoe, but it gets me a burn in the abdominals as I have written before. I am doing what I can right now.

The Overhead Cable Presses were causing some "breakthrough" pain in my lower back. I will have to think that through.

The angles end at Level 6 about 26*. Then going down: 22*-18*-14*-10*-6*.

There is a trigonometry formula using Cos, but I majored in History. The math guys on the Facebook group figure out how much body weight is used with a formula. Being about 210, I am pushing and pulling more weight than many. Not a ton though.

So, I continue trying to do my rehab on this 57 year old body that got blasted by Corona in November, and was ignored for the last 5-10 years.

On to Thursday.

Home Run!

Three meals. A quarter can of Sprite to settle my stomach.

Wednesday was not a workout day, but I was sore from Tuesday. Today (Thursday) is a workout day.

Nothing else to share with you all. Though I did drink more water, and a Diet Coke (1).

An "easy day" probably to some.

Level 5 Squats: 3x20
Level 6 Squats: 1x30
Level 4 Pull Overs: 4x15
Level 4 Hands in Pull-Ups: 4x10
Level 4 Seated Rows: 4x10

My legs felt a bit "dead" this morning. Maybe because I started at about 3:50. I have noticed early morning is a bit more lackadaisical than afternoons. I think the moving around during the day loosens things up a bit more.

My waist is starting to subtract. I am down two belt notches since December. A lot of it starting within the last month. Which makes some sense. ALthough my eating habits are still not habits, the extra movement and strength training is reshaping me.

See you Saturday.

I am eating less, but still more than I should be. I am still working the Total Gym. I might save some money and buy the Cyclo Trainer. It is an attachment you can "hook" on to the Total Gym and it turns the TG into a recumbent bike. The only issue I have is buying another piece of exercise equipment.

Anyway, Thursday was a fullbody workout: squats, dips, pull overs, rows and inverted curls. (You lie down with my head at the reverse end of the glide board and curl your way "up" toward the tower.) I have been remembering to workout, then eat. If I eat then workout I have a tendency to get heart burn.

It is good to have the exercise habit down. They say you cannot exercise your way out of a bad diwt. That maybe true, I could when I was 18, 25, 35, and then not anymore.

Have a good weekend!

It took me a LONG time to convince my husband that he couldn't exercise his way out of a bad diet. He is 45 this year. For a long time he just kept going on more bike rides but finally he realized he was going to have to address his eating as well. I think for men maybe its even easier to think exercise will keep your weight lower. I hope you had a great weekend!

Not eating less, although, I did yesterday. This morning has started of well: a mocha and one Egg McMuffin. Tastey.

Yesterday's workout:
April 4, 2021

Level 3

Squats: 1x50, 1x100, One leg-ged squats R/L 1x20

Dips: 1x10, 1x15, 1x20

Pull-overs: 1x10, 1x15, 1x20

Level 4

Seated Rows: 1x10, 1x15, 1x20, 1x15, 1x10

Triceps Extension: 1x10

"Iron Cross": 1x5

Finis...

I am gaining more strength back, after March was a hit and miss month. But, I was abale to comfortably get that set of 100 Squats/Deep Knee Bends on the Total Gym. I am beginning to like the one legged squat. A set or to of 10-20 finishes of the long set(s) nicely. I repositioned the TG so I can extend my arms outstraight, so I did 5 "iron cross" movements on level four. I think lowering the incline to level two will be a good thing. There are something like 80 exercise options on the TG, some (like using the cables and foot harnesses for Pilates type exercises) I will never do. Others I am hesitant because of the twisting motion around my lower spine. Other than that, As I have probably mentioned before, I find the Togtal Gym, after years of scepticism, to be quite excellent.

No, but we exercise anyway because of the other benefits
I agree. I have gained my weight a bit later in life (40's), but I have known people (my father) who are overweight, yet quite fit. My father will be 80. During his Palm Springs trips he will throw his golf clubs on his back and walk 18 holes when the tempt is 105*. I pay attention when I see marathons on television. Of course the networks want to highlight to front runners, but occassionally, when they pan the crowd, you see people participating who are heavy. In my own case I can work my way up to 2-2 1/2 miles swims in the local college pool. I am not fast, but I can swim comfortably, and I thank boyancy everytime.

My youngest daughter married Friday. It has been chaos, relatives from Arizona, California, Utah and Washington. It is great to see them, but chaos. I have been eating as well as can be expected. The workouts, I am still at them. Some push mindfulness, others weed  but strength training has been my thing. As a teen, when I was afraid to go to school and afraid to go home, my Sears 140 lbs. purple orbitron weight set and bench were there, as have my Soloflex, Total Gym, and someone else's Nautilus machines, free weights, swimming pool, etc.

While others have been thinking they own my home as I have shared it with them, I have had my Total Gym. And my last two workouts:

May 6, 2021

Level 3 Squats: 1x100

Level 2 Leg Curls: 3 x 10

Level 3 Shoulder Press: 1 x 10, 1x15

Level 3 Pull Ups: 2 x 10

May 8, 2021

Level 4 Squats: 4 x 30

Level 2 Leg Curls: 3 x 10

Level 3 Pull Ups: 1 x 10, 1 x 15, 1 x 20,
1 x 15, 1 x 10

Level 3 Pull Overs: 4 x 10

Level 2 Inverted Lateral Raise: 2 x 10

Level 3 Inverted Curls: 3 x 10

Level 4 Seated Rows: 3 x 10

Level 4 Hammer Curls: 2 x 5 l/r

Thursday was rushed as we had family arriving for a Friday morning wedding. Saturday, everyone was still around so my Saturday workout was like therapy.

I have a lot of work to do on leg curls. Over the decades I have squatted and leg pressed just fine but hated leg curls. The TG, interestingly enough (I guess), has been the best leg curl device I have used.

I have been trying to add more cable exercises. Finding out which ones I like, which I do not. The seated chest press is a no go. The seated cable military press puts too much pressure on my lower back

But, the inverted curls I really like. I think I can like the inverted lateral raise as well.

Until Tuesday!

See you soon.

What a wreck Monday turned in to. I had an egg and sausage McMuffin for breakfast. Tasty. I washed it down with a mocha. Not a diet drink, but hey, I am that guy who can eat three plates of food a day, drink A Coke with lunch, and still lose. Trust me, Monday was beyond three plates.

Tuesday, today. Better, much better. I also added to my strength training habit with about 35 to 40 minutes of Total Gym. It facilitates me being able to do a lot of deep knee bends and dips. It is nice to have found an exercise medium that is not wrecking me. I can also hook my feet toward the tower and let my back decompress.

If not tomorrow, I will report Thursday.

05.19.21

I got a late start after laying around and watching Last Stand with the Governator. I have always enjoyed that movie.

Anyway, about 9:30 I got a 25-30 minute session in. I have been pushing for 2-3 workouts every week. Last week was two. This week I feel good. (The slow release morphine is doing its job. No, I am not dying, just spinal stenosis; my vertabrae are degrading, and arthritis. The best option right now, instead of surgery, is lyrica and morphine. I do get blood drawn occassionally to make sure I am not dropping Vicodin, Oxycodone, or heroin.)

On level 4 of the slide baord I did 1x120 deep knee bends, then 1x10 of jump squats,

On level 4 again I did a Super Set of pull overs 3x10. and what is called the Iron Cross, 3x10. I alternated each exercise.

I then went "upside down" and did 3x10 doing lateral raises. A very good shoulder workout.

Finally, inverted again, I did Level 3 inverted curls, 3x10.

I had a good pump and it was time for bed. I actually fell asleep pretty quick.

No S eating. Not so much. But I promise everyone, everytime I get a chance on the Total Gym Addicts Facebook page, or any other group, I push No S. It irritates the micro/macro nutrient crowd.

They say you can not exercise your way out of a bad diet. I have a bad diet. However, the new (larger) my wife bought me a month ago? is fitting more loosely. When I first started wearing it I was one notch from the last notch away from it being to small. Now I am one notch, from the last notch going the other way. I have built some room for that belt. If it keeps going in that direction, I will need to either add a notch, or get a smaller belt. If that makes any sense. I have had a hunch I have been eating less crap food, but over all I have been eating less food. I might work up the nerve to weight myself.

I have been working the Total Gym as rigorously and as often as a I feel up to it. Some weeks that means three sessions, others just two. I put as much into it as I can though.

Saturday I did the following:

05.22.21
Level 4 Squats: 1x130, plays jump squat 2x10
Level 2 Leg Curls: 2x15, 2x10
Level 3 Shoulder Press: 4x15
Level 4 Pull Up: 4x15
Level 3 Pull Overs, Lat Pull Down Biceps Curl, Super Set - alternate: 3x10
Level 4 Seated Curls: 3x8

Bose Blue Tooth Special: Candy-O, The Cars

(I post my workouts a] in a notepad written in pen. Then b] I transfer that to my workout journal at davedraper.com.)

I think I lasted about 35-40 minutes. I guess I should start timing how long I exercise. I normally go until I feel like another set or exercise are not in the cards.

With regards to food I need to get my three meals a day habit going again (obviosuly) which means I need to start breakfasting. That has been a bad habit, not eating breakfast, like this morning. Anyway, I am off for now. Everyone have a good day!

Oh it does. What feaks me out is between the various Facebook "diet" pages I peruse, and the Total Gym Addicts Facebook page (and the TRANSform Yourself a Total Gym Addicts break away group), I see a lot of disturbing trends. People exercising 1/2/3 hours a day: strength training, rebounding, very long walks, vertical climbers, etc. I notice under-eating and over training.

05.24.21

I had dinner, a burger for lunch, and before that? A chewy watermelon taffy. Take that away and the day would have been fabulous!

The workout was excellent.

I did one long set of deep knee bends on the glide board, level 4. 1x140. Then I did 3x10 of jump squats, still on the glide board.

I kept the level 4 setting and did super sets of dips and pull ups, 4x15 each.

On level 2 I did inverted lateral raises.

On level 4 again I did 4x15 seated rows.

Finally, level 3, I finished off with inverted biceps curls 4x10.

I think I will leave the board at level 4 for deep knee bends until I do 200 comfortably. I am able to do the jump squats without much back discomfort so I will keep doing those. Maybe 4x10 tomorrow. Or 3x15?

I paid $70 for a year subscription to Total Gym TV but that does not really help. I have been strength training for decades, on and off.

Everyone have a good evening.

Jon

An AM workout this morning. Six AM actually. It went OK.

Level 4 Squats: 1x150, several sets of one legged squats
Level 4 Shoulder Press: 4x10
Level 4 Pull Ups: 4x10
Level 3 Pull Overs/Iron Cross Super Set: 2x10
Level 3 Inverted Curls: 3x20

I cut the super set short after feeling twinge in my pectoral. Just being safe.

Yikes! Yeah most facebook groups devoted to weight loss or fitness seems to have some extremists and then everyone wants their results, so they copy them. It can be hard to maintain moderation sometimes.

Hello,

Some, not all, are going extreme. One fellow I have seen post was overweight, not horribly that recall, now he has landed on the other end of the spectrum. In 1984 I was hospitalized with what docs thought was cancer. Well it was not. The point being, across the courtyard from where I stayed, the a ward for eating disorders. Several times while I stared out my window awaiting my fate I would see a young lady staring out her window. I will not elaborate, but I have seen similar things again.

In my case, not so much. But I exercised this morning:

05.29.2021

AM session again.

Level 4 Squats: was interrupted at rep 42. Went back at it, I was well over 200.
Level 4 Jump squats/plyometrics: 3x10
Level 4 Dips: 5x15
Level 2 Inverted Lateral Raise: 3x10
Level 3 Inverted Curl: 3x10

Short and sweet as they say.

Yesterday was a fail, but a strange fail.

I had a McMuffin and a Mocha for breakfast. A super duper salad for lunch. I landed at home and took my afternoon, post-My Corona nap. Then I woke up, had a bag of Messin' with Sasquatch jerky, a small bowl of cherries, and three chocolate chip cookies. I was done for the day.

Odd...

Anyway, my exercise life continues. Still on the Total Gym. I really, really like it. I have also added a workout partner. A co-wroker who I have known for fifteen years. And it works great. We start with two 5 minute sets of squats on the level four. Then we do dips and pull ups, and shoulder presses, pull overs, lateral raise (or as the Total Gym trainers call it, the Iron Cross. Which I could actually do in high school...), rows, curls, you name it. I do not think I go into any workout with a plan. I think the mirror test indicates I am gaining tonus, but the mid-section, oy vey.

After a two day rest, we start again today. See you tomorrow?

I am impressed by your dedication to the strength training. I have a series of bodyweight exercises I do, from Mark Lauren's Body By You. Once or twice a week is enough for me, as it can take up to 5 days for me to fully recover. But even so, I can still feel the difference. And there is something very satisfying about mastering progressively harder exercises.

Hi Lady Bird,

I can tell a difference as well. I could feel my legs starting to crap out, and the neurosurgeon I see told me, "When they quit is when we put the three rods in your back." Then he showed me what a spinal rod was. Motivation. Three summers ago my parents and I took my daughter to San Francisco. I could barely get up and down the wharf and Pier 39. Then she (my daughter) wanted to climb the stairs to Coit Tower. Shamefully I had to tell her no. I could do it now. So keep at. Which you already know.

Yesterday was a fail. Breakfast was a Sausage McMuffin. Then my principal walked in with a Wendy's sausage/egg/cheese sandwich for everyone. I just might change allegiance to Wendy's. Then I downed a Mt. Dew and two bags of M&Ms I found in my desk.

My excuse for that is: I was carb loading for my workout. Which was:

May 8, 2021

This is what happened:

Level 4 Squats: six minutes
Level 4 Dips/Pull Ups Super Set: 3x15
Level 3 Pull Over: 4x15
Level 4 Rows: 5x10
Level 3 Inverted Curls: 4x12
Level 6 World famous Decline Sit Up: 4x10

My arms were so pumped, when I flexed, I could not shut my eyes.

See you Thursday!

Super Duper Day!?
June 10, 2021

One of those days where I just thought I did not feel like getting it done. Then the fellow who wants to start the strength training showed up. The two of us got in a pretty good session.

Level 4 Deep Knee Bends: Six minutes x 2
Level 2 Leg Curls: 4x15
Level 3 Shoulder Press: 4x15
Level 2 Inverted Lateral Raise: 4x10
Level 4 Seated Row: 4x15
Level 3 Hammer Curls: 4x10
Level 3 Inverted Curls: 4x10
Level 6 Decline Sit Ups: 1x20

It took about ninety minutes to get through it.

Level 5 Squats: 1x20, 4x25
Level 3 Leg Curl: 3x8
Level 4 Super Set:
Dips 4x15
Pull Ups 4x10
Level 4 Seated Row: 4x15
Level 4 Inverted Curls: 4x15

Forgot my Decline Sit Ups

A bit warm upstairs, even for the high desert. But made it through just the same. Certainly not as robust heat wise as workouts in the barn in the Sacramento foothills. Youth...

I know what you mean. In November I was having difficulty getting out of my car. I do not even think about it now. I am not loosing oodles of weight (obviously) but I have become, and am continuing to become, fitter. Now, if I can get my three plates of food taken care of, then I can start trimming down. The biggest problem is I have become lazy where cooking is concerned. I bought Sam Zein's, cook book, the recipes are easy, I am just to lazy to do anything about it. "Easy Vietnamese Cooking" another cookbook I have, and the recipes are prettty easy.

Last week I had an idea, and it worked. I made a breakfast sandwich with 4 sausage links, two eggs, and I slapped two slices of buttered, toasted bread. I got to work, unwrapped it, disassembled it, and had a breakfast. I need to start doing that, every morning. Bacon every so often. (Though bacon hammers my indigestion.)

Anyway, the fitness aspect is there, that is a habit (a good one), I need to get out of the habit of eating M&Ms for breakfast.

Hi! Oh, M and M's for breakfast reminds me of how I would sometimes on the way to my teaching job stop and buy a bag of Hershey's kisses and gobble them in the car in the parking lot . But that wasn't breakfast. That was a fix. Now it's been nearly 18 months since I had milk chocolate. Knock on wood.

I envy your getting fitter, though on a recent trip to England, I averaged about 12,000 steps a day without any real problems when I was wearing the right shoes. But I've been a slug since I got back.

Good luck with your plates!

I had an epiphany today. I was double fisting peanut M&M, they have protein, and I noticed I could not stand the taste. As Bugs would say: What a maroon.

Tonight's workout was:

06.17.21

Level 5 Squats: x 5 minutes
Level 4 Shoulder Press: 4x10
Level 3 Pull Over: 4x15
Level 2 Inverted Lateral Raise: 1x15, 3x10
Level 4 Hammer Curl: 3x10
Level 3 Inverted Curl: 4x10
Level 6 Decline Sit Up: 5x10

Another warm day in the valley of the mountains. I started about 7:30 PM, probably a 35 minute workout. My workout partner is in New Mexico. I told him to say hi to Walter White, he had no idea.

Everything felt pretty good this evening. The move from level 4 to 5 on legs is a big difference. I figure in 5 minutes I get 150 deep knee bends in.

See you all Saturday.

It's amazing how when you stop and taste the foods you binge on that you find you really don't like them. It's enabled me to give a lot up without feeling deprived.

Also have you considered it might be the toast with the bacon causing the indigestion. I've been eating low carb high fat for a while no indigestion. I had quite a carby and fatty meal whilst away and suffered in the night.

I eat a regular cooked breakfast no toast, no problem.

Sorry, I never lost my taste for my binge foods. I just went without until the stream went underground. I don't have to do much to keep it there, thank goodness. Except eat better quality-"real-er" food regularly. Funny how long much juggling I did along the way until I decided it was actually more fun just to just put the balls down. :)

l, almost missed Saturday evening's workout. About 9:30 - 10:00 I thought I had better drag my duff into the guest bedroom, where we keep the Total Gym and at least do some deep knee bends on it (squat). Once I started warming up I began to get with the program.

Here we go:

06.19.2021

Level 5 Super Set:
One Leg Press (L) 3x10 (R) 3x10
Jump Squat 3x10
Level 3 Leg Curl: 3x10
Level 3 Behind Neck Press: 4x10
Level 4 Seated Row: 4x15
Level 4 Seated Curl: 3x10
Level 6 Decline Sit Up: 5x10

Two days off. See you Tuesday.

IMy workouts must be more potent than I thought, I know - because of the way my drawers are fitting - I am losing some size around my mid-section.. I am not sure I should post that anywhere else, or I will get the "You can't exercise yourself through a bad diet!" I see that repeatedly. I try not to do direct chest work because my chest has a tendency to get too big, even in my ascent into my late 50's. But, the dips and pull-overs engage my whole upper body. So far though, so good.

Father's Day was quite a bonus. My wife bought me the Cyclo Trainer which attached to the end of the Total Gym. The Cyclo Trainer turns the total Gym into a recumbent bike. I need to pick up some C batteries so I can get on it this afternoon and see how it works. I have read posts from owners and they really like it.

Well, adio, see you all tomorrow.

Level 4 Squats: x 7 minutes
Level 3 Jump Squats: 3x10
Level 4 Pull Ups: 4x15
Level 3 Pull Overs: 3x10
Level 4 Seated Rows: 4x15
Level 4 Lat Pull Down: 4x15

I warmed up my legs for a minute or two on the Cyclo Trainer. The last two days have been good. Not successes, but better. No candy. Yesterday I muffed when I was not paying attention and had a bowl of cherries. Today was three meals, three plates, but I over did the mochas. The Keurig machine is pretty cool. :D

Three mile warm up on Cyclo Trainer

Level 5 Squats+Jump Squats: 3x20x10

Level 3 Leg Curl: 2x10

Level 3 Shoulder Press: 4x15

Level 2 Inverted Lateral Raise: 4x10

Level 4 Seated Row: 4x15

Level 3 Inverted Curl: 4x15

A good hour and fifteen minutes. Warming up before a session is somewhat new to me, but it was just fine. We (my workout partner/co-worker) have a tendency not to chat between exercises or sets so we go at a pretty good pace. By the time we were done I had a nice pump: legs, shoulders, lats. The lack of an extended amount of time between exercises/sets get the breathing and heart rate up pretty good.

On to Saturday.

Food is being less than an issue. I have not weighed, not wanting to jinx myself, but truthfully my clothes are fitting better. This includes the clothes I could not fit into when I jumped from a 36 to 38 waist.

Exercising is currently the one thing I have stuck to for the last six months. I did have that hiccup when I had the two Corona vaccines, but other than needing a daily nap, and still not picking up scents well (except flatulants, my students have been trying to measure my olfactory sense through that medium), I seem to be recovered from that virus.

I regards to liquid, I have been drinking more water, less diet soda, and really trying to skip sugary soda/foods since it aggravates my reflux. I forgot Wednesday night and had a bowl of ice cream at about 9:00 PM. I struggled all evening with that. That was a pooper.

Level 5 Shoulder Press: 3x10

Level 4 Seated Row: 4x15

I did not sleep last evening, I am feeling it this early evening. Though my shoulder press is coming along.

Good to hear from you Oolala. It is good to hear (read actually) from folks once in awhile. It has been fun to see the journal posts, or the forum posts, from people who have been around awhile. I notice with some, regardless if they have not lost weight, they are still here and posting.

July 6, 2021

Ten minute warm up, level 12, recumbent bike

Level 4 Deep Knee Bends: 1x100
Level 4 Leg Curls: 3x10
Level 4 Pull Ups: 3x15
Level 3 Inverted Lateral Raise: 4x10
Level 5 Seated Rows: 4x10
Level 4 Inverted Curls: 4x10
Level 6 Decline Sit Ups: 3x15

I thought I may have had a flu last week. I missed Saturday's session, was ill Sunday, and passed a stone yesterday. So, the secret was out, I had a stone. I should have paid more attention to the back pain and where it was originating. Even my pain meds (lyrica/slow release morphine) were not blunting the breakthrough pain.

But it is over. See you Thursday.

Level 4 One Leg Squat: L 4x15
R 4x15
Level 4 Leg Curl: 4x15
Level 3 Shoulder Press: 4x15
Level 4 Pull Down: 5x15

Not a lot of motivation this evening. Then, just as I was hitting my groove, all heck broke out in the backyard. We live in a somewhat rural area and people just let their dogs do whatever. Unfortunately tonight's visitor was drilled by a German engineered home safety device. After that broke up I finished. I really get irked when my workout gets interupted.

Tonight I did one leg squats, pistols I guess. Of course they were facilitated with the glide board. But, I was able to do them modified.

See you Tuesday

I'm still working on side lunges, the sort where you are supposed to finish with a sort of squat on one leg while still supported with the other extended leg. Pistols look awesome, but they are still a distant dream.

I am not sure they would be considered a true pistol since I am aided by the glide board. Maybe one leg squat is a better description. Who knows? You keep at it, you will get there.

Yes, of course, my German engineered home safety device is my German Shepherd.

Tuesday I was home alone. I am just this far (imagine me doing that thing with my fingers) from having very good No S days. But, being summer, I will grab a peach, have a hand full of cherries, or eat the heart out of a watermelon (which makes my wife very unhappy!). I guess that is all better than the student store: Big Hunk, Coke, and dozens of other tasty treats.

I am a day behind, but I did get (after I got going) a pretty good workout in Tuesday evening. The air quality, with the fires and such, is quite awful. So much so that the Grand Teton disappears in nature's smoke screen. So, Tuesday, was as follows:

July 13, 2021

Early evening, between 7:30 - 8:45. Something like that.

Level 5 Squat: 1x120
Level 3 Leg Curl: 1x15, 3x10
Level 4 Pull Over: 4x10
Level 4 Pull Down: 5x15
Level 5 Seated Row: 4x10
Level 3 Inverted Lateral Raise: 3x10
Level 3 Inverted Curl: 3x15
Level 6 World Famous Decline Sit Up: 1x40

Well I was not sure I was going to make it tonight. But, I started watching Generation Iron II, and it must have been Kai Greene, because before I knew it I was doing deep knee bends. I am going to start using free weights attached to the glide board. The weight bar attaches below my knees, so there will not be any compression. We will see.

See you Thursday.

Well, it is Thursday. I guess I should actually start exercising with a plan. Today is a set workout day. I will post later on how well it went..

Recumbent (Cyclo Trainer) Level 12 x 22 mins
Level 5 Squat: 1x30
Level 5 Squat + 40 lbs: 2x30
Level 5 Jump Squat: 3x10
Level 5 Shoulder Press: 3x10
Level 5 Pull Down: 5x15
Level 5 Decline Sit Up: 5x15

All done for this week. Two straight weeks of 3 workouts. I do need to use the Cyclo Trainer more. Today was some what leg centric, Cyclo Trainer, squats, jump squats. I am going to keep that up.

Well, everyone have a good Sunday/Monday.

I hate when I go to the doc's for my med updates and lab work to find I weigh the same as I did in December. Hmmm...maybe I should pay attention to what I shove in my pie hole. I can only imagine what my triglyceride and cholesterol numbers are going to be.

That is out of my control for the moment. This is not:

07.20.2021

Cyclo-Trainer Level 12 x 6 Miles
Level 5 Squats: 1x120
Super Set Level 4: Dips 3x15
Pull Ups 3x15
Level 4 Pull Downs: 5x15
Level 3 Inverted Lateral Raise: 4x10
Level 4 Inverted Curls: 4x10
Level 6 Decline Sit Ups: 1x50

I guess one of the perks of being able to put in a session of exercise at home, besides not having to share gym equipment, is being able to get right into a workout after out of state relatives head back to the Quality Inn for the evening.

My legs are coming along quite nice. Six miles at level 12 will not have anyone thinking I am Eddie Merckx, but each level is becoming a step to the next level.

The dips felt strong. Maybe by Halloween I will be doing dips with my full body weight. Pull ups, were OK. I just need to be able to pull myself over the chain link fence during the zombie war.

I had my doc appointment yesterday. It was time for labs. And, knowing I have just one kidney, made him make a frownie face when I said I had a brand new tub of German creatine.

Most everything is excellent. See you Thursday.

07.23.2021

I am going to have to post yesterday's physical assault on my body from memory.

Now to the important stuff:

Level 5 Deep Knee Bends: 1x150
Level 3 Leg Curl: 4x10
Level 3 Shoulder Press: 4x15
Level 5 Seated Rows: 4x15
Level 3 Inverted Curl: 4x10
Level 5 Pull Down: 5x15

One hundred fifty reps is not efficient for deep knee bends/squats. I need to remember to add the added weight on my free weight bar. But, I am building stamina. Tomorrow, the discs are on.

I was in a hurry yesterday. We had family in town. I was not sure what we were doing.

The other exercises? They are fine. Tomorrow will be hard, but I have two days off on Sunday/Monday.

I got our season tickets for the Idaho Falls Symphony's up coming season. Yeah. Live music.

Yesterday was the date on the calendar I had set up for my workout. But as early afternoon rolled in I kept feeling worse, and worse and... You know, the day you feel like you have been hit by a Cadillac.

Well, I wandered upstairs at 9:00 PM finally, looked in my pill holder, and behold, I had not taken my meds. Yea me. So I did then went to bed.

My eyes popped open this morning at about 3:45, and I figured I might as well get up and make up for lost time.

AM is not my favorite time to workout, and by the time I got into our new exercise room, it was 4:00.

I started with:

Level 5 Deep Knee Bends. I think the angle of the incline is about 18.5%. I forget what that reduces my body weight to, but it is not impressive.

Level 5 Deep Knee Bends: 1x100 (or there about)
Level 4 Shoulder Press: 3x15
Level 3 Inverted Lateral Raises: 4x10
Level 5 Seated Row: 4x15
Level 5 Lat/Bicep Pull Down: 4x15

It took be about 40 minutes. And yes, I practiced piano as well. Chopin now. An intermediate Chopin

Chopin was alway one of my favourites to play (in the days that I played), although I never got beyond the fairly easy ones. Its the sort of music that one can really let one self go in. What are you practicing at the moment?

Mazurkas... I practiced a day or two and yesterday got on you tube to listen to it. I do not know what I was playing, but it was not Chopin. That happened with Canoeing By Amy Beach. I had worked on that for what seemed like forever. One day I hunted it down on YouTube and I could only imagine Ms. Beach was spinning in her tomb. I had to spend a couple of days relearning the real melody.

I am in Phoenix. Millions of people living in the desert. I live in, and love the high desert, 5000 ft. Yet, this Palm Springs like desert here has its charms.

I could not drag my Total Gym with me. So yesterday I did 30 mins. On a Universal circuit. That has been a long time since my Universal days. The memories. AND MAN WAS I SORE! More stiff today, less sore. Again tomorrow!

When at home I am still pounding away on the Total Gym. Chuck would he pleased.

My diet? You No Sers will not be pleased. At least being out of town has removed me from the student store.

Dec 2, 2021

I have slowed down, a bit, on shoving food in my pie hole. My weight seems to have stablized. The workouts are still getting finished. This morning at 4:50 I got started:

12.02.2021

Level 5 Squats: 1x135

Level 4 Pull Ups: 4x10
Super Set
Level 4 Shoulder Press: 4x10

Level 3 Inverted Lateral Raise: 3x12
Level 5 Lat pull down/Biceps Curl: 4x15
Level 4 Inverted Curl: 2x10

I started at 4:50 AM. finished around 5:30 AM

I know most are a bit hesitant about Total Gym, including me. I do very few exercises that involves pushing unless it invovles the shoulder press, or dip. The pulling exercises I think are better. Particularly the inverted lateral raise, seated row, lat pull down/biceps curl, and the inverted lateral raise. My sessions are usually not as long as other mediums might take. The ease of transition between exercises is excellent, probably less than 30 seconds per exercise.

I keep hearing the place is shutting down, and when I drop in, it is still here. Most Excellent. The holidays were not so bad, my clothes still fit. I spent my two weeks off in my stylish pjs reading. I left home once. I ran out of juice pops. It is zero degrees out and I am eating juice pops.

A new year and I think I will set new goals, but I never do.

It has been a year since my wife had Santa drop a Total Gym XLS down the vent pipe for our pellet stove. I can honestly say I have used it 2-3 times a week since I tripped over the box Christmas morn, 2020. There is the odd week I missed, but it has become a habit. I might start adding some Diamond Dal!as Page Yoga sessions. Change things up a bit.

Well this morning I woke at five, and hopped on the Total Gym.

Level 6 Squats: regular 1x30, one leg l/r 3x5, regular 1x30
Level 5 Dips: 4x15
Level 3 Pull Overs: 4x15
Level 5 Lat Pull Down/Biceps Curl: 4x12
Level 4 Inverted Curl: 3x10

That was a lot of dips, and a heck of a pump. Arms, shoulders and my latissimus felt quite worked. We what another gear has in store.
