SkySurfer's No S Journey

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

SkySurfer's No S Journey

Post by SkySurfer » Wed Feb 20, 2013 9:40 am

Hi!
I'm SkySurfer. i've done NoS in the past with much success, so lord only knows why I went back to other methods of food management.
This is my Day 1, and I'm starting bang in the middle of the week on a wednesday.
I need to get this first day right and the subsequent days will be much easier.
Wish me luck! I want to hopefully lose 20 pounds by July (i'm going on holiday!)

it's funny how we do this for a while and then we go back to other systems. same story here. tried it for a short while last summer but wasn't seeing the 'Rapid weight loss' i was hoping for. little did i know, if i had just given it a chance longer i would have felt so much more freedom! anyway, now i'm back on it and i really hope to get to the end of the week to get my 21 day period down. having some challenges this week but i feel like i can do this! so can you! welcome back

Remotivating myself after a string of non-compliance.

SAT-2nd March: S Day
Breakfast: Toast, bacon and eggs and yoghurt
Lunch: Chips and Salad and a few bites of ice cream
Dinner: Tomato and cheese pasta bake with yummy triple chocolate cookies. I haven't enjoyed cookies, guilt free in a long time, and I don't want to go back to food insanity.

SUN- 3rd March: S Day

Breakfast: toast with jam and hot chocolate
Lunch: Mum came over and made coconut curry with rice ! I made a nice salad with it and we went for a walk.
Dinner: had loads of belvita snack packs so wasn't hungry for a meal. LOADS of coffee trying to stay awake writing these personal statements for my intercalated BSc.
Overall quite moderate (in my terms anyway!) and I feel satisfied and ready to start my N-days.

TUE- 5th March: SUCCESS
B: 2 slices of toast with jam, banana, yoghurt, tea
L: Chicken Salad sandwich, fruit cocktail, diet coke
D: Beanie Burger and chips, french martini

Overall a very enjoyable day. I definitely savoured each meal, especially given how long I had to wait between lunch and dinner (10 hours!) haha

Here's to more successful days to come :)

WED- 6th March: NON-SUCCESS
B: Weetabix with semi-skimmed milk, banana, tea

L: Salad (olives, croutons, tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, eggs, hummus) and GoAhead bar

Tough times between lunch and dinner* (see asterisked post a couple of posts below)

D: Coconut Cream Curry with many pittas! and crisps--> over-ate, but at least I kept it to a meal and one very overloaded plate!

Went overboard on bread and ice-cream. Oh well I will take today as a loss and soldier on tomorrow.

*At this moment having a tough time resisting snacks/sweets, and there is a pack of Haribos staring at me....so I thought I would log on, verbalise how I'm feeling right now and thinks this through.
I'm aware that I have no physical hunger, but just an emotional impulse to eat. Thinking it through, I know that I can resist by thinking about the root of my desire to eat..is it true or fake hunger. Right now it's fake.

I know I can carry on resisting and building up my willpower like a muscle. I don't need a snack because right now my body doesn't need food. I can wait until dinner which is a mere 3 hours away.

Phew, it definitely helped to write this out. Now I can just go and make myself some tea instead of having the pack of sweets I was going to scoff. No need to ruin my streak of success.

Way to go! That is exactly how you do it. Acknowledge that the hunger isn't real and choose not to satisfy it.

THUR- 7th March: SUCCESS
Today I'm thinking I need to have lunch a bit later to last through to dinner. That's the pattern I've noticed on successful days. Yesterday was a non-success (can you tell I don't like the word failure hehe) but at least I can examine why.
OK, let's do this!

B: Half a mango, yogurt, tea
L: Pasta salad (pasta,olives,peppers,egg,hummus) and a banana
D: Stir Fry (fresh egg noodles, mangetout, pak choi, chilli, garlic, chicken, brocolli, black bean sauce) , tea

YUM!

FRI-8th March: SUCCESS
B: 3 slices of toast and yoghurt, mid-morning coffee
L: Big ol' Pizza with olives, blended apple and carrot juice
D: 2 Slices of bread with apricot cheese, vegetable soup.

A LOT of wine before going to the uni club with mates...hey it's Friday right? :P
Had a lot of fun dancing my butt off..got a few digits out of it too ;)

What has amazed me this week is how quickly the weekdays have rushed by. And how much less painful than a usual week agonising over food, this week has been. One binge this working week definitely beats my usual everyday perma-feast!

SAT- 9th March: S-DAY
Nursing a bit of a hangover ( ) and had some early morning impromptu Mcdonalds.
Souffle, chocolate fingers, garlic bread, pack of belvita biscuits in the evening.

Sun-10th March: S-DAY
Definitely overdid it yesterday..look forward to N-days this week.
On another note, it's mother's Day and my little sister made a beautiful lemon cake complete with lemon curd and madagascan vanilla cream. Delish!

So after a stint with calorie counting and going slightly insane, I am back to what works. I have been back at it for the past month and am now around 143lbs. I've stopped weighing so often so I don't know the exact number.
I'm working on making my S-days more sane. Like a treat or two per day.
Here goes!

THURS- 19th September
Here's what I had today

B: plantain and beans , bunch of grapes, herbal tea
L: Salad, plantain chips, ham and cheese bagel, herbal tea
D:

Drinks: Many cups of Chai

Thanks!
I have to say...I've been REALLY struggling lately.
I do so well at breakfast and lunch, then BLOW it at dinner.
Plus I'm starting to get certain disordered eating tendencies that I'm scared of.
I'm going to soldier on tomorrow and do the best I can. Every day is a fresh start.
Please wish me luck.
