Gummi's Daily Check In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Gummi's Daily Check In

Post by gummi » Tue Jan 25, 2011 11:18 pm

SUCCESS!

Today is my first day! I'm really glad I found the No S Diet. I've been toying with the idea of cutting out sweets during the week and only having them on the weekend, but I like that this takes it two steps further and has a support network. :D

SUCCESS!

My boyfriend took me out for dinner, but I only ate enough food to fill a "virtual" plate. I took my left overs home for lunch tomorrow! (I almost never do this.) I had trouble with snack cravings throughout the day, but I got through it by drinking water whenever I craved a snack.

YAY!

(Thanks, Kevin! I'm glad to be here. :))

SUCCESS!

I was REALLY hungry today. I used a small plate at dinner, but it was as full as I could make it. I ate very little at lunchtime and breakfast. I need to balance out my meals better so I'm not so hungry towards dinnertime!

P.S. I eyed the sweets at the bakery today. Usually I want them SO BADLY and often give in. But today I walked by and thought to myself, "I can have one on Saturday!" And felt really happy and excited! I love how positive this diet is. It's only been a few days, but already I can tell my thoughts about food are changing. Normally, I would buy the sweet (almost daily) and lament over how I "shouldn't" have it and how "awful" I am for eating it. I would eat it and enjoy it until the guilt set in. Now I CAN have the sweet!! Just not until Saturday. And I'm actually okay with this because now I can eat my sweet and not feel bad about it. :D

Welcome Gummi!

I'm working toward better eating habits with my sweets as well. That is quite the accomplishment - that you walked by sweets and was okay with it!

You're doing great on the diet! Keep up the good work! :)

SUCCESS!

I DID IT!!!

I got through the day no problem. Then I went to a local concert with a friend this evening. There was LOTS of snacks and a huge chocolate cake and cookies and cupcakes. I took a piece of cake and a cookie, wrapped them up, and they are now sitting in my fridge for tomorrow. (My first S-Day!)

I seriously have no idea how I did this. I didn't eat anything even though it was in my face and everyone around me was eating it. I'm so proud of myself! Before starting this diet, I would have eaten everything in sight!

(gk & RJRO, Thanks for the warm welcome!!!)

Yesterday: S-DAY

You know how the No S guidelines say "Don't be an idiot."? Yeeeah.... Yesterday was my first S-Day on this program and I ate myself sick. I was fine all day up until I went to a party and I just lost it... Bleeeh! I will try and do better today!

S-DAY

I did better than yesterday, but my indulgences still seemed a bit too much to me. I'm going to try harder next weekend to enjoy my S-Day treats with more moderation.

I'm actually kind of relieved that tomorrow is a No S-Day!

I wouldn't try too hard on an S day. I mean, it's a really good idea to ask yourself "do I really want this" and then "am I hungry, and is this worth the calories", then say "I'll have it in five minutes", you know, be a little selective. But, if you want it... eat it.

Sooner than not you'll settle in to a sustainable habit. I do seconds or desert, and one snack a day. That's probably where you will end up, and it will be a good thing.

SUCCESS!

I weighed myself today... 3 pounds lost?! I have no idea how that happened! I've only been doing this for a week! I'm not complaining, I'm just surprised! Especially after my crazy eating on my S-Days...

My weight has been steadily creeping higher and higher over the past few months. When I hit 169 (almost 170!), I said "Enough is enough!" and went online to find a diet that sounded easy. I'm so glad I found this one! I'm sure this kind of loss won't be typical, but it feels good to be off to a good start.

Kevin, Thanks for the tips. I just felt like I was eating a weeks worth of snacks and sweets which kind of defeats the purpose. I hope I find a balance over time. :)

Phew! Today was hard. I'm definitely hungrier this week than I was last week. Not having a snack mid-afternoon is tough!

SLIP

 I had another bad day. This whole week has been tough for me on many levels. I didn't slip up too badly, but I didn't do well enough to call this a successful day. It's really hard not to turn to food when I'm upset.

If things have been that hard, then go easy on yourself. Just move on. How much would you have comforted yourself with food a few weeks ago? A lot worse, probably, right?

Fall down. Get up. Move on.

Thanks, Kevin. :) You're right.

I ate dinner twice and some cinnamon candies I brought home from work. So it wasn't so bad! I could have eaten the piece of rum cake and/or the chocolate bar I've been saving for the weekend, but I didn't. Two weeks ago, I would have. So even though I slipped a bit, I'm still moving in the right direction.

Tuesday: SUCCESS!

Also weighed myself today. Still at 166!

(FYI, I am not counting the number after the decimal on my scale. It just discourages me. My weigh-ins won't be 100% accurate, but I prefer to do it this way.)

Friday: S-DAY

I'm counting today as an S-Day. My favorite local Thai restaurant is closing its doors and my friends and I went for one last huzzah! The only S I had was a thai iced tea and a few bites of my boyfriend's dessert. I kept my meal to one plate and took the left overs home to enjoy later. It was a nice evening and I didn't feel bad about it at all. :)
