Glad to be back!

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Glad to be back!

Its been a good long while since I've checked in. I am re-committing to NoS because temperance is a virtue that I really need to develop. I struggle with gluttony, swinging from extreme to extreme. I diet strictly for a short period of time, then go back to gluttony...I recognize that gluttony leads to many other vices such as: talking too much (loquaciousness), alcoholism, vanity, despair, selfishness, greed, jealousy...etc

I have many blessings in my life and I want to live more peacefully and gratefully with my family. I want to teach my three little children good habits by example.
Here is a basic rule of life that I think is reasonable:
1. Pray each day after waking up (7am)
2. Coffee/quality time with my husband
3.Read, make art, play with my kiddos
4.NoS
5. 14 minute workout or family walk
6. Daily chores
Current weight 150lb (height: 5ft 8in)
Goal 135lb

FWIW, my personal belief is that dieting is the cause of, not the cure for, gluttony. However, dieting never made it on to the list of 7 deadly sins.

Good luck.
Three meals a day - not too little not too much, but just right

I think that restriction causes rebelling (gluttony) but that also foods that were created to not play fair with our hunger/fullness cues. Learning how to include all foods but at the same time paying attention to hunger & fullness & having gentle boundaries that help keep you from overdoing it on those foods is what I love about No S (:

Thanks for the great responses!! :)

Success so far...it was a bit easy because I took an S day on day two in order to celebrate my daughter's birthday!

Our home life has been quite hectic lately: my mother-in-law has moved in to our 2 bedroom house, my husband's job is crazy as is mine due to the repercussions of Covid-19, I have 3 (sweet, healthy!) children under the age of 5. Not eating emotionally has been very helpful in terms of maintaining some interior peace. I have many, many blessings and I am trying to express gratitude everyday and to live lovingly and positively.

I have 5 green days in a row, which is a big deal...small changes matter Hugely! Thank you:)

Welcome!

Although I have to laugh (at myself) because your initial post got me all triggered! Your list of all the things you want to do made me feel rebellious and remember the difficulties of raising little children. I think sometimes we moms try to be perfect. Now, in my 40's, I'm becoming the true rebel/selfish mom.... or something.

I'd add one thing to your list  SLEEP! :-)

Thank you automatedeating!

I also have to laugh at myself! I am the most scattered person out there and I'm always writing goals for myself that get totally sidetracked or that are impossible! Yes, sleep sounds good...is there a time when sleep happens again??lol

I just like this NoS thing because it's simple and not too rigid...and I feel like it helps me maintain at least a semblance of self control!

Also, I've really enjoyed eating this week. I've enjoyed looking forward to meals because I'm actually hungry. I've felt less inflammation in my body too because I'm not eating so much sugar between meals and late at night. I've lost 5 lbs! (Although I'm trying not to obsess about the weight...I breast feed my baby around the clock and my body has gone through so many changes!!)
Thanks for listening NoS community:)

Someday you'll sleep enough - but yeah, it's a rough road in those baby years!

In fact, I'd wager that a GREAT deal of your typical sugar between meals is a) to keep you awake because you're exhausted; and b) to cheer you up because your life is not easy. No easy solution but prioritizing your sleep and your own personal interests can go a long way toward easing the sleep deprivation and the constant mom-role.

As far as NoS goes, success...and let me say that I needed a "win" somewhere because life has been very difficult for the last 2 weeks! I know I'm in good company though...I am thinking of the hardships that so many people are enduring right now and I am offering up all my pains with yours right now.

My mother-in-law moved in....my husband is working from 6am til 10pm everyday this week including weekends to make ends meat...my children are emotional and needy because they aren't getting enough sleep and because I've been emotional too...
Maintaining peace in the home is new for me. Being moderate is a new behavior. I generally behave like a feral cat when life gets tricky. This NoS thing is like a portal into a whole new way of life. Just because things are not currently ideal does not mean I have to have an extreme reaction..here's what I want to say to my M-O-T, "GET OUT"....I want to eat brownies all day...I want to start drinking at 9am!

The mother-in-law. Wow! Well, perhaps you can take advantage of this situation to get out of the house for a walk by yourself every day (or maybe just bring the baby if the baby is easy in the stroller). Better yet, maybe you can take a nap with the baby every day while your mother-in-law watches the other two. I highly recommend earplugs and a fan to drown them out so you can actually fall asleep. Oh, and an eye mask.
