Betty's 7-Phase Long term Plan

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Betty's 7-Phase Long term Plan

Post by Betty » Tue May 13, 2008 4:22 pm

Ive decided to eeeeeeaaase into No S. My willpower is in the toilet, and I want to stretch that muscle and get it strong before I start a full blown program and fail again.

So, I've broken No S into a bunch of little bits, and the plan is to do each for 3 weeks, folding each subsequent habit as I feel confident about the one before.

My guess is that it will take about 6 months to get to Vanilla No S, but you know, if I can stick to my guns and actually create habits I dont mind.

Phase 1) No Coffee (not really an S, but it messes with my blood sugar and makes me crazy and sleepless and gives me sugar cravings). Despite studies that show that coffee isn't bad for you, I know it's bad for ME. I love it so much, but it makes me crazy.

Phase 2) No Sugar +No Alcohol. (Alcohol isnt really an S either, but it does mess with my best intentions, gives me the instant nibbles, so it's an "S" for now, until my no snacking habits are stronger)

Phase 3) No eating after Dinner

4) Shovel glove (love it!) Monday Wednesdays Fridays

5) No snacking between breakfast and lunch on N days

6) abs and legs Tuesdays and Thursdays

7) No snacking between lunch and dinner on N Days.

8) (if necessary; I rarely take seconds) No seconds on N days

So Far, Im on phase 1, which I started a few weeks ago. In 2.5 weeks I have only had 1/2 cup of caffinated coffee. For me this is huge! After I go another full week without any caffinated beverage, I'll move on to phase 2 (No sugar+ no alcohol)

I'm curious to watch how well this works for you.

I had to cement other habits before No-S "took", that's for sure!

Good Luck!

Betty,

I also want to wish you good luck with your plan and give you some support on phase 1.

I HAD to stop drinking coffee 4 years ago, it just WRECKS me, my husband and obviously MANY others can drink to no ill effects and for the pleasure but COFFEE ABSOLUTELY WRECKS me ...in that good luck in getting any sleep any night I have any coffee, good luck in sitting still and concentrating on anything ... and of course I get truly HORRENDOUS and WICKED HEADACHES  loved loved loved loved the stuf be it does not work at all with my body ...

Cannot drink decaf ... I just do not like it, Anyway have experimented with green tea, also doesn't work for me for much the same reason.

I do get to drink my chai tea lattes on S days but if I drink too regularly they start messing with my sleeping cycle ... SO

if coffee is doing to you what it did to me, I TOTALLY support you in getting off. I am so glad I don't have to deal with the sleeplessness, grumpiness, headaches and BAD BREATH  (coffee gave me awful trash mouth  !)
