Grace's Check-In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Grace's Check-In

Post by ggallimore » Wed Jul 23, 2014 5:39 pm

Hope I am doing this correctly--guess I can always delete this post if it pops up in the wrong place.

Have been doing No S for about 10 days, with about 3 failures and 4 successes, not counting S days.

Today was a success. I notice how automatic my snacking habit still is though--still requires a lot of conscious thought to avoid snacking and not to reach for sweets, particularly after a meal.

One other thought--my dad's birthday was an S day that fell on a Monday. It was hard for me to get back on the wagon yesterday after 3 S days in a row, but today shows it is doable.

Welcome!

I remember how hard it was in the beginning to remember the rules but I promise that they become automatic most of the time!

I get what you mean with 3 S days in a row. I still have the same problem to get back into it after that but once I do I pick it right up as if the fails hadn't existed.
