Tink's Check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Well so far so good, this will be my second day of No Scales. . I have to say what an accomplishment for someone who weighed in every morning; well to be honest sometimes it was morning and night!! I will not let the scale decide how I feel about myself anymore. *step away from the scale*

Day 26 of No S and day 4 of no scale. SUCCESS!! ( so far) I feel like I may have lost some weight, so why do I not trust me and my feelings? Why do I feel I need reinforcement from a scale? If the number matched how I feel I would of course be happy, but if my loss is there but not enough to show up yet if you know what I mean; I would be discouraged, I just need to believe in me and hope my body follows my mind LOL

You ARE a success!

I was re-reading some of Reinhard's book last night and he seems real big on the fact that weight loss is slow. I actually SAW that instead of just reading it. You are gaining power over this awful addiction to dieting.

Go Tink, Go!

Enjoyed my weekend, had a few snacks (not like i used to). We went out eat Saturday and i ordered guilt-free Chinese food and it tasted great! I couldn't finish it all and left it behind!!! The other thing i surprised myself with is I never even finished off all my treats...one cookie satisfied me one day and Sunday a few nibbles of my chocolate truffle was almost too much :o WOW
I find Monday and Friday's the most difficult day's to stay off the scale, i feel fat on Monday's :( I just have to concentrate on how much my habits have changed and that is what counts,,, :)

Last nite it seemed much harder to stay OP. I think it was because of Monday's celebration and being sad after dropping my son off at the airport :( I know before NoS i would have consoled myself with mindless munching; food was defiantly calling my name last nite, but i stayed strong;drank water and chewed ice instead!!!! Thank you Reinhard for giving me the power to distinguish my actual hunger from eating to cover up my emotions.

That is so awesome to mentally choose to make that change in your behavior. I'm very thankful for the NoS behavior gates.

Thank you Resting for the Birthday Wishes :-)

Day 48 of NoS !!!
I used to believe i was enjoying all the food i was eating. I used to believe i HAD to snack to keep my metabolism up. I used to believe i HAD to buy special food to loose weight. I used to believe the numbers on a scale actually meant something (was Tink good or bad).
I actually am enjoying my food because i am not spoiling my appetite with constant grazing. I look forward to my meals and DO enjoy them!
Junk food tastes JUNKIE  I haven't stepped on the scale so I get to decide if i am good or not and guess what I am!!! :D

Hey Tink,

Isn't it wonderful how we all very naturally end up heading in the same direction? Smaller plates, more movement, etc. and it isn't a painful process. WooHoo! This is actually enjoyable-when was the last time any one said THAT about a diet.

Well yesterday was a success; smaller portions, and got in my 30 minute walk after dinner :)
I woke up this morning fairly hungry and i must say after my 45 min workout i really enjoyed my breakfast. :)
2 eggs and sausage with toast and coffee! (cut out my hash-browns )
lunch will be chili with a salad; my late dinner will be soup and crackers.
If i get hungry i will just drink my water and chew on ice chips!

I never would have believed a "diet" could change my life in so many positive ways. I really enjoy my 3 meals everyday yet i am not obsessed with food. I can not eat sweets like i used to; i actually only ate half a peanut butter klondike bar this past weekend and put the rest back in the freezer and i may or may not have the other half this weekend! :o I no longer step on the scale to "see" how i feel :o Hubby and i took a leisurely walk after dinner and we had a nice chat along the way! :D I am going to start putting all the money i used to spend on snack food for coffee breaks in jar everyday and see how fast it adds up

Thank you Blueskighs :) I had a great weekend, spent most of it so busy i didn't have time to snack much if any! Sunday i only had one sweet ! :o Oh yes i weighed in June 1 and down 4 pounds!! :D Considering i am eating regular meals; and having desserts and snacks on weekends and i am slowly loosing NOT gaining i am a very happy camper!! :D The only tweaking i am thinking about at this point is to maybe (as others here are doing) track my calories a bit; thinking i still may have more going in then i should.

TINK

DOWN 4!!!!

Weigh to go!

I'm NOT going to track my calories. I think this is how I got here in the first place. I have been taking Blue's advice about getting hungry for meals. If I'm not hungry, then I put too much on my last plate. Maybe as I get closer to my goal-which is far away, I will change my mind.

What do you think??

Hey Resting Thank you :D
You have definitely given me food for thought; I’ll wait till dinner though cuz I don’t snack  Seriously though you and blue are most likely right, and counting even as loosey goosey as it is, might just lead me back to where I came from...I always thought/heard when you got hungry between meals or woke up hungry that meant you hadn’t eaten enough when in actual fact, it was the correct amount! :o I do know i really enjoy my meals more when I do let myself get hungry, so I will work on portion control by judging my hunger not counting. Thank you resting and blue

Hi Tink

I think portion control is definitely the answer. It could be helpful also to not eat refined carbs at consecutive meals. Good wishes.

Hey Tink,

The other think I have to remember is that if I don't spend some time getting hungry and letting my own body recover from that hunger, it is never consuming itself-meaning living off the fat of the land-aka my tummy flubber.

I could probably fast for a month and live-not that I would ever even dream of such an idea, but in case I'm caught on a deserted island...........

Isn't it fun learning what we all should naturally know??

S-Day DD was very thoughtful and started my day with french vanilla coffee and a Boston creme doughnut, because she remembered it was an S-day :D Barbecued lunch and then went with a friend to Costco..and she treated me to a very over sized sundae. Eating like that just left me feeling very lazy and i had no desire for dinner. I am going have more control today :)

Hi Resting,
Had a lot going on so haven’t been posting. Thanx for missing me :-) I am glad to see so many are staying OP even with all the curves life throw's at you now and again. I have to say ya'll are my biggest inspiration!! I have for the most part stayed OP, no snacks, seconds, sweets or scale but if am I am totally honest with myself, I think I allowed 2 much virtual plating (wiggle room). So I am starting a new commitment to No S. Starting a new 21 days today, NO VIRTUAL PLATING, this gives me wiggle room that I can’t handle. I will walk home from work (4 miles) twice a week; the other 3 are already dedicated to the gym and walking after dinner with my hubby. Looking forward to rejoining the 21 day club!!

Missing from my celebration:

Post by Tink » Mon Jul 07, 2008 3:27 pm

Missing from my celebration:
I noticed that guilt was no where around. Yanno, the guilty feeling from eating "forbidden foods" because the diet starts tomorrow. I also observed shame wasn’t in attendance this year. I was ashamed of stuffing my face with all the “banned foods†so I would eat quickly and hope no one noticed. I just ate like a normal person and enjoyed every bite. :D
I didn’t feel real good about how I looked. :( I wasn’t in good shape and my shape wasn’t good. Now even though I still need to lose weight; because of No S I am making better choices with my diet, walk 4 miles twice a wk and go to the gym 3 times a week plus take a leisurely walk with hubby after dinner. Needless to say I am in better shape and my shape is getting better also  Thank you Reinhard for giving me a new way of life! :D

Og thank you, I am on day 14 of my new commitment to No S. because I had entirely to much Virtual plating going on! This is/was especially hard for me as I hate for certain foods to touch/mix ha-ha I have also noticed my w/e are really pretty mellow as far sweets/snacks, since they are not “forbidden fruit†they just don’t appeal to me as much! Got a new toy on fkwan’s recommendation and I love it, the Omron Digital Pedometer, tracks steps, aerobic steps and time, miles, and calories burned. It even works in your pocket or purse!! My walking is sure increasing thank you fkwan :D

Hey Tink,

Where did you get that pedometer? DH got me one for Christmas but it seems to always be messing up. I would love one that tracks all that stuff.

Way to go with all that GREEN!!!

BTW, thanks for all the encouragement you have sent my way!

Thanx resting :D I bought my pedometer off Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000U ... roduct_top shipping was pretty quick I must say! It’s a fun toy that has increased my walking for sure! It’s also helping to curb any thoughts of late night snacking; I was so tired last night I couldn’t even keep my eyes open

Thanx for your continued support blue! I can never resist a challenge; with the pedometer it’s always a step away!
I found myself jonesing for seconds and chocolate last night; I know its way of covering up emotions, but it is still very hard. Last night was a struggle but I made it. I am on day 17 of my new commitment, plus I am doing the July challenge; so am digging my heels in and comforting myself with thoughts of all the food I can have this w/e

Thank you resting :)
Yesterday was my 21st day of my new commitment Yippee! :D I feel so much better!! My tummy lets me know when it is time to eat, and when it’s time to stop . Weekends are pretty tame for the most part! I didn’t weigh July 1 because I felt there had been weigh to much V/P going on; I may step on the scale August 1 out curiosity or I may not. I can tell there is a change with both body and mind. I feel lighter and my clothes defiantly fit differently. I’m pretty content to continue No S and let it determine my happy/healthy weight! I call that SUCCESS :D

My name is Tink and I fell off the "No s" wagon :-

Post by Tink » Wed Oct 01, 2008 6:14 pm

My name is Tink and I fell off the "No s" wagon  Long story short, i thought i was walking my butt off in July, i was doing 4 and 5 miles every day, following vanilla "No S" no reds, BUT i made the mistake of allowing myself to have expectations. When i stepped on the scale Aug 1 and i hadn't lost weight; i lost motivation  What i lost sight of was the BIG PICTURE! I felt real good, i felt smaller, and i wasn't gaining!! I didn't completely give up, i kinda stuck with 3 a day and convinced myself i was tweaking ha! Well i have gained most of my loss back :( I missed checking in but i felt like i had failed! I am getting back on the "NO S" wagon. Today is day 1

Thank you both for the warm welcome back!! I missed you guys!!!

Hi Blue, I am very glad to be back :-), my clothes couldn't take a longer hiatus ;-) LOL

Hi Resting, I am glad to see you didn't go far, you seem to be doing great and I do love your signature!!

"No S" works, I did in fact lose weight (just not the amount I wanted) I also "lost" the guilty feeling from eating "forbidden foods" because the diet starts tomorrow. I even "lost" feeling bad about myself and how I looked. None of my losses showed up as The Number I wanted on the scale! I lost sight of the bigger picture that i was gaining a healthy attitude toward food, and feeling better both mentally and physically than I had in very long time. My clothes were even fitting better!!! I can not believe I allowed a number on the scale to take all that away, high expectations can and usually do lead to high levels of disappointment..~Tink tosses the scale in the trash~

Day 6

Post by Tink » Tue Oct 07, 2008 11:29 am

Been super busy, will try and check in more! I have been staying OP and I don't feel so bloated! Last night as hubby was going for a late night snack I said "oh I think I’ll have a bowl of my chicken soup" (home made) Then I remembered snacks are not in my vocabulary unless it's the weekend!! :) He was happy eating his snacks; I am happy cuz I enjoyed success :D

"No snacks, no sweets, no scales." I like that. Glad you're back, Tink. I too have found I am much happier staying off the scales. They are not user-friendly.
