First S day for a while. Not sure how to play it. I really don’t want to go down a slippery slope. Maybe one non sweet snack each day?

2 children’s birthday parties to negotiate as well this weekend.

I should add that there were tears involved at times, too. Isn't it amazing how long we can be in pain, yet not accept the sometimes pain of resisting the urge?

Not that you're dealing with that now. Long may it continue as is!

Hello again. I went on holiday and had a Lovely time but lost it again with no S. the good news is that I don’t weigh any more than I did on 4th of July when I had my inspiration to try again. The bad news is I have another ( brief) holiday to go on the week after next and am thinking there is no pint starting till after that which I know is flawed thinking.

I am also seriously considering going back to Slimming World for the accountability but I want to be able to eat sandwiches for lunch and full fat yoghurt and avocado without counting it as Syns.

I know that my biggest problem is sugar addiction and mindless snacking so how can I stay motivated with no S?

Here am I to shout out do not go on to this "slimming world" you mention -- if it makes you eat fewer avocados and full-fat dairy?! YIKES!!! That is anathema in my book.

NoS is the cure for mindless snacking, that's for sure and certain! And you could combine it with low carb in order to kick the sugar addiction. I love the website Dietdoctor.com They have a whole video series on sugar addiction.

And we will help you with accountability!

Hi Nettee - what is it about holidays that makes No S too hard? Is it the travelling, different food, constant temptations, lack of usual daily routine? Or are holidays a chance for freedom from the usual restrictions?

Planning ahead may help. So could a decision to stick with some of the easier rules eg 3 meals a day, but have any treats that come up with meals.

I have found that complying with the structure of No S and practising ordered eating stopped the mindless snacking and overeating. It also enabled me to cut out sugary junk food and eat a healthier diet.

I will say this again - it was't a decision to cut out sugar that enabled me to do No S and stop out of control eating - it was a decision to stick with 3 meals a day etc that enabled me to cut out eating junk.

Hello

Thanks for your responses. I have done ok with no S on holidays in the past. As you say it is all in the planning. Maybe I was too close to my restart this time and not committed enough.

I have been reading the blood sugar diet today. Not sure that 800 cals per day would be doable even if it is only for 8 weeks but some of the Mediterranean diet which is also in the book does sound sensible. The limited carbs sounds hard. The problem is I don’t think I could convince my family to switch to bulgar wheat etc instead of pasta and potatoes.

Posting on here is good for accountability as long as I do it.

How 'bout just you skip the taters and let your family eat them all? (and cook less of them overall).
When I make spaghetti for the kids now, I just pull out some of the ground beef and add spices, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, onions, etc. and my husband and I eat that. Kids still eat the regular spaghetti. It's the only meal I do something weird like that -- most of the time I still prepare the kids' carbs but smaller amounts and I just skip those. But spaghetti. Oh my. Kids gotta have their spaghetti.

Have fun on vacation!

Sounds like a good idea. I have successfully no s’d And low carbed today. Currently feeling weak all over but not hungry. Hoping this is a temporary sugar withdrawal or something.

I also did a 7 minute work out app this morning.

Glad you felt better today! When we cut out processed foods, sometimes we also end up with really low sodium (compared to our processed food diet) -- so you might try upping the salt a bit if you feel crummy. But sounds like today you felt good.

Thanks for that advice. I have been a bit cautious on the salt but I am sure I could not add more than I have probably been eating before. I think I will go for salted porridge for breakfast today as I have been feeling quite dizzy so maybe need a bit of a whole grain carb boost.

I have lost 4.5 lb already though.

I’m sticking with it and beginning to feel better than I was. It does seem like quite an extreme diet though. Quite a departure from no S.

Hi Nettee!

Glad that you are feeling better but I didn't realize you had decided to go with the 800 calorie diet? That does seem rough for the long-term. Are you following NoS but just eating three tiny meals?

I was reading back through your posts to get to know you a little better -- I am so sorry that your son got hurt. I'm not sure what happened but my heart goes out to you.

Take care -- happy S Day!

Hello, thanks for your reply. My son is doing really well now and playing rugby tomorrow!

I am not doing 800 calories (best thing I leaned in no S is not weighing or counting anything). I am still sticking with the whole grains instead of pasta, bread, rice and potatoes and after the first week or so I have been feeling fine. I have lost half a stone! Trying not to snack and mostly suceeding. Still fine without seconds and of course no sweets allowed!

I am wondering about whether to do something like S days. I know how much I can eat on them though so it is a bit tricky. I was thinking about having roast potatoes on a Sunday and then maybe S events such as a meal out etc on special occasions.

Proper melt down s day yesterday. Out for an Italian this evening. Back on it on Monday I guess.

I think it is really important to have your s days, just the act of giving yourself permission to indulge will help long term. It's when things are forbidden that we crave and then binge

I echo what Soprano said.
S days should be guilt-free.

Nette, I don't know how much time of the past two years or so you have been really practicing No S. If it has been a fair amount of the time, I very much understand being miffed with S days. It might not be guilt, just an acknowledgement that you want S days to be moderate, i.e., SOMETIMES. I wish I knew the answer. If I'm honest, I just about always wish I'd eaten less on my S days, and I weigh a bit less than I did when I graduated from high school. For me, it just boils down to accepting that I'm going to be uncomfortable at some point" will it be when I want something and don't eat it? or later when I wish I hadn't? These days, regret is winning.

Hugs.
