Lovedby2. I've decided to track and post

Realizing after about a month that I need to track and post. I am weighing 1xmonth around the 10th. I lost 3lbs my first month. I was very pleased since I have the metabolism of a slug. I am strictly a vanilla No S. Mods stress me out. I tried the Friday night thing and it wrecked me. Using that fence thing Reinhard talked about. My starting weight was 183. I am 5'3" and 59. I know I need to overcome my doubts of ever loosing the weight. So some head work needs to happen. Exercise sucks. Just sayin. But, I am attempting to do DDP yoga. I have Fibromyalgia so I wear out easy. I don't enjoy talking about myself so this is a stretch for me, but I am willing to give it a go. I am liking the N days because of the needed structure. My S days are a little wild but not off the charts. I don't count 5 donuts in two days as being horrible, but I would like to see them a little less out if control. They do make me feel a little wobbly for lack of a better word. So, I guess I will back tomorrow with less detail. I am thinking I should list my food...but it is so intimidating.

So overall this has been a good day. This is an S day for me but not off the charts. I am running fever with a chest cold.

Oatmeal
Hot tea with honey, 4 cups
Fried egg sandwich, tortilla chips
Almonds, few dried figs, slice of toast and jam
Pork chop, sweet potato, green beans, salad

This cold could go on for a while. I'm planning N days the rest of the week.

no worries. If you aren't comfortable posting something, just go with what you're comfortable sharing.

Sounds like you are off to a great start.

Welcome! And well done on your loss.

I hope posting helps you, I know it helps me a lot.

You don't have to post your food, unless you find it particularly helpful for compliance. It's a choice of some posters, not a part of vanilla No S. I've been here over 2 years and never really posted my food, except to explain a red day, or out of interest if I had a particularly delicious cake recipe to share. I also don't read food lists when others post them, as my dieting background means I find them a bit triggering (my head goes: OMG, that person only had x for breakfast!? I eat twice that, I should cut down, blah, blah).

Hi there and welcome. Good luck on your journey. I am a year older than you and I can relate well to your thread. Use it however you need to. I tend to write my food down as it makes me accountable to myself but not to others. It also reminds me when I stray way off track that I managed once and this is how I did it. But others never post food and that is fine too. This is a very friendly board so don't fear criticism. The support is great. Good luck tessy

Green day.

Other than being sick it was a good day. I haven't been sleeping well with this cold thing so I have been getting up a lot earlier than usual. I realize this makes for a longer day and so I have been hungrier because of the added wake hours. Wondering if there is such a thing as a sleep diet.

Bacon sandwich and a pear
I/2 PB&J, almonds, dried figs
Chicken, broccoli, brussel sprout, rice
Hot tea with honey

I am a Christian. Through a lot of hard work and through many years of praying, asking and trying to listen, I feel like I am in a pretty good place in regard to food. By far, this area of my life has been the tuffest to make progress in. I have done pretty well with green days only because I have progressed to what was like green days long before coming to No S. I feel a lot of empathy for those here who are just trying to get through the day without binging. I don't want to appear as though I came to the board having it together with my somewhat successful green days right off the bat and take the risk of discouraging someone else. Twenty years ago, if I was here on the No S board I would not have had many green days, if at all. I figure it has been around forty six years in this battle...but I didn't have No S. Glad to be here.

I woke up thinking I should make note of a couple of reminders for when I lose my mind over this food journey.

NEVER DIET/ triggers binging/no one can stay on a diet for 40 years (rediculous thinking)
Always eat protein in the morning because of blood sugar/food cravings
Don't wait too long to eat/causes more food cravings later
Eat enough at meals/especially hard because of past dieting head
Don't stay up late/You WILL cave and eat
Exercise/can't deal with this yet
Quit being a perfectionist/wreaks me everytime

Read often.

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I am doing exactly what you mentioned..... eating real yummy plates of food, three of them.... and not worrying about anything else. It is such freedom! I am still fighting the diet demon daily..... but the more I ignore dieting, the quieter the noise will get in my mind. One day at a time.

Green day

Bacon sandwich, dried figs, almonds, banana
1/2 PB&J
Black beans,rice, stewed tomatoes,salad
Lots of hot tea
Hot toddy

I'm starting to have a little self pity. This is day 7 in the house with a miserable cold. It definatly has been harder to not want to eat something sweet for comfort, but I have my eye on a FB recipe, chocolate, oreo, carmal something. I am making it this weekend and eating the whole darn thing.

Friday 1-30-15
Green Day

Chicken Sandwich & FF
Bag of peanuts, diet rootbeer
Pizza and salad
hot tea
coffee with cream and sugar

So glad tomorrow is an S day. It hasn't been the easiest week because of feeling off from sickness. I struggle every week on Friday night with wanting to eat a sweet treat. I hate the drama in the brain. We always stay up late and watch a movie so I have to deal with hunger. But if I eat something then it spins my brain into guilt. Not a good thing. Donuts tomorrow!!

Well done, hope you enjoy some well deserved treats this weekend.

I am big "self-pity" eater when I am sick or tired (especially both), especially something not that severe, but annoying and dragging on, like a horrid, clinging cold. It's like that little sugar burst (or caffeine burst) will get me through a few more hours or minutes of feeling crap.

If you are really sick, however, remember that Sick Days are S days - if you need to wrap up in bed with chicken soup, that is totally vanilla No S. However, I usually find that when I'm properly sick and in bed, eating is not really on my mind.

Thanks Ironchef for your wisdom and humor. Well, the weekend is over. It feels good to get back to N days for sure. They were calmer S days this weekend. Yeah! It feels like S days are enough to give a needed break but not enough to send me over the cliff. But, they do have that possibility left to themselves without the structure of N days. They do still scare me a little. I"m pretty sure this is residual panic from diet head. My fear is that this is too good to be true, that I will not loose the weight. Being on a diet forty plus years will do that to you. Failure is the expected norm. I was never one of those who could stick to a diet and loose, I just never lost. I have at times lost weight with exercise and some other major mental distraction, proving that diet head is the culprit. I still haven't dealt with the exercise thing. It is a nagging thought. Grrr.

Things I learned this weekend.

Still struggling with Friday night . Trying to decide if I should do S days Friday & Saturday. Would I then no longer be Vanilla No S? Panic. WhenI tried Friday I only did Friday night up to Sunday night. It wrecked me, over thought things way too much. Maybe all day Friday and Saturday would work.

I have decided not to track my food on the weekend but to instead give an updated report. i want to track my food on N days to see if there are patterns or problems emerging but I don't care about that on S days so much and it feels like I want to relax and take a break.

Posted: Tue Feb 03, 2015 9:00 am
by eschano
I think it's way too early to panic about S days. It took nearly 2 years for me to have them truly calm down. And what I mean by that is that I am often too full from my 1 plate of meal for a dessert. Something that needed a lot of time for me. So my now "crazy" weekends used to be good days pre-NoS. Now, that doesn't mean that these "crazy" weekends don't feel as much out of control as my first few S days did but I know that they are tame now in comparison. I still find S days challenging but I stopped worrying about them and I still lose weight, even though I met my healthy BMI goal after one year on NoS (I was overweight, not obese so didn't have too much to lose, about 20 pounds).

So my advice is: don't worry yet. Don't start messing yet. See if you are indeed losing weight (very slowly) and if you do don't worry. If you don't then have a good look at your N days before considering S days and only then start looking at them.

Monday 2-2-15 Green

Bacon sandwich, dried figs, almonds, banana
handful of almonds, one fig
Pasta primavera and salad
Hot tea

An old habit is resurfacing. I don't like breakfast so I tend to put off eating until late morning which makes me not want lunch until late or not at all. I notice when I do this I get hungry at night, which is another old bad habit of eating in the evening. So, I am trying to change this. Old habits die hard.

Is it that you're not hungry in the morning or you're not a fan of breakfast foods? Maybe do 10am, 2pm, and 6pm for meals? I WISH I could wait til 10:00! But my little one gets up at 6am...and I'm starving by 8:00 :)

Had a failure! But the really good news is I didn't pull the plug and pig out. In the past I would let a slip give me license to eat the rest of the day. I had too light of a lunch and started dinner late so I scarfed a handful of chips, but that was it! So, I am very happy about the recovery. This proves that No S builds self control along the way. Knowing this is a life long program...and that the weekend is coming, yeah, I can get right back on the horse.

Bacon sandwich, orange
Tortilla soup, sweet potato biscuit
Scrambles eggs, broccoli, toast, salad

Well done you for not "crashing the car" after one handful of chips dented your fender :) That's one of my favourite things about No-S: you're only ever one meal away from being a success!

On S days - I totally agree with eschano. Seriously, give it 6 months first. I don't know if you've listened to / read any of Reinhard's podcasts? They're all great, but "S-days Gone Wild" is a good one if you're worried about the weekends.

On eating times - No S doesn't tell you when to eat. It also doesn't tell you number of meals; everyone assumes 3, but I know of a few posters who do 2 sometimes. My husband is another one who feels sick at the thought of food first thing. He just has a cup of tea then waits for an hour or two before food. Nothing wrong with 9:30 - 2 - 7:30 as meal times if you prefer. It is helpful when trying to build habit to try to have meals at regular times, so your body/brain gets used to feeling "mmm, dinner time!" at certain times and not at others.

Two things I changed that made me hungrier for breakfast: 1. Started No-S so stopped snacking / eating late at night and 2. Started walking my dog first thing. I'm always hungry after that brisk walk, and it is great to have exercise "ticked off" first thing in the morning.

Absolutely true on all accounts.

My mealtimes are 9.00 - 12.30 - 19.30. Whatever works for you. Wosnes does only 2 meals (I hope that is right) and I recommend having a small breakfast if it's closer to your lunch but a normal lunch. Sometimes, I only have a piece of fruit or two for breakfast.

Thank you so much Eschano and Ironchef. I really appreciate the wisdom. Working on stuff, like eating at regular times in the system is enough for me. I have some really bad habits of not eating meals out of fear but then snacking which turns into binging. Eating way too late in the morning (afternoon). Staying up late which leads to eating. I now eat breakfast but need to make it consistently earlier which has eliminated the snacking. My husband started a new job back in November which requires him to rise early. We go to bed by 10:30. This has, by default, eliminated the late night snacking. No S has given me structure, which I need desperately. Breaking old habits are HARD, but I feel more in control and that is so wonderful...now about exercise. Sigh....

One of the best pieces of advice I read on here early on was not to try to fix everything all at once. Concentrate on setting up a good regular habit of 1-plate meals at times that suit you. Once that is habitual and feels easier, then worry about the next thing (e.g. exercise). I really like the concept of willpower as a muscle - it does become stronger if you use it, but it will get fatigued and be unable to perform if you demand too much all at once.

Even though I "technically" only ate 3 times yesterday I am counting it Red. I want to post this for future reference. Two weeks with a very bad cold set off a Fibromyalgia flare up. I didn't realize it because I thought it was symptoms from the cold and it is a new diagnosis, so I am learning. I am full blown into it now and feel like cow dung. (shit) Yesterday was the straw and I had a not so good eating day. I wouldn't say I overate, I just ate without any structure or thought. I ate like I used to eat. Since I am trying to change from that to structured meals I count it as a fail. Don't feel right about counting it as an S and definitely not a green. Mark it and move on. That is what I am trying to do. I'm glad to be here.

Roast pork sandwich really late which set off taking the meds that make me feel better...stupid and habitual
5 Almonds
Oatmeal made with milk which I somehow forgot that dairy is not my friend. A new discovery...stupid and habitual
Three pieces of toast with butter and jam at 11:30 PM. Another bad habit of eating before bed which makes me sick the next morning.

Sigh...the biggest habit I need to overcome is thinking about what I am doing and the consequences, all of which, in the past, have harmed my health. Dugh. No S is sooo good for me. It gives me the structure I need. Now I just need an alarm that goes off when I stray. In my case staying on task is needed even on not so good feeling days.

Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time with your health. As you so rightly say, you are still learning, both about managing your health and your No S habits. I hope you feel better soon.

Also, everyone's habits are dumb; habits are routines we perform thoughtlessly - otherwise they wouldn't be habits. So, yeah, you can call a habit "stupid" (every habit is), but don't apply the negative label to yourself.

I understand what you mean Ironchef about the stupid comment and I agree. Still, isn't stupid doing the same thing over and over and thinking you will get a different result? Oh yeah, I think it's suppose to be insanity is doing the same... So I guess I'm in sane, not stupid. Ahh, I feel better. My humor is tongue and cheek, so I am really poking fun at myself. I really do appreciate your comment though and all your wisdom. :D

Eschano, I know. How and why food can become so complicated in our lives is beyond me. We are in the right place though. No S is very, for lack of a better word, therapeutic for people who misuse food. At least I think so.

Wow you have been having a tough time between the cold and the fibromalgia! I think you are doing so well.

I hope your trip with your mum is going well. I also have a naturally thin mum who can eat whatever and whenever and seemingly never gain anything! It is most annoying. But the interesting thing for me is that she sees the sense in No S and has started following it herself.

Like you I have never been an exercise fan. Start super small - every day at the same time do something - walk to the end of the drive / ride a bike / whatever appeals. If you do that for 2 / 5 min then decide are you up to more if not that is fine, you have done what you set out to do. If you do do more then it is just a bonus!

Have a super day!

I live with a naturally slim person who loves his food - my husband. No S is a very non-intrusive way to manage around someone like that.

The key for me has been letting go of "but he can do it, it's not fair". He'll eat a bunch of stuff that I don't on N days, but he'll also sometimes just not eat. He's an interesting example, but I know he is the exception, not the rule, and I try not to focus on what he does or doesn't eat. I've also gotten very good at a polite "no thank you" when he offers me the cheese/olives/crackers & dip/icecream that he is snacking on.

Good luck with the next few weeks, you are spot on that No S is adaptable and non-intrusive in most situations, which is part of what makes it so humane.

I have been trying to break an old habit that has been the biggest contributor to weight gain over the years while doing No S. That is staying up late at night, which leads to eating. I should be tracking this now that I think of it. I am sort of on vacation. I drove my mom here to see family and friends and I am helping my sister with her house. Last night I stayed up until 1:00 AM looking at ideas on the internet, kind of like now. Anyway, I predictably had a fail. I mean it had been 6 hours since I had eaten, what did I expect? It reminds me that going to bed at a reasonable hour makes for success. Chocolate no less. If your going to fail, make it worth it!! Lindor Truffles!!

A little funny business going on the last couple of days. Although I have stayed green with my three plates, I feel I have been eating a liitle more than usual and a little pass my comfort level. Not pigging out but a little too full. Making a note here and keeping an eye on it.

Bacon, breakfast bread, orange, hot tea
Fajita bowl,Lemonade, coffee with cream and sugar

I am close to your age (almost 59) and I have followed No S for over 4 years. I am 60 lbs lighter than I was when I started. I still love No S and hope you find success here too. I do not post as much as I used to, but posting helps me, especially when I feel I am getting off track.

Good luck!

I have been slack on listing my food because I am decorating my sister'a house. The great thing is that it has kept me so busy I have been staying green, most of the time. Friday and Saturday were S days for me which were kind of wild but not crazy.

Hello! Sorry I did not answer your post on my check in until now. I have been very busy and have not checked in.

In answer to your questions, I lost the first 45 lbs. on Vanilla No S without any other restrictions. It took me a year. However, I increased my exercise quite a bit as well. I also have always tried to make healthy choices as often as possible as long as it does not sacrifice good taste or leave me hungry. I refuse to eat anything I do not like.

I then sort of settled in at that weight for years 2 and 3 of No S. I needed to lose 25 more to be at a normal BMI, but I felt pretty good where I was. In year 4, I started to gain. That was a wake up call. It was then that I started using Fitness Pal to track my food and exercise. I did it for about 6 months and lost what I had gained plus 16 more pounds. This is the longest sustained tracking that I have done in my life. With the new technology, I learned a lot about my habits and about nutrition that are helping me now to keep that 16 pounds off. I do not have any specific restrictions. For example, I stick with chicken or fish as often as possible but splurge on beef when the mood hits. I eat vegetables and fruits often, but I pick the ones I like.

I need to lose 9 more pounds to get to a normal BMI. I may not get there this year. This may be another maintenance year, and that is okay. Taking the more relaxed No S approach has been very successful for me. I enjoy food so much more now than I did before No S when I was a permasnacker every evening.

rjean Thanks for posting. This is just what I needed to read today. I had determined at the beginning of 2015 that I was that going to do this for a year; No mods, no worries, just do it and see where I end up. But I was starting to waiver. Thanks for the encouragement.

Unbelievable!!! I just returned last night from Florida. A three week trip turned into an almost six week adventure. I just got so intrenched in the project i was doing for my sister I was too exhausted to post. Most nights I was working until midnight decorating, painting and organizing her whole house. It was incredibly fun and exhausting. Here I am back home today recovering. I am glad to be back and looking forward to a familiar routine. I have to admit though that there is always a let down when coming back to reality. Sigh.

My No S has been pretty good. I stayed green most days and didn't over induldge on S days. I was looking forward to weighing because I haven't weighed in 2 months. To my great disappointment I have not lost any weight. I did a lot of physical work in Florida so I am concerned about why I am still at the same weight. I am hoping it is not because of a new medication that has a possible side affect of weight gain. I am trying to not get depressed over this, but it is really hard. I simply can't go back to dieting. Anyway, going to start posting again and recording my food and see what happens the next couple of weeks.

Hi, Lovedby2,
Just wanted to drop by and offer the encouragement, that you were out of your home environment for 6 weeks and didn't gain any weight! I know you'd have preferred to lose, but for me being in a different environment inevitably leads to weight gain.
Also good on you for keeping to habit! It sounds like a fun and very worthwhile trip to help your sister and it's great that you didn't get derailed from NoS habits. I hope you can start to see the results you want, when you get back to posting and recording your food again.
Best wishes!

Sorry about the no weightloss situation. It took me over a year on NoS before I really starting losing weight. I needed time to get those habits down solid before I was really ready to start tweaking things. I have a lot more to lose but finally getting some good results.

You may just need to give yourself a bit of time too!

Best of luck!

I've posted a response to you on the main page, but wanted to reply here - whenever I am out of my home, I tend to gain. Eating out, fast food, social eating, lack of control over my meals, all these contribute for me. It is only since No S that I have maintained while on vacations and road trips. Maintaining in this situation is actually a really positive outcome, even though I know it doesn't feel like it right now.

I would suggest taking a month or so at home in your regular routine before looking for more "sinister" causes behind your weight maintenance.

Hi Lovedby2.. I found you in a search for tea and hunger...

not that that's what your page is about... but i had to return the favor of you having posted on my daily checkin.

i notice you eat lots of bacon sandwiches... right on... i really can relate with that appetite. and noS allows for that.

do you cook it up or buy the cooked kind? i know that the raw kind are tastier. imo

anyway just thought i'd post on here and see what's up.

thanks again for your fun attitude... keep up on noS.

later. abelincoln

btw looks like you balace it with a lot of fruit... something I need to get myself to try

Loved the bacon comment Abelincoln!! I like the raw bacon for sure.
Today was a good day. My attitude is better and I am feeling somewhat normal after that exhausting trip to Florida. I am moving towards somewhat accepting this overweight place I find myself in. Not accepting in the scence of not doing anything about it but more about accepting my limtations instead of wrestling with this everyday of my life. My life is passing by and one day it will end. I could see myself consumed by this until I die. I don't want to do that. Maybe it is better to say that I am working on putting this weight thing in it's proper place. So what are my limitations you say? My age. I am 59 so it will be harder to get the weight off. My health, I need to remember that I have low thyroid and Fibromyalgia. I have days that those conditions will affect my energy level. Those are things I need to put into the equation and accept that is may be harder and longer for me to get the weight off. I feel good though. I feel happy and relaxed about my eating. That is success as someone here pointed out. I think No S is a God send. If the weight never comes off I am better for having found this and applying the principles. Yep, it was a good day...I even went for a walk. :-)

What a beautiful update. I'm glad you're feeling some peace from getting back to your normal routine, and that the No S structure is helping you relax. To me, the return of a sane relationship with food has been the biggest gift.

And well done on the walk!

My update for Thursday got away from me. I had a small fail on Thursday.I stayed up late which is my worst habit in regard to weight control. I think this is where I should put more focus. My old habit is staying up late which always leads to eating. We eat around 6:30 so by 11:30 on I am hungry again. Hellooooo. Not a big news flash here. Just need to work on that. I am not stressed about it. It was only a few pretzels. There are stories floating around my family that even as a small child, five or so, I already had a reputation of wanting to stay up! So this is a tuff one for me. I believe this has been the biggest contributor to my weight gain. So, I think I am going to make some adjustments to my posting and Habitcal. I think I am going to include going to bed habits in habitcal and I think I may stop listing my food and just post my behavior more. Off we go!!

I had 2 really good cookies after dinner. I should have put them away after my S day, but there they remained. I won't make that mistake again.

I've been doing some evaluating here and feel I am doing pretty well with my habits of No S. I regret to say that I am unable to avoid the exercise oomponent of this approach. Sooooo, I will be posting in my habitcal and here whether or not I complete 15 minutes of walking M-F and whether I go to bed on my N days when I am suppose to. These are by far my worst habits and I feel greatly contribute to my weight issue. I hesitate to even write this for fear of failing. But, I am going to.

well I too dont want to post my failures this month.... havent decided yet.

exercise is good.

take a page from reinhard
do what you can
its really simple as that. maybe one day the diet will carry you or vice versa with the exercise.

I felt bad today seeing everybody exercising and I failed to.

but good luck...

It's great that you've identified staying up late as a key habit that is undermining you. One thing I will recommend when trying to change a habit is try to understand the payoff - what is it you get out of staying up late? Understanding the reward might help you change the habit. For example, for me, the late evening (after my son is asleep, dishes are done, etc) was the only time of day that felt like "my own". By recognising this, and working some "me time" into other parts of my routine, I've been able to wean myself off the late nights (mostly).

Don't let fear of failing hold you back. Everyone fails. We have red days, lazy days, off days. And then we get back up and try again. You know one of the best predictors of success: how many times you've tried. Plus, I figure if I plan to walk every morning and then miss a few days that's still better than not planning to walk and therefore not doing any days at all.

Best of luck with your new habits!

I am a little afraid to admit it on here but the trouble I have with sleep is so much that after I get the kids to school and then some chores/exercise I usually take a 20 to 40 minute nap sometimes even for an hour but if I do anything longer then it counts as a failure

the most I would ever rightfully sleep in a day is 10 hours there are times I go over and times I am under

Interesting that you bring up sleep, because just this morning I was listening to the podcast Progress Not Perfection, hosted by Alen Standish. It was episode 52 and his guest was Tim Pychyl from the iProcrastinate Podcast. Right at the end of episode 52, Tim was talking about sleep procrastination, and understanding the payoff of going to bed earlier and how the future self benefits from it. It's probably in the last five minutes of the episode, and definitely worth a listen if it's something your struggling with. Sleep problems are miserable, I understand where you're coming from.

It was such an encouragement to wake up this morning and see all your thoughtful posts! I have taken something away from each one. Thank you.

Well, let's see yesterday...3-21-15

Green - No S
Green - walked 15
Green - went to bed at 11:00 I did sleep in late, 10:30 which threw my whole day off. I guess I need to work on not only going to bed but getting up too. One step at a time. Or maybe it's better to just chop the whole head off at once! I am working on going to bed, thinking getting up will follow, but I am not sure and will have to see. Probably not, it sounds like funny business to me. Sigh. Habits are ridiculously hard to change. I will count this as green because I went to bed, but it won't be long and I will have to start counting that morning get out of bed time too.

You are so funny and it's probably true...you will be looking for green in the a.m. ! I too have made a point of going to bed at a decent hour and I had also found that...much to my dismay.... that I wanted to sleep in. I read that if you haven't been getting enough sleep your body is still craving that time to heal and repair from it's daily grind. I am on day 38 ( with a few mishaps) and it's really just been the last week or so that I have started waking up at a decent time! Have a nice day Lovedby2 !

Abelincoln, have you ever tried Meletonin? Worked wonders for me. If I have had too much sleep I notice I have a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep. Another reason to have regular sleep bed times. Duh. Maybe that is why you feel sleepy during the day. You may not be getting restful sleep Have you had a sleep test? You may have Sleep Apnea. I was tested and I do have it. Something to think about.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling the best. Hope you get well soon.

My best friend is an intermittent insomniac, and she said keeping both her retiring and waking times fairly consistent helped. She's a very driven person, so she also has a target of stopping doing stuff on her "to-do" list at least one hour before her planned retiring time, as you can't expect to go from "whirlwind, getting everything done" mode to sleep mode instantly. I follow the same rule, but with electronics - I try not to be using a phone, TV or computer wtihin an hour of when I'm hoping to sleep.

hi lovedby2 oddly enough I have tried melatonin and the sad part is it was probably when I was 15 or 16 maybe even younger yes I know what a strange child to have taken melatonin and at that time.

after i'd taken it, perhaps in too large of doses, I had read that it would not be good for young people so I guess I'm sort of scared away from it now knowing that I had used it perhaps improperly dosage wise at a young age.

i would probably consider it, but i already take a highly sedative medicine and my main way of getting to sleep is not sleeping so much.

i guess i'm fine when i do that.

just have to make myself do it.

I had problems sleeping too. And I am hesitant to suggest things because all things work different for different people, but I just followed the protocol Julia Ross uses in the Mood Cure (https://www.moodcure.com/pdfs/Townsend- ... e.docx.pdf), using Seriphos and Lactium. My issue was waking at 2-4 PM, apparently from high cortisol spike. This was going on for about 6 months for me. There is a protocol for those that have a hard time falling asleep too. I have been doing this for three weeks and it's been a game changer for me. I was so desperate, I spent hours and hours googling how to keep from waking up/how to sleep better. I was reassured by the reviews on Amazon of Seriphos and Lactium (actually called Women's Anti-Stress Formula, but can absolutely be used by men as well). I now go to bed every night at 9 and wake up at 5-5:30 ready for the day. I still have some light waking periods, but I fall asleep quickly. Another plus is that I don't use the bathroom at night anymore either! I was going anywhere between 1-3 times per night previously. Just throwing that out there, wishing you the best!
