Yellowtulips Check In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Day 4: 12/7/19 :D I was not an Idiot, but did enjoy sweets.
Day 5: 12/8/19 :D I was not an idiot, enjoyed pizza...including seconds.
Day 6: 12/9/19  Oh dear...cookies...from the good baker at work....did not go crazy...but did eat 2 wee circles of sweetness with lunch. Darn the holiday season...She has masterminded a cookie swap at the office luncheon, why oh why did she bring these in today??? Of course, she did not force feed me, did not even offer beyond the 'I've put cookies on the table, enjoy...' I must take ownership of this lapse myself.

I am heartened by all the many, many folks on this board who have never had a month without an  or 2, but still be very successful in setting new boundaries with food and weight loss....

Onwards.

Hi yellowtulips, I'm not saying you shouldn't strive for perfection, but I've had good results at about 80% compliance. Even Reinhard probably has his red days. Merry Christmas on the 21 day plan. p.s. cookies are my downfall too. -fresh baked--no chance.

It's often not the little slip that has an impact but what you do after. Straight back on it and you'll sometimes get away with it. :)

It is true the 'little slip ups' are not what make us fail (unless it is day after day after day). I have gotten back on the pony and doing OK. I've added a couple more S days for December as holiday parties schedules have been set--and all are luncheon events. I've also decided to focus on 3 meals with no seconds. One cookie with a lunch will disqualify me for 21-day club, but certainly does not mean I'm an utter failure. Not that day-to-day scales mean much, but I have remained steady and even slight loss so far this month. So goal is to get through the holidays no worse for wear and just sticking with 3/1 habit. That is the essential one. From there all else follows.
