Barb's Check In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Barb's Check In

Post by Barb » Fri Jan 09, 2009 1:45 pm

Good morning,

Day 1 (Thursday) went great.

Breakfast: 1/2 Sandwich (I am not much of a traditional breakfast food person)

Lunch: 1/2 Sandwich with Soup

Dinner (out): 1 trip salad bar with cup of soup, 1 slice of bread

I hope it was okay to have salad AND soup, but I felt great after I ate -- not stuffed....which I usually feel.

I really enjoy reading everyone's post -- so inspiring!

I am a little nervous about overeating on Sat. & Sunday, but I am going to try to "stay awake" and pay attention to the treats I might want to eat. I am not a big snacker...my main goal is to overcome overeating. I eat way to much. I read someone's post that they can eat like a construction worker...hey that is me! Sweets are also a problem. I love the idea of having a controlled sweet on "S" days. I am going to make Friday's my official weigh in day.

I hope everyone has a great Friday and even better weekend. I will report in on Monday!
