SoDakgirl weekly check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Started this once before and got de-railed when we moved. Turning 50 next year and want to be healthy and happy for many more years.
5'6" and 164.4 lbs. today. Exercise has been good; eating has been okay. Definitely need that piece of gum or glass of milk mid-afternoon just about every no-S day.

Welcome back. It doesn't seem to me that a piece of sugar free gum would qualify as a snack to give a red mark? I've worked a few times in Watertown, SD. Loved their art museum.

If you fly over S.D. at night, the lake at Watertown looks like a goldfish cracker from above. No, I am not counting the gum or even the milk as a red mark. Weight is actually up this week to 167.1. Disappointing but it's a long game, not a short game. I think this week I will focus on whether I am piling my plates too high, bit of a hoarding instinct. Exercise went really well this week. Got in a beautiful hike with my family yesterday and some rollerblading earlier in the week.

Okay, back down from the 167 to 165.4. Not a big deal, but I am keeping track. Went off the rails one day this week and had 4 oreos after dinner on a no-S day, but oh well! Working on it every day. Exercise will get more challenging as the weather turns - until there's enough snow for cross country skiing!! Looking forward to that.

Thanks! Trying to get outside as much as possible. My work has been at home since March 13 and not going outside makes life feel a bit closed in.
And I went off the rails a bit last week! Had a big hearing for a client and worked evenings and just didn't have the extra gumption to exercise or say no to the sweets. But my weight was down a few pounds to 162.3 - go figure. Back on track this week with a great hike in about 25 degree weather yesterday.

Okay, new month, new chances to succeed! Halloween candy got me last week. Some good hikes in the books with a combination of snow and leaves on the ground, so pretty. Weight back up to 163.4. I will just keep on chugging away. Election day, covid cases skyrocketing in my state, kids in school 2 days a week and wondering whether to pull them out. Lots and lots of stress. The only thing to do is put one foot in front of the other.

Hey there - hope you start to feel better. And yes, keep putting one foot in front of another! I am convinced that I need to focus on what I can control and let go or accept what is out of my control, as a method to manage anxiety in these troubled times. Easier said than done.
