Joy&Balance's Daily check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Joy&Balance's Daily check-in

Post by joy&balance » Tue May 13, 2014 5:03 pm

After stopping No S a long time ago, I've decided I need to regain my sanity around food and weight issues. What better place to come to than here?

My first goal - 3 successful weeks of vanilla No S to be documented here.

Yesterday (5/12/14) was day one. (Started weighing 146.5).

Day 1: SUCCESS

First 2 S days almost over, and I feel great about where I'm at. I allowed myself a little more freedom this weekend, but didn't go too crazy. No binges.

Day 6: S-Day
Day 7: S-Day

If I can just halt the gaining with vanilla No S, I'll be happy! It is so freeing.

Welcome to the boards and exactly the way I chose to embrace the NO S days when I first started - nothing wild, just slightly more indulgent than a weekday. Much like growing up and having Sunday dessert after a nice dinner, something we didn't get every day.

Hope to get to know you better as we travel this road to health together.

I remember feeling SO relieved that I had stopped gaining weight after I started NoS. I had been moving steadily upward and it was like magic that NoS halted that gain. Cool Beans! :)

Thanks all!. Yes, this does feel magical, yet so normal - how is that possible? :D

On Sunday, I was at the grocery store and thought "Oh I could get myself a treat. It's an S day." Walked over and looked at them and didn't want one! Said to myself, "Well I'll just have ice cream later like I planned." that kind of thing never happens to me when dieting - it'a always just a struggle.

@eschano - Yes, it was great!

Day 9: SUCCESS

Yesterday I went to happy hour with some friends. they got food, and I thought hmm, do I want to make this my dinner or not? chose to wait until I got home to eat and didn't even want to nibble on their snacks - yes!

i'm also finding that my rather chronic constipation seems to be getting better - woo hoo!

Feeling awesome about 21 days with no failures! My main focus now is 1) keep going with establishing the No S habit, and 2) make the foods I eat on N days healthier. I'm going to do this by eating more whole foods on those days.

also started shovelglove this morning! Was fun and exhausting!
