Resting On A Journey

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). Now that I have been NOT dieting for 7 weeks, I'm changing my daily check-in name from 'Me On A Diet' to 'Resting On A Journey'.

Just feels right!

We have Labradoodles. Best dogs we have ever had-they have the happy nature of the lab and they don't shed because of the poodle part. Well, they do kinda fuzz, but at least there isn't hair everywhere.

I like the new check-in name! I agree. We are not on a diet here. It's a whole new outlook, isn't it?

Thanks, Y'all,

Little hitch yesterday but still counting it as a success. One daughter fixed an amazing one dish pasta thing. Came home and had a bowl of it but at the same time another daughter wanted me to go for sushi with her. Did that too but visually plated taking the first "meal" into account.

I still call it: success

No Scaling! still thinking about weighing in the first of June. Hmmmm

Day 52 NoS with 2 red days
Day 30 with no red days
No Scale for 23 days-I guess that means I have a habit there too now!

Baby girl picked strawberries yesterday so guess what we had for dinner!

Still need to pay more attention to portion size.

Had beans and rice, pineapple, pita chips, peanuts and celery for lunch yesterday. My plate wasn't THAT overloaded but I did take a second look at it and realize that 2 people could make a fine lunch off of it. Hmmmm.

Yeah, my Rat Terrier sheds too! Our neighbors are a young couple, they are too cute, they have a pekonese( spelled that soooo wrong!), his name is Smitty, well last year for halloween Smitty was clipped to look like a lion, his dad thought that was a great idea, now they completely shaved him all over except for the mowhawk on his head, hubby and I just laughed, no telling what he will have next time. :lol:

This all feeds so well into NoS. It was an interesting confirmation to what I'm doing here. I'm just glad there is a "here" to be in.

Yesterday was a weird SUCCESS
Was so busy at work that I never had time to eat lunch. Ate beans and rice and fruit for dinner.

Blueskies on another post spoke about being hungry for each meal. That really struck me. If I'm not being hungry then I'm just rolling all those previous snacks up into my meals! Food for thought for me.

Back at the beach. Definitely get my walking in. I love being here! Friends are heading down tonight and I GET TO MISS WORK!!-thank you, dh.

Added a new Habitcal today=getting up and down off the floor!

Did my scale peek on Friday and was down 5 pounds! I will peek again next month, maybe!

Saturday was a smart S day. Sunday was a stupid S day.

Good for you for having a smart S day. I had 2 stupid ones this weekend. We went to a graduation party friday night, ate too much, the others were drinking beer, but passed on that, hubby and I really don't drink much if at all, then Saturday went to a Priest Ordination and then the reception after and then Sunday went to his first Mass and went to that reception after, ate waaaay to much. But thank God for Mondays and second chances. Have a blessed day.

Happy 27th anniversary to me and dh.

Yesterday was crazy busy and I just have so much I need to get done. Just not worrying about how much and when I'm going to shovel more food in my mouth gives me more time. I love that!

Down early for breakfast and there was a box of Dunkin Doughnuts on the kitchen table! What a joy to not automatically dip into them.

Woooo f, 28!!!

We saw KungFoo Panda, or whatever it is called. My dh laughed so hard that HE was funny. The choice was Maid of Honor-definitely a chick flick, or the cartoon movie. I'm glad we went with the cartoon. I wish I had known it was Dustin Hoffman playing the kungfoo master before watching the film.

Since we could only afford one drink (because I'm NOT paying an extra $5 for another) we had real coke with our popcorn. So it was definitely an S day.

I guess 27 years is some kind of success in itself. How did I get this old?

both Saturday and Sundays were definitely S days, but they were more moderated.

Went to lunch at Golden Corral yesterday. Memo to self, "Yuk!"

Last night driving around with baby girl and went to Krispee Kreme. The 'Hot Doughnut" sign was on so we bought a dozen. Actually we had to wait a minute because they were just coming out. Amazingly, at least to me, was that 1-1/2 was enough for me. I found myself thinking about the taste and pondering if it was worth it instead of just stuffing them in my mouth. The answer was, "Yes!", but the "enough" came quickly.

Today will be a success.

Getting to the quote you left on my daily check in-I remember reading about the Weigh Down system years ago, I was in a Lightweigh group wich was pretty much the same thing, eat when hungry and stop when full, eat only a clenched size portion of food. My problem was not knowing when I was hungry, it was knowing when I was full, what is meant by full? How full? Often by the time I realized I was full, I was too full! This program makes so much more sense. I KNOW I am hungry when I am eating and I don't have to guess as to the level of fullness. Have a blessed day.

Yes, it is amazing how this has changed my life. Now, as I face tough situations, I'm thankful that it is to my faith and friends and family that I turn instead of to food.

Saturday morning and I started it with 3 little chocolate almond candies. I got them yesterday with the plan that they would start my day. Now after my big walk with the poochies, I'll have my healthy breakfast and head for work.

Tuesday,

Continued surprises about the S days. Twice this past weekend I indulged in ice cream. Neither times did I even want to finish it. How funny that things I once craved have lost appeal. That makes me think that there must have been some sort of addiction involved-or loop or something. Any way, it is a joy to stand on the outside and look at this and say, "No thanks, I'm don't want and." and truly mean it.

One more week until my 3rd set of 21 days.

I had a similar experience to your ice cream experience with "Von's Cake" I used to binge on these single but HUGE slices of white or chocolate birthday cake, german chocolate cake and/or carrot cake. Before No S I could eat three of them YIKES then on NO S in the begining I would have just one ... I don't know when the last time I had one was but I don't seem to want them anymore, I really thought I would NEVER get over them ....

it is a very funny but NICE phenomena!

Shredded the squash and zucchini and made a quiche with leftover shredded potato as the crust. Yum! Added the cantaloupe for a pretty and delicious touch. Wish I knew how to take pictures and post them. Oh, to be a techie.

Really thinking about the emotional side of eating. Now that I don't stuff my face any more, I have time to think about why I did.

Another Success day although it was a pretty tough call last night when I truly wanted to eat.

that is so great! I like to think that when we stick to NO S in the more difficult moments we are digging our HABIT groove just a little bit deeper :D

I understand the difficult moments too resting! Last night, for example when b-friend & his kids & I went to Baskin Robbins for ice cream. I didn't have any! Not even one bite when I was offered it! That was hard!!

Ya'll are great at encouraging and I'm grateful.

Yesterday became an 'S' day when we decided to go to a movie. :lol:

Popcorn became my 4th meal of the day plus some of dh's coke.

Truly love the flexible boundaries here-knowing where to draw the line and where to wiggle.

Think I'll pick up a green tea frappachino (sp?) on my way to work this morning. Yum!

What's good about the popcorn is that is not a very heavy food and unless you get it drowned in butter, it's not that bad as a meal/snack. Glad you and hubby got to have a "date". Have a blessed day.

Oh, said on Blue's post about just telling dh I'm doing this, now that it has been 3 months of NoS. He was encouraging. He's seen me go through so much diet drama that this may be just sensible enough to work.

Today marks my 3rd set of 21 days without a red.

Also, did another scale peek and am down 7.5.

2 luscious salads yesterday with lettuce, tomato, squash, hot peppers, and cucumber out of the garden.

I too am seeing success with this plan in both those areas.

Here I am at the end of the day and about to snap like a green bean. I would love to fall face first into a tub of chocolate coved ice cream or some such. I'm grateful to NoS, to the pull of the 21 club, to having boxes to check green, to all of you that cheer us on, and, of course, to Reinhard.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way. The GOOD news is that I rarely feel that way any more.

I have had WAY too many S days this week and now, here is the weekend. There have been various very special events going on and too much virtual plating. I like Tink's idea of a habitcal of NoVirtualPlating.

The good news is that with this freedom comes the choice to do right. Even on my S days (except for the 4th yesterday) I had no sweets and no snacks.

One of the things I am finding I like best about the whole No S plan is the Habitcal. I love using such a simple but effective tool to build new habits. I am building No S, No Scale and MwP (exercise) Habits, that are really starting to become ingrained and almost 2nd nature after 39 days.

You can set up a Habitcal for anything you want to track and/or change.
Creating and sustaining the No S habits are the only thing that will take me in the direction I want to go!

I am entering a slew of NWS days and so that will be interesting, it is also interesting how too many can become overwhelming, who would have thought such a thing,

sometimes i want to dive face down into a cake :D that particular desire is less frequent these days, but I imagine it will hang around for a while.
it is ok, just reminds me how different things are when I don't :D

Well, I have to take my first RED day in the last 70. I soothed stress with ice cream last night. I know I set myself up by barely eating until 7 at night, not because I was trying not to eat, I just didn't have time. Need to figure out some easy grab and go meals for such times.

Back to vanilla nos.

I try and cook in big batches and freeze preset portions. If I make a regular meal that would be good for leftovers, I’ll try to make extra and pack it up--whether in the fridge or the freezer! Smoothies make great quick meals; throw ¾ cup oatmeal (nuked), ¾ cup milk, ¾ mixed frozen berries, 2 tsp whey powder, ice, in blender. Quick, filling and yummy! Hope that helps :-)

Hey Y'all,

Thanks for the positive words.

Life is sometimes just TOO full of adventures. I'm frustrated with not losing weight faster. On the other hand, I love my new relationship with food. It doesn't control me any more, I control it.........makes sense, especially sense I'm the one with the brain and it is just food.

Came home after lunching out with dear friends (after walking at 6 a.m. and then working 7-10 putting in inventory in my sweaty walking clothes) and I was starving. I'm thinking, "How can a woman my size be starving????"

My thoughts returned to my new set of green habitcal markers and I drank a big old glass of water and got myself out of the kitchen.

Resting you have voiced my thoughts so well, I love everything about No s cept how slow it goes. I keep reminding myself once the weight does come off it’s forever; it won’t be back !!! :D

Have had a yellow and a red day since last post. The yellow was from being invited out to friend's home-3 couples, each already had a plated chocolate chip cookie. However, I could have skipped the icecream. :lol:

Last night was a neighborhood covered dish, and honestly, I had plated some desserts before I realized it. I could have just handed it off, but I'd already gotten it. In that sense the day became a failure.

However, what I did notice was that I got NO chocolate (amazing for me), and that the items on my plate that turned out not to be that tasty, I just left. In the past I would have felt compelled to clean my plate regardless. Particularly nasty was a lemon square. How someone can ruin those is beyond comprehension. My serving ended up in the trash.

So, here I am, pondering my NoS journey along. I'm a bit stuck, but not gaining. A bit discouraged but NEVER going back to S.A.D. (substance accounting diets)

Yesterday was a

FAILURE.

Last night, after an amazingly difficult day, I got into the York patties sitting in the fridge since this past weekend.

Funny thing is, this would have been my normal day before NoS, but I would have also added some ice cream and maybe popcorn, and whatever else I could graze on. :lol:

So, today starts the new 21 goal.

Today is Day 1.

Here is day 8 and I'm on my way again. In the midst of so much going on in my life, NoS is a solid comfort. It gives me one less thing to think about. Maybe I should say 100 less things since I don't consider food all day long except when it IS time to eat.

After 2 red days I woke up teetering on whether I'm a failure or not.

What do I know?

I do know that I can eat almost anything-as long as I stay on NoS and either not gain at all or lose slowly since that is what the past 4 months have proved to me.

I do need to limit my s-days like in the idiot lecture. Seems like coming off s-days has been more difficult these last 2 weeks.

I need to give myself grace for the journey.

I AM NOT A FAILURE!

Resting-who is talking to herself here and has been quite encouraging.

Loved 2 comments I saw on the general discussion board. My favorite was CCC's about realizing that we just have so many bad habits to overcome and it just takes time. The other was about the car backing into a post.

Dealing with extreme and unexpected illness in a family member. Was thinking of making all these days red and then decided to go yellow instead. Dealing with fear, grief, exhaustion, all the well wishes and prayers, calls, doctor's visits, drugs, reactions, wondering when and if and how this will end, and still going on with work and life. I've come to realize that sometimes a bowl of icecream or mainlining chocolate may be more beneficial than banging my head against the wall. So...........my choice is to make these days special.

NoS is still here. My green days are calling me.

I'll be back.

not sure exactly what you are going through, a couple of years ago my dearest grandma passed away at 94, she was on hospice care, I was able to go and be with her last few weeks, some of the most bitter/sweet moments in my life, but would not have missed it for the world!

going through things like this with the ones we love are truly the best and worst times of our lives, hope all is well in your heart,

Sounds like you're dealing with a lot... and doing your best. I like your "encouraging" talking to yourself, but that's because I do much the same thing. :)

Hang in there.

It is a gift when a habit is strong under stress. That shows how well you've built it. But if it doesn't hold, then you just get to build it again. (And usually there's a "foundation" remaining - as you've noticed already. When your current "mess ups" are better than old "normal," that's progress!)

The only failure is ceasing to try. You don't fit that description AT ALL. But you knew that, right?

Be gentle with yourself, and keep that encouraging voice going.

You had a SUCCESS day yesterday!!! I'm writing to say Congratulations! Getting back to green days in the midst of stress is a huge accomplishment.

I'm new to this (almost 4 weeks now) so I'm not pretending to have answers...I'm absolutely NOT full of wisdom....but I do know that you're doing far better than you give yourself credit for. The bottom line is that you are healthier today than you were months ago....and that's a victory!

Thanks for the sweet and encouraging words. This is a wonderful place to bounce feelings and thoughts off the boards and know that wisdom will come back to you.

My weekend almost felt like my first weekend on NoS. Well, that's not really true. There were sweets that I nibbled and chose not to eat because they just weren't good enough. I never considered that before. I just ate to eat.

Glad to be back to Monday!

It is SO good to be back on plan. Now that I'm going/have gone through one of life's major curve balls and seen how NoS is such an easy, stabilizing factor, I'm more sold than ever.
