3aday's Getting Through The Holiday Season Check In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

3aday's Getting Through The Holiday Season Check In

Post by 3aday » Wed Nov 26, 2008 10:29 pm

Well, it's that time of year again.
Even though I am a No S devotee and pretty much stick to habit now, this time of year brings all types of temptation for me and the irresistible urge to be a slacker in my exercise routine.
HABIT is soooo powerful but I know how easy it to falter when everyone is offerring delicious goodies at work and holiday gatherings between Thanksgiving and New Years Day.
I want to keep myself motivated and accountable through this holiday season.
In fact, I rejoined Leslie Sansone's Walk Club a few days ago so I can participate in the Walk Challenges and follow her monthly walk schedule.
December's walk schedule is GREAT. It's full of one milers and short workouts that are quick enough to stay consistent until January 1st.
I plan on doing their Annual Black Friday/Post Thanksgiving Boot Camp from Friday through Sunday to kick off the December challenge.
I also plan on listing my meals for accountability.
The medication I am currently on has slightly elevated my blood pressure so I need to make sure that I follow No S and walk FAITHFULLY this holiday season.
Last year was pretty good for me but I did fall off the wagon a couple of times.
I want this season to be my season of Mental and Physical Olympics and true Thanksgiving, not just on one day.

Well today starts the Annual Black Friday/Post Thanksgiving Leslie Sansone Boot Camp from today through Sunday to kick off the December challenge of one or two miles a day for the month of December!

There are 3 boot camps to choose from:

Full Boot Camp:-
24 miles over the 3 days, however you want to accumulate the miles.
45 Push-ups for the 3 days or 15/day. (Your choice of style eg: wall push-up, off a stability ball, the standard, girl-style)
150 Crunches for the 3 days or 50/day (You can substitute another ab exercise if you prefer)

Mini Boot Camp:-
18 miles over the 3 days
30 Push-ups for the 3 days or 10/day
105 Crunches for the 3 days or 35/day

Micro Boot Camp:-
12 Miles over the 3 days
18 Push-ups for the 3 days or 6/day
75 Crunches for the 3 days or 25/day

I am going for the Micro Boot Camp without the push-ups and crunches. That will be 4 miles on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!

Today was quite a fruit filled day. All I could think about was fruit, and fruit, and more fruit. Too bad I'm not like that all the time!
Dinner was yum. I got it from our health food store's deli. I wish I could cook healthy and have it taste really good like they do. It always has so much flavor.

I count this day as a success because it was a planned NWS day for me. I went to a concert downtown with my girlfriend. I normally don't go out without my husband but last night was a girls night for me and my friend. It's been years since we went out just the two of us. It was good, clean fun at the concert except for the stop at McDonald's drive through on our way home.
I could have not eaten at Micky D's put I knew in advance we would probably go and grab a quick bite. Back in the day, we probably would have gone to a bar. Instead we just ate and talked. It was great and totally worth it!

On another note, this morning I went back to my doctor's for a followup appointment.
My husband was with me.
Anyway, the doctor said "I am happy with your weight. It's still going down. In fact, it's gone down 5 pounds since your last appointment!"
(Which was two weeks ago).
I was so excited.
Now, I never put any emphasis on my weight. And, I want to add, I never lose 5 pounds even in a month. (My loss has been slow and steady).
But anyway, it was enough to make me super excited.
I still have to take my medication for a health issue I am going through and my high blood pressure still gets elevated from the medication, but my doctor said it was not related to my weight or diet and she knows I exercise.
I told her that I have been following No S and explained the diet to her.
She thought it was just great.
She has been my doctor for a couple of years now so she knows me very well.
She said she was happy with the changes I have made.
Also, her reaction to the No S diet absolutely made my day. She seemed very impressed.
I go back to see her the first week of January and when I left she told me to keep doing what I am doing!

Deb!
Thanks so much!
I was just happy my doctor was happy with me!
I am going to see her in a month for another follow-up so maybe I will bring her a copy of the No S diet book.

Sorry about your throat. I like Ricola menthol cough drops.
Get some rest and don't worry about walking when you aren't well.

Well, I haven't exercised in 4 days.
I plan on starting again tomorrow.
I can look back honestly this past week and know that my body was sick.

The Walk Club is starting the 12 Days Jingle Bell Walk Challenge beginning tomorrow and I am going to do it no matter what! (Especially now that I am feeling better!) But, I am just relaxing tonight. It was a tough, long week at work and I just need to wind down from the week.

The 3 Daily Tasks for the challenge:
* Get in a 1 mile Walk each day. It can be the calender walk for that day, pedometer walk etc.
* Eat a Good Breakfast everyday and pack a healthy snack for later in the day. (Which I won't be doing.)
* Get to bed on time!! Maybe even a few minutes early a couple of nights? Get some good rest to reduce the stress.

For each day there are little tips and tricks or bonus exercises thrown in.

I can do this...

Hi Everyone!
Well, my eyes popped open at 4:30am today!
I couldn't go back to sleep...I think while I was sick I rested *too much* and my body said ENOUGH!
Anyway, I am glad to report that I did the 5 Mile Super Fat Burning Workout this morning and I feel GREAT! (I didn't do any boosted walking, I kept everything low impact for the full hour.)
My body really needed to get moving again. :D
I plan on doing the Jingle Bell Walk Challenge so I will get in another mile later.
Happy Saturday everyone!
Becky

Yippee!
I just did the 2 Mile Walk Away Your Hips And Thighs! (Without the leg workout at the end.)
I was devastated that I was sick all last week so I did not work out at all until today. I think I did work out Sunday and Monday though but I am not going to count them because it feels like I haven't worked out in years!
So today, I did 7 miles. (I did the 5 mile Fat Burning Walk this morning).
Between those two walks today, at least that brings me to an average of one mile a day.
After making it through today, the 12 day Jingle Bell Walk Challenge will be a breeze.
I will be drinking an all fruit smoothie for dinner tonight (just fruit mixed with ice) so I will get a concentrated serving of fruits!

Well, now that I have done my version of catch up and met my minimum goal of 7 miles during the week(even though it was all in one day)..... so to celebrate I am going to do a 1 mile walk now to kick off the first day of the Challenge!
Thank goodness the next 12 days will be just the one milers and a couple of extras!

I know it seems crazy that I am doing so much in one day but I have done it before for kick starts and sometimes my body begs to be challenged. Having been so sedentary for a week, today I am grateful to move my body.

Well, I have a confession to make.
I never got around to doing the extra 1 mile walk today.
My husband came home early today from work.
Then my friend, my husband and I decided to go ice skating at the spur of the moment.
My husband has never been and it's been over 20 years since my friend and I went.
Well, we got there and it was DJ Smooth Teen Night!
So needless to say, we didn't end up ice skating!

So 7 miles for me today. Not too shabby.
The 5 mile Super Fat Burning and the 2 mile Walk Away Your Hips and Thighs.

Wow!!! You did great Becky!!! :D
I'm going to check the library for those Leslie Sansone vids and see if I like em, if they have them..
I did some snow shoveling today and yesterday, but I'm sure it would be nice to have an indoor walking thing to do as well for when it's like this outside..
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and keep it up!!

Debs,

I am a big fan of Leslie Sansone Walking videos, too. Indoor walking is the one exercise I keep coming back to time after time. I have been walking with Leslie for years.

I like her because you can just do one mile and get the blood flowing.
Plus, I don't have to go to the gym.
Also, I don't boost my walks with the ones that have jogging in them as a courtesy to my neighbors below me!
She is fab.
She is easy, straight forward, and you get a good workout.
My new favorite is the 5 mile Fat Burning Workout that came on 12/02 this year. I love the music on that one and noticed that today it is on sale for $6.82 with free shipping from deepdiscounts.com

Happy New Year Everyone!
Well, I made it through the holiday season!
My S days from December 24th through January 1st and my NWS days were not bad at all.
In fact, I actually stuck to 3 meals this past week and only tacked dessert at the end of one meal a day this week. I didn't even have the snack!
On my S days, I was VANILLA No S Compliant.
I even walked a mile a day most of the month. (Well, except for when I was sick).
I have no resolutions for this year except to tighten up some habits and walk more.
I stuck through the holidays and I am proud of myself and really my only hope through December was maintenance and I accomplished that.
I love Vanilla No S. It's my life.
Finding this program was the best thing that ever happened to me because I found a lifestyle that works for me and is not a diet. I love what you do for maintenance, you also do for weight loss so nothing ever changes.
Anyway, this is my the last of my "Getting Through The Holidays" posts because well, I made it through the holidays!
I'll be back from time to time. Maybe I will have another daily check in again but for now....I need a break from posting, food journaling and want to focus on taking care of my mom (I'll be leaving for NJ in a couple of weeks to help her recover from her surgeries) and I want to focus more on my walking since this year I want to start participating in 5K walk/jogs as a hobby....so I have some training to do!
Good Wishes, Blessings, and prayers to all of you!
Love, Becky
